ZTE has put a new portable 5G hotspot up for pre-order in China. The M3 Pro 5G is priced at 599 yuan (~$90) and is scheduled to go on regular sale on September 24th. It is a straightforward mobile networking device aimed at people who need a dedicated internet connection while traveling or working away from home.

Inside, the M3 Pro 5G runs on an unnamed octa-core processor built on a 6nm process. It supports both Standalone (SA) and Non-Standalone (NSA) 5G networks, alongside older 4G and 3G networks for fallback if 5G isn’t available in a specific area.
ZTE has included a nine-antenna array to help maintain a steady signal, and the device supports 4×4 MIMO on a few specific 5G bands (n1, n3, n41, and n78) to handle multiple data streams. The company says the hotspot can hit download speeds of up to 500Mbps, though that number comes from laboratory testing and will likely vary in everyday use depending on carrier reception.
For local connections, the hotspot uses WiFi 6 and supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. You can connect up to 16 devices to it at the same time. If you have a compatible Android phone, there is an NFC tag built in that lets you tap the device to connect without typing in a password.
ZTE says that the 2.4GHz band is faster than its previous models and claims the wireless signal can reach up to 220 meters, though that requires an open space with no walls or signal interference.
The device is powered by a 5,000mAh battery. ZTE estimates this will provide about 14.5 hours of battery life during normal use. Physically, it is fairly standard for a mobile hotspot, measuring 149 x 70 x 12.5mm.
It also supports multiple 5G SIM cards on certain versions, which lets you manually switch to a different carrier if your current network drops out or has poor coverage.
You manage the hotspot using the ZTE Smart Life app, which includes standard settings like a firewall, data tracking, device blacklisting, and a guest network. ZTE is also planning a software update for next month, in October 2026, which will add a high-speed rail mode to help the device stay connected while moving between cell towers on trains, along with a gaming acceleration plugin for China Mobile users.
