Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max in China on September 23 with 7,000mAh and 8,500mAh batteries, but you shouldn’t count on those capacities if you’re buying outside China. Tipster Kacper Skrzypek found battery entries for the international models in HyperOS code, and both are smaller than their China counterparts.
What the leak shows
According to Skrzypek, the global Xiaomi 18 Pro (model number 2609BPN61G) has a 6,000mAh battery. That’s 1,000mAh less than the China version, or a cut of about 14%. The global Xiaomi 18 Pro Max (2611FPNFAG) is listed at 7,050mAh, down from 8,500mAh in China. That’s a 1,450mAh drop, or roughly 17%, so the bigger phone takes the bigger hit.
Even so, the global Xiaomi 18 Pro Max ends up with a slightly larger battery than the China-market Xiaomi 18 Pro. Charging speeds reportedly stay close to the China models, at a maximum of 90/100W. There are no global figures yet for wireless or reverse charging, which the China versions support at 50W and 27W.
Xiaomi did the same with last year’s lineup. The China Xiaomi 17 has a 7,000mAh battery, while the global version launched in February with 6,330mAh, about 10% less. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra followed the same pattern, going from 6,800mAh in China to 6,000mAh globally.
Xiaomi hasn’t given a reason for the cuts on the 18 Pro series. The explanation you’ll see most often is international transport rules for lithium-ion batteries, especially in Europe, which cap the energy a single cell can carry. Brands can work around that with dual-cell designs, but those add thickness, weight, and engineering complexity. This earlier explainer covers the reasoning in more detail.
What’s still unconfirmed
Xiaomi has said a global launch is coming this year, but it hasn’t shared a date, prices, or a list of markets. The battery figures come from code strings, not from Xiaomi, so they could still change before the phones ship.
