While Xiaomi offers a rear-facing display on its premium Xiaomi 18 Pro series, Honor is adopting a different strategy by offering rear displays on more affordable models like the Honor Play 20A, which debuted in August in China. Now, it has unveiled the Honor X5ds with a rear display in South Africa. It is also being said that the Honor 700 series, debuting probably in November this year, will also have a rear display. Until then, here’s a look at the specifications, features, and price of the X5ds.
Honor X5ds specifications and features

The rear display is the Honor X5ds’ biggest talking point. The 2.01-inch secondary LCD panel has a 240 x 296 resolution and enables features such as one-tap selfies using the rear camera. Users can also view call alerts and control media playback from the smaller screen. The main display is a 6.78-inch LCD panel with a 720 x 1576 resolution, up to 120Hz refresh rate, and 600 nits of typical brightness.
Photography is handled by a 50-megapixel rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture, 4x digital zoom, and a single LED flash. The rear camera can record video at up to 1080p, while the 5-megapixel front-facing camera also supports 1080p video recording.

The Honor X5ds uses the Unisoc T610 chipset with two Cortex-A75 cores and six Cortex-A55 cores, all clocked at up to 1.8GHz. It comes with 4GB of RAM, supplemented by 4GB of virtual memory, and 64GB of internal storage. A dedicated three-card slot allows storage expansion by up to 1TB.
The phone packs a 6,000mAh battery with support for 15W wired charging. It runs Android 16 (Go edition) and features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. Connectivity includes 4G LTE, dual nano-SIM support, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, a USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The device measures 168.3 x 78.5 x 8.72mm and weighs approximately 214g, while an IP52 rating provides basic protection against dust and water splashes.
Honor X5ds price and availability

The Honor X5ds will be available in shades like Forest Green and Midnight Black in South Africa. The 4GB+64GB model is priced at ZAR 2,499 (~$150), but there’s no information available about its wider launch. The X5ds is a decent entry-level offering at present, but it would have been better if it carried simpler branding.
