OnePlus launched the OnePlus 16 in China earlier this week, and it looks like a gem of a phone with an 185 Hz OLED display, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip, a 9,000mAh battery with 100W charging and 200-megapixel triple cameras. With the brand having pulled out of the US and Europe, those markets are unlikely to get it, and there have been doubts that it could skip other regions, including India. However, a new detail suggests that a global launch of the OnePlus 16 cannot be completely ruled out.

Tipster Abhishek Yadav says OnePlus is testing global and Indian software for the OnePlus 16 under three model numbers: CPH2901, CPH2903, and CPH2905. He notes that a launch outside China is not confirmed yet, so the work could simply be groundwork for now.

He also found PYP110 and CPH2887 on OnePlus’s high-refresh-rate gaming list. PYP110 runs games at 185Hz and is most likely the OnePlus 16R, which he says is a different phone from the Ace 7 and Ace 7 Pro.

OnePlus 16 specifications

The OnePlus has a flat 6.78-inch BOE X4 LTPO OLED panel with 1.5K resolution. It runs at up to 165Hz across the interface and reaches 185Hz in supported games, with help from dedicated P4 display, G3 network, and T3 touch chips.

Qualcomm’s 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. The 9,000mAh battery is a big step up from the OnePlus 15’s 7,300mAh cell, and it supports 100W wired, 50W wireless and 27W reverse wired charging.

A 200-megapixel main camera with OIS leads the rear setup, alongside a 50-megapixel ultrawide and a 50-megapixel 3x periscope telephoto, while a 50-megapixel camera handles selfies. ColorOS 17 comes preinstalled, and prices start at CNY 5,999 (~$900) for the 12GB5+256GB model.
