Apple iPhone Duo in a hand

The Galaxy Z Fold 8’s sales figures have gone up sharply in recent weeks, and the credit goes to the iPhone Duo. There are a growing number of complaints from Apple’s foldable users around spotty quality assurance and screen cracking, and that has likely shifted some of the buyers to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8.

According to a report from Korean publication Herald Business, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 sales increased by more than 20% in a week after the iPhone Duo started shipping last week. It is an even better increase for the Galaxy foldable than the one that happened last month — about a 10% uplift on a week-to-week basis when people finally saw Apple’s first foldable and its hefty pricing.

Samsung is looking to make the most of this moment as it extends the subscription for the New AI Subscription Club until the end of November. This upgrade program lets you trade in your old device and get a new one every 1, 2, or 3 years. As a part of this upgrade program, Galaxy foldable owners (Fold8, Fold8 Ultra and Flip8) are promised a 50% buy-back value for the 1-year plan, 40% for the 2-year plan (50% for a Flip upgrade), and 25% for the 3-year plan.

Additionally, Samsung is running a “Galaxy End of the Year Fiesta” campaign until December 31, which unlocks in-store shopping perks.

Despite multiple complaints, Apple continues to see strong demand for the iPhone Duo and is unable to fulfill that due ongoing memory and chip shortages. The has officially announced that Duo units affected by the inner screen cracking problems are eligible for a free replacement, even if that’s not covered under the AppleCare+ plan. However, early hardware defects have directed some potential buyers towards Samsung’s foldable. The South Korean giant will reportedly invest heavily in the new form factor in 2027.
