Honor of Kings from Tencent reclaims throne as Top Mobile Game App by Revenue in September

The Honor of Kings, the immensely popular MOBA title for smartphones from Tencent, has reclaimed its top spot for the highest revenue for a mobile game app from across the globe.

Honor of Kings

As per a new report from SensorTower, Honor of Kings from Tencent brought in a total close to 240 million US Dollars in user spending in September 2020. This does not include third party Android stores and showcases a significant growth of 87 percent from September 2019. China was the dominating market with a 96 percent share in the overall revenue within the game, followed by Taiwan with just 1.5 percent and Thailand with 1.2 percent revenue share.

The “Top Mobile Games by Worldwide Revenue for September 2020” list also includes known names like PUBG Mobile, that arrives second in both overall and iOS stores, while Coin Master came in third. Notably, PUBG Mobile didn’t make the top 10 list in Google Play revenue list, while Coin Master didn’t make the cut either but for the iOS App Store revenue rankings.

Honor of Kings

Previously, we had reported on the explosive rise and popularity of Genshin Impact, which became the second highest grossing game for a week, bringing in 60 million US Dollars, but it did not make an appearance on the list. Back in August, the rankings for the highest grossing video game application had PUBG Mobile take the top spot for the month, but Honor of Kings has reclaimed its title.

In the Interbrand rankings, the South Korean tech giant arrived fifth, behind other major brands like Apple who took first place, Amazon (2nd), Microsoft (3rd), and Google (4th). This also marks the company’s largest ever brand valuation of 62.3 billion US Dollars. It arrives despite the issues Samsung faced due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, with its brand value rising by 2 percent from 61.1 billion US Dollars from back in 2019.

This incremental but crucial rise is what helped it break into the top 5 positions. Notably, the company arrived fifth after just three years since it was placed at the sixth position in the Best Global Brands listing of 2017. Samsung had started recording its consistent growth in terms of brand value from back in 2000, where it started the list with the 43rd position in the Interbrand listing. Since then, the brand has entered the top 10 rankings by 2012 and managed to reach the sixth position in 2017.

Samsung

As per the company’s official newsroom announcement, “Samsung’s move upwards in Interbrand’s list of 100 most valuable brands in the world was backed by the continuous introduction of innovative products and implementation of broad marketing activities on the global stage.” The brand also stated that its quick response and adaption to the COVID-19 crisis was also key to guiding its way to the top 5 positions.

Xiaomi teases Mi Box 4S; launch set for tomorrow

Xiaomi is known for its affordable products. One of them is TV streaming devices called Mi Box. The last model released by the company in China was Mi Box 4 SE in January 2019. It is a toned-down version of Mi Box 4 from January 2018. Now, the company teases an upgraded version of the latter model called Mi Box 4S.

Xiaomi Mi Box 4S Teaser

The official Weibo account of Mi Box shared a teaser picture of Mi Box 4S along with four feature highlights and the price. According to the post, the new Mi Box model will come with dual-band WiFi, voice control remote, 4K HDR video playback support, and 2GB + 8GB storage configuration.

Further, the post also reveals its price to be only 289 yuan ($43). Going by the teaser picture, like the original Mi Box 4, the new Mi Box 4S will come in a white color paint job in China.

In case you are wondering, Mi Box 4 is sold as Mi Box S and Mi Box 4K in international markets. But this Android TV streaming box only comes in black color in these regions.

That said, Xiaomi will be revealing the entire specs of its latest streaming device tomorrow (October  21) when it will go for pre-order, followed by sale on November 1.

Hopefully, the company includes a new powerful processor as the Amlogic S905X present in the current model has now aged well. However, since the Chinese tech giant hasn’t teased chipset upgrade in today’s teaser, we are not hoping much.

Google Pixel 5 users are reporting a gap between the display and frame

A new report has revealed that a small number of Google Pixel 5 units are suffering from an issue that is apparent with the first shipments of the smartphone. The users have found that there is a noticeable gap between the frame of the device and its display.

Google

As per a GSMArena report, a few Pixel 5 units are suffering from this gap issue, which has also led to concerns regarding the smartphone’s IP68 water resistance rating. At the moment, only a small number of devices are affected by this issue, but it appears that additional reports have surfaced in the last couple of days. These have been found on Google’s official Pixel forums and even on other websites as well.

This gap has been found in multiple locations on the surface of the handset and is always between the seam between the screen and the frame. The most common area for the gap to appear is near the front facing camera, while other reports have also found it near the SIM Tray and along the top of the device as well. This issue is also more common on the Just Black color variant, although, Sorta Sage models are also being affected.  Google

Notably, the gap isn’t caused after the Google Pixel 5 is used, but rather, it is noticeable immediately out of the box. A possible explanation might be that the sealing process that had the display being stuck to the frame was not done with a correct amount of force or adhesive. However, that is just speculation, so take it with a pinch of salt. We will have to wait for an official statement from Google to know for sure, so stay tuned.

Huawei Mate 40 series’ themes leaked, EMUI 11 to bring Dual Dynamic Icons

The Huawei Mate 40 series’ launch conference is just around the corner. These smartphones will be the company’s latest flagship, but just prior to their October 22 launch, a new leak has revealed the themes of the lineup and also some information regarding EMUI 11Huawei

According to an ITHome report, the Huawei Mate 40 series will feature multiple themes which include Starry Night (based on the famous work from Van Gogh), Midsummer Fireworks, Eyes of the Universe, and many more. The new devices will also feature improvement in the software and UI aspects, with the smart multi window offering better multi tasking, floating notifications, and quick reply options as well.

Huawei

Unfortunately, it is currently unknown what exactly the “Dual Dynamic Icon” actually is, but going by its name, it’s likely a more dynamic icon pack for the apps provided by Huawei. In other words, the icons might have two layers, which could be supplemented by a simple animation that also reflects on the application’s functionality.
