Acer, in collaboration with Indkal Technologies, has entered the Indian smartphone market with the launch of the Super ZX. Priced under Rs 10,000, this device aims to deliver a capable all-around experience with minimal compromises. Here’s how it fares in real-world use across key categories.

Design and Build

The Acer Super ZX’s Carbon Black variant that I have has a matte, glittery look when viewed from different angles. The build is polycarbonate, like most phones in this range, and it has a slim profile of 8.6mm. It weighs around 200 grams. The device looks attractive thanks to the large and round camera module, which houses three cameras and an LED flash. On the front, it has a big, flat display.

The bottom edge is crowded with a 3.5mm audio jack, a microphone, a USB-C port, and a speaker grille. The left edge has a SIM slot, the right side features a volume rocker and power key, and the top edge has another speaker for stereo output along with a microphone.

Inside the box, Acer keeps it minimal but useful. Notably, it includes a 33W charger, a braided USB-C cable, which is rarely seen at this price point—a protective case, a SIM ejector tool, and some paperwork.

One of the Super ZX’s standout features is its large 6.7-inch LCD FHD+ display, which is uncommon in the sub-Rs 10,000 range. The screen offers improved outdoor visibility thanks to 800 nits of peak brightness. The 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate add smoothness, particularly noticeable while scrolling or gaming. The display also supports Widevine L1, enabling HD playback on streaming platforms. However, it lacks support for HDR formats, so users won’t get the enhanced contrast and colour benefits of HDR content.

You get color scheme options like Natural, Boosted, Saturated, and Adaptive, along with refresh rate settings such as Auto, 60Hz, and 120Hz. There’s also a Sunlight Mode to enhance visibility under direct sunlight. While the display remains usable outdoors, it may not be the best in its class.

For content consumption, the display performs well. For audio, it is equipped with a pair of speakers with a boosted 200 percent volume feature, and there’s a Hi-Fi mode that kicks in when earphones are connected. The sound through the built-in speakers is quite loud, clear, and sufficient.

The device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset, coupled with LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 2.2 storage, and handles day-to-day tasks reliably. From browsing and using social media apps to light gaming and multitasking, the phone is responsive. The availability of up to 8GB of virtual RAM expansion further helps with app switching and background tasks.

The 5,000mAh battery, which is sufficient for a full day, supports 33W fast charging. It takes around 1:30 hours for a full charge.

Acer has shipped the device with Android 15, and notably, it offers a clean user interface with no third-party bloatware or unwanted pre-installed apps. The lack of a custom skin ensures a smoother and more private user experience. The company has promised two OS upgrades, which means it will receive Android 16 and 17.

While the UI is clean, there are some new additions in the Settings menu, which include DuraSpeed and Special Features. DuraSpeed, also seen on Lava phones, boosts the foreground app by restricting background apps. Special Features include App Lock, Side Bar, One-Handed Mode, Double Tap Back Panel (customisable for flashlight, screenshot, play/pause, any app, and more), Anonymous Call Recording, Smart Island, Three-Finger Screenshot, Lift to Wake, Incoming Call Flash, and Quick Camera Access via double-pressing the power button.

I did notice a few minor jitters in the software, which can likely be resolved through future software patches. Here’s a how the device performed on benchmarking apps.

Cameras and Other Features

In the camera department, the Super ZX brings an interesting mix. The rear setup is led by a 64-megapixel Sony IMX682 sensor, which helps in capturing better low-light shots and sharper details. Supporting it are 2-megapixel macro and 2-megapixel depth sensors.

In daylight, the Acer Super ZX can capture decent shots, but portrait shots also come with good edge detection. However, its photography prowess diminishes in low-light scenarios.

On the front, there’s a 13-megapixel selfie camera capable of 2K video recording, which is a good addition for those who rely on video calls or vlogging on a budget. When you enable EIS (stabilization), the video options are limited to 720p or 1080p. In terms of photography, the selfie camera performs well in good lighting, but portrait selfies suffer due to HDR limitations.

To sum up, I found only the main and selfie cameras useful, which is again common in this price category.

The Super ZX comes with other features, such as a side fingerprint scanner and a 3.5mm jack. It lacks support for NFC.

Verdict

The Acer Super ZX brings a thoughtful mix of design, clean software, decent performance, and hardware features in its price range. While it doesn’t try to oversell itself with aggressive marketing or flashy gimmicks, it manages to identify itself as an entry-level 5G offering with a clean UI and decent performance.

With a starting price of Rs 9,999, the Acer Super ZX is one of the most affordable 5G phones available in the Indian market. It comes in three RAM variants—4GB, 6GB, and 8GB—all offering 128GB of storage. These models are priced at Rs 9,999, Rs 10,999, and Rs 11,999, respectively. It comes in three shades: Carbon Black, Lunar Blue, and Cosmic Green.

With this pricing, the Acer Super ZX competes with the likes of the Poco M7 5G (Snapdragon 4 Gen 2), Redmi 14C 5G (Snapdragon 4 Gen 2), Moto G35 (Unisoc T670), Infinix Note 50x 5G (Dimensity 7300), and other Dimensity 6300-powered phones, such as Samsung Galaxy F16 5G, Galaxy M16 5G, Galaxy M06 5G, Galaxy A06 5G, Vivo Y19, Lava Bold, Realme C73, and itel A95.
