Amazon’s Kindle readers are pretty popular and the Kindle Paperwhite is one of its most popular models. Amazon has refreshed the Paperwhite, the first time in three years, and along with the new model comes a special Signature Edition with some premium features.

The new Amazon Kindle Paperwhite starts at $139 (with ads) and it comes with a bigger 6.8-inch display. The bezels are slimmer now to make the increase in the overall size of the device minimal. The display which still has a 300 PPI pixel density has a built-in backlight and features an adjustable color-temperature feature to make it easy on the eyes when reading in the dark. Just as it is available on several models, the warm light can be set to turn on at a specific time.

Amazon says the battery life on the Kindle is much better now and a single charge should last up to 10 weeks, an upgrade from the 6 weeks of the 2018 model. It also charges via USB-C now and a full charge takes 2.5 hours. The Kindle Paperwhite has an IP68 rating, so you can read beside the pool or at the beach. If you are looking for figures, the product page says it will survive immersion in 2 meters of freshwater for up to 60 minutes and up to 0.25 meters of seawater for up to 3 minutes.

The Kindle Paperwhite still has 8GB of storage but it now has a faster chipset that Amazon claims improves page turn speed by 20%. There is a new software that makes it easier to access device settings and it also brings a new bottom navigation that makes operating the kindle easier.

For the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition, you get the same display but 32GB of storage. Its warm light can also auto adjust and it supports wireless charging too. This version costs $189.

There is also a $159 Kindle Paperwhite Kids version that is the standard model with a kid-friendly cover, a 2-year worry-free guarantee, 1 year of Amazon Kids+.

You can pre-order the new Kindle Paperwhite models today but they won’t ship until October 27. Amazon is offering 4 months of Kindle Unlimited for those who purchase the new eReaders.

Amazon’s Kindle is one of the most popular e-readers in the market and the company has a few different models in the lineup, covering a wide range of price segments. Amazon also keeps updating the hardware regularly.

Now, it seems that the online retail giant is gearing up to launch a new version of its popular Kindle Paperwhite. The company is also expected to launch a new “Signature Edition” along with a standard model.

The upcoming devices were listed on Amazon’s Canada and Mexican websites, which has now been removed, reports GoodEReader. The comparison chart of the upcoming devices revealed what to expect in terms of features.

The Amazon Kindle Paperwhite and Paperwhite Signature Edition will come with a 6.8-inch display offering 300ppi pixel density and 17 LEDs. For comparison, the current Kindle Paperwhite model has a 6-inch display with four LEDs.

Both of these upcoming models support IPX8 ratings for waterproof. It appears that the devices may come with narrower side and top bezels. There’s also adjusting warm light support that is likely to pack both white and amber LEDs, similar to Kindle Oasis.

While the standard model offers 8GB of internal storage, the Signature Edition supports 32GB of internal storage, along with support for wireless charging. It also features auto-adjusting light sensors to change brightness depending on the environment.

As for the pricing, the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite is expected to be priced around CAD$150 while the Paperwhite Signature could be priced at CAD$210. When converted to USD, it roughly converts to $117 and $165, respectively. To know for sure, we’ll have to wait for the official announcement from Amazon, which should happen soon.
