<p><a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/google">Google</a> is making changes to the Android logo to make it more dynamic and playful. The new Bugroid logo is coming together with the Android watermark. It has a complete robot physique in a rounded and 3D avatar. The new changes to the Android are part of the dynamic evolution of the operating system.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1000" height="563" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Android-bugdroid-logo.webp?x10805" alt="Google" class="wp-image-564748" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Android-bugdroid-logo.webp 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Android-bugdroid-logo-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Android-bugdroid-logo-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Android-bugdroid-logo-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Android-bugdroid-logo-746x420.webp 746w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></figure>

<p>The Android OS has been a hotbed of Google’s innovation and experimentation. Google’s confirmation of the Bugroid comes after several months of having a sneak peek of the refreshed Android logo. The Bugroid started off as a full-bodied logo, then got a slight color change, and then a significant redesign in 2019. The 2019 redesign of the Bugroid’s head omitted its body but the new logo returns to a full robot physique.</p>

<p>The Bugroid logo draws inspiration from Material design to complement the Google brand palette, according to Google. The robot’s full-body design is focused on transitioning between digital and real-life environments seamlessly. The Bugroid will appear in more places than the Android logo.. It will specifically appear where Android connects with people, cultural moments, and communities. It is dynamic and takes different skins like the platform.</p>

<p>The new Google wordmark was also confirmed by the tech giant. Google is tweaking the Android moniker with some capitalizations and enhancements. The previous “android” wordmark will transform to a capitalized A and rounding of the n and r. This delivers a new wordmark complementary to the Google logo. The representation will also be simpler, going forward. The dessert codenames will be omitted for easier understanding globally. The dessert nicknames are still retained internally.</p>

<h2>Exploring the Elements of the New Android Logo</h2>

<p>While Google has been implementing uniform logo redesigns for its app icons, applying the iconic Google colors, the new Android logo stands out with its unique design. Although it has been primarily showcased in advertisements on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/youtube/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">YouTube</a> and presentations, it is expected to roll out on boot screens upon the release of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-14/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Android 14</a> in the coming months.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="970" height="546" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/New-vs-old-Android-logo.webp?x10805" alt="New vs old Android logo" class="wp-image-548320" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/New-vs-old-Android-logo.webp 970w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/New-vs-old-Android-logo-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/New-vs-old-Android-logo-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/New-vs-old-Android-logo-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/New-vs-old-Android-logo-746x420.webp 746w" sizes="(max-width: 970px) 100vw, 970px" /><figcaption>Left: Old logo; Right: New Logo</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>The incorporation of a pointy uppercase &#8220;A&#8221; contrasts with Google&#8217;s previous preference for rounded designs. However, the letters &#8220;n&#8221; and &#8220;r&#8221; have returned to their rounded form, reminiscent of the design used between 2014 and 2019. While the app icons have followed the flat design trend, the Android robot has been transformed into a 3D representation.</p>

<p>This logo redesign appears to indicate more than just a grammatical shift. It reflects Google&#8217;s vision for the Android operating system, aiming for a brand image that is both approachable and authoritative. The combination of super-rounded letters with a prominent pointy &#8220;A&#8221; creates a mature, modern, and expressive brand identity.</p>

<p>In addition to the updated uppercase &#8220;A,&#8221; the Android robot head has undergone a 3D redesign, departing from the prevailing flat design aesthetic. This change offers the potential for the robot to exhibit different personalities for various applications. During Google I/O 2023, the Android robot was showcased in various designs, including tires and a disco ball, emphasizing the platform&#8217;s versatility and expressiveness. The new logo allows for regular changes to the robot, enabling Google to visually communicate different Android tools and features.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">

</div></figure>

<p>The adoption of a 3D logo design may also align with Google&#8217;s anticipated focus on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/virtual-reality/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">virtual reality</a> and extended reality (VR/XR). Collaborating with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/02/02/samsung-rival-apple-vr-headset/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung and Qualcomm on an XR project</a>, speculations have arisen regarding the launch of a new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung-vr-headset/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung VR headset</a> powered by Google software. This partnership could potentially offer a more affordable alternative to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/06/05/apple-vision-pro-mixed-reality-headset-unveiled-pricing-starts-at-3499/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple&#8217;s Vision Pro</a>.</p>
