I got my hands on the G615LR-S5190WS model in Eclipse Gray, and from the moment I unboxed it, this 2.65 kg beast made a strong impression. Priced at a premium, it’s aimed at gamers, creators, and power users who demand top-tier performance. Here’s a deep dive into my experience.

Design and build

The ROG Strix G16 (2025) is aggressive yet refined. Its Eclipse Gray aluminium chassis feels sturdy, with bold RGB accents and the signature 4 zone RGB chiclet keyboard featuring a dedicated Copilot key making it a true head turner in both gaming setups and boardrooms. The cooling vents are strategically placed, and despite packing serious firepower, the laptop remains impressively cool and relatively quiet under load, thanks to ROG Intelligent Cooling. The form factor is large but justified at 2.65 kg and up to 3.08 cm thick yet still portable for a 16-inch performance laptop.

The bottom panel features a tool less design, allowing easy access by sliding a latch and lifting the cover, revealing the internal components for upgrades like additional RAM or SSD, as well as a clear view of the cooling system for fan cleaning and dust removal a convenient and user-friendly feature that eliminates the need for tools. The laptop looks awesome with RGB LED lighting running underneath, which can be customized using the Asus Armoury Crate app to tweak performance and lighting effects.

Port selection is generous, with 2x Thunderbolt 5, 3 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, HDMI 2.1, a 2.5G LAN port, and a 3.5mm combo jack. It easily supports multiple monitors and fast data transfer setups. For added convenience and security, there’s also a 1080p IR camera with Windows Hello support, though it appears grainy in low light, so ensuring sufficient room illumination should prevent issues during video meetings.

Display, keyboard, and audio

The 16-inch 2.5K ROG Nebula Display is a real highlight. With a 2560 x 1600 resolution, 240Hz refresh rate, 3ms response time, and 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut, every frame looks vivid, sharp, and ultra-smooth. Whether you’re fragging in *Valorant*, editing 4K footage, or watching *Dune: Part Two*, the viewing experience is incredibly immersive. The display supports Dolby Vision HDR, and its 500-nit brightness ensures visibility even in well-lit environments. However, at a price of Rs 2,60,000, an OLED panel would have been a welcome addition considering that the Asus’ more affordable productivity laptops also feature OLED.

While there is sufficient space on the keyboard area, there is no dedicated numpad, which might inconvenience users accustomed to one. The Print Screen button is oddly placed at the lower line of the keys, which feels counterintuitive. Typing is a pleasure on the premium-feeling keyboard with satisfying key travel, though I have a suggestion to move the Del key away from the power button. Despite sufficient space between these two buttons on this device, there is still a risk of accidentally hitting the power button, which could unintentionally put your PC into sleep mode. The touchpad is smooth and responsive. The Dolby Atmos-certified speakers with Hi-Res Audio and AI noise-cancellation are present but don’t feel loud enough; for a better experience, external speakers are recommended, while dedicated headphones remain the best choice for gaming.

Performance

This is where the ROG Strix G16 truly shines. It’s powered by the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor featuring 24 cores (8 performance + 16 efficiency), Intel’s AI Boost NPU, and 12GB GDDR7 NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti GPU. Backed by 32GB of DDR5-5600 RAM (expandable to 64GB), it’s a multitasking and AI-processing beast.

The 90WHr 4-cell Li-ion battery offers decent endurance for a high-performance gaming laptop. I averaged around 5.5 to 6 hours of mixed usage, including web browsing, Office apps, and light editing. During intense gaming sessions, battery life dropped to around 1.5 to 2 hours. The bundled 280W charger is quite heavy, and if you’re someone who moves the laptop from one room to another, you need to be careful with it. If you dangle the power brick by its cord, the cord may come off, and the power brick can fall, potentially causing a dent to the lid due to its lack of sturdiness. Despite its size, it managed to charge the laptop from 0 to 50% in just about 30 minutes.

The 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD delivered exceptional speeds, with CrystalDiskMark tests showing sequential read speeds of 3327.75 MB/s and write speeds of 1624.23 MB/s, alongside random read and write speeds of 30.08 MB/s and 50.42 MB/s, respectively. Gaming is handled by the powerful 12GB GDDR7 NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti, which delivered impressive results in GFXBench tests, achieving 11,198.7 frames in the Manhattan 3.1 test and 3915.8 frames in the T-Rex test, showcasing its capability for high-end gaming and rendering tasks. In Cinebench 2024 tests, the CPU scored 850 in single-core and 3420 in multi-core performance, while Geekbench 6.4 recorded a single-core score of 1899 and a multi-core score of 1484, highlighting its robust processing power.

NovaBench further confirmed its strength with an overall score of 3782, including a CPU score of 1899 and a GPU score of 1484. In gaming benchmarks, Forza Motorsport achieved an average of 35 FPS at 2560×1600 resolution with custom settings, including Ultra shadow quality and 16x anisotropic filtering, while the GPU utilization peaked at 57% and I could achieve up to 134W GPU power, possibly higher, though I only noticed 134W. Additionally, Shadow of the Tomb Raider rendered 11304 frames with an average of 58 FPS, demonstrating strong performance with the GPU handling 90% of the load and CPU utilization at 74%. In real-world tests, Cyberpunk 2077 on Ultra settings with ray tracing and DLSS 3 ran at over 90 FPS at 1440p, while God of War on Ultra delivered a consistent 100+ FPS.

Editing in After Effects and Wondershare Filmore 14 was buttery smooth, and AI model testing ran efficiently, thanks to Intel’s NPU and CUDA support. The MUX Switch with Advanced Optimus allows for seamless GPU switching to optimize both performance and battery life.

On the software front, this Windows 11 laptop comes pre-installed with Microsoft 365 Basic (1 year) and Office Home 2024, as well as a 3-month subscription to Xbox Game Pass for PC, giving users access to a rich game library out of the box.

Asus has excelled in thermal management, keeping the device cool during routine tasks, with fans remaining unobtrusive during gaming sessions and no signs of thermal throttling, though the rear exhaust can get noticeably warm.

The Asus ROG Strix G16 (2025) is an elite machine that blends raw power with refined design. It delivers on every front—whether you’re gaming, editing, or multitasking.
