Bowers & Wilkins Launches Px8 S2 McLaren Edition Premium Headphones with Upgraded 40mm Drivers and aptX Lossless

Bowers & Wilkins has launched the Px8 S2 McLaren Edition, a new version of its Px8 S2 wireless headphones created with McLaren Automotive and the McLaren Formula 1 Team. The headphones use the McLaren Papaya finish with Anthracite Grey accents, along with visible McLaren Speedmark details on the headband and earcups. The design also includes diamond-cut edges on each elliptical logo plate and soft Nappa leather on the memory-foam headband and ear cushions.

The Px8 S2 McLaren Edition focuses on sound performance and the look that connects to McLaren’s identity. It features Bowers & Wilkins noise-cancellation technology that reduces outside noise without affecting music quality. This model is the third product in the partnership and improves on the original Px8 S2.

Audio performance is driven by upgraded 40mm Carbon Cone drive units. The units have a redesigned chassis, voice coil, suspension and magnet for higher detail and better resolution. They are angled toward the listener’s ears to keep a consistent distance across the surface of each driver, which improves imaging and stereo width. The headphones support Qualcomm aptX Adaptive 24/96, aptX Lossless and Bowers & Wilkins DSP to deliver 24-bit, 96kHz high-resolution audio.

Users can control the headphones through the Bowers & Wilkins Music app. The app allows adjustment of noise cancellation, transparency mode, battery levels, wear sensor sensitivity and the Quick Action button. There is also a five-band EQ with the option to save presets. Battery life is rated at 30 hours, and a 15-minute charge provides up to seven hours of use.

The Px8 S2 McLaren Edition will be available from 19 November. Lyle Smith, President of Sound United at HARMAN, said the new model highlights the ongoing partnership with McLaren.

The Bowers & Wilkins Px8 S2 McLaren Edition will be sold on the Bowers & Wilkins website and through selected retailers for £729, €829 and $899.

Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) has recently introduced the Zeppelin McLaren Edition Speaker, priced at $899 internationally and 5999 yuan in China, as part of their ongoing collaboration with McLaren Automotive.

This wireless speaker seamlessly combines the aesthetics of racing cars with top-notch audio performance and boasts a striking Galvanic Grey and Papaya Orange finish, paying homage to the iconic racing cars of Bruce McLaren.

The speaker packs a punch with two 25 mm Double Dome tweeters, two 90 mm FST midrange drivers, and a 150 mm subwoofer, delivering an immersive 24-bit high-resolution stereo sound experience.

When it comes to streaming options, the Bowers & Wilkins speaker offers versatility, supporting Apple AirPlay 2, Bluetooth aptX Adaptive, and Spotify Connect. It’s compatible with its dedicated app and can be used with platforms like Deezer and TIDAL. Technically speaking, it’s equipped with Bluetooth 5.0, seamlessly connects with Apple devices via AirPlay 2, and links up with Macs and PCs running iTunes 12.8 or newer. Plus, it boasts a robust 240W output, covers a frequency range from 35 Hz to 24 kHz, features a USB-C service port, and is energy-efficient, using less than 2 watts when in standby mode.

The speaker measures 210 mm x 650 mm x 194 mm and has a weight of 6.5 kg. Notably, there’s also a special-edition version of the PX8 wireless headphones launched last year, known as the Px8 McLaren Edition. These headphones offer top-tier noise cancellation, advanced audio technology, and a design inspired by McLaren supercars, featuring luxurious Galvanic Grey leather and eye-catching Papaya Orange accents.

Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2e wireless headphones with noise cancellation and a stylish design unveiled

The Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2e wireless headphones have been unveiled. The new wireless headphones come with a stylish design and functionality that competes with Sony’s WH-1000XM5. It retains a sleek exterior as its predecessors but has a Forest Green color outlook.

The B&W Px7 S2e offers significant sound improvements over the Px7 S2. It has an extensively upgraded DSP with custom, slightly angled 40mm drivers. The model comes with improved processing that has allowed Bowers to retune the acoustic platform excellently. It bridges the gaps of lack of spaciousness and energy that were visible with the Px7 S2. The new model is primed for stiff competition with the leaders in the segment dominated by Sony and Bose. The Sony WH-1000XM lineup and the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones are the premium models in the market.

The new B&W wireless headphones support high-quality Bluetooth codecs, Qualcomm’s aptX Adaptive. It also has a USB-C connection as well as a 3.5mm audio jack. The Px7 S2e headphones offer up to 30 hours of battery life with fast charging support. Up to 7 hours of playback can be gotten with 15 minutes of charge for the headphones.

Active noise cancellation is featured in the B&W AmpX headphones. It has six microphones that help to cancel environmental noise for clarity in listening to music or making calls. Two of the mics measure the driver’s output, two help to detect and remove ambient noise, while the other two help to deliver voice clarity during calls.

The B&W Px7 S2e’s EQ can be adjusted, features a transparency mode, and also supports music streaming services like Tidal, Tuneln, and Deezer. The streaming service will be upgraded with the addition of more options subsequently. The headphones are priced equivalently for $399.

Back in September, Bowers & Wilkins launched the PX8 headphones in the market. In October, the brand released the PX8 007 special edition on James Bond’s 60th anniversary. Now, the brand has collaborated with the iconic British luxury automotive manufacturer McLaren to launch the Bowers & Wilkins McLaren Edition headphones in the global markets.

The headphones feature Galvanic Grey color cups and headband with a streak of McLaren’s Papaya Orange lapping around the earcups. The inside of the earcup also features the papaya orange color. The McLaren branding is present on the headband as well as the grey-colored carry case of the headphones.

The headphones are equipped with 43.6 mm carbon fiber drivers and a DSP capable of reproducing 24-bit audio over AUX, Bluetooth, or USB Type-C. All B&W Px8 models support AAC, SBC, aptX, aptX HD, and aptX Adaptive Bluetooth codecs.

Furthermore, Bowers & Wilkins claims the PX8 has a battery life of up to 30 hours, though we assume this decreases with ANC enabled. The pair are said to have teamed up to commemorate their collaborations on the McLaren Artura, McLaren GT, and McLaren Speedtail.

The PX8 McLaren Edition is now available for order in the Eurozone, the United Kingdom, and the United States for €799, £699, and US$799, respectively. B&W PX8 007 edition headphones celebrates James Bond’s 60th anniversary

Bowers & Wilkins has just launched a new special edition headphone that celebrates the 60th anniversary of James Bond. The new device is the “bespoke PX8 007 Edition” B&W headphones, which carry a unique design that is inspired by the famous British spy.

Notably, the new Bowers & Wilkins PX8 007 edition headphones features a design that celebrates the Midnight Blue tuxedo worn by James Bond in 1962’s Dr. No. In other words, it is a direct homage to the beginning of the iconic character based on Ian Fleming’s spy novels. Interestingly, the collaboration between the popular film series and Bowers & Wilkins arrives as B&W just became the partner of the James Bond franchise.

While the collaboration might seem odd, music has been an iconic part of the franchise itself. You can still clearly hum the original and legendary theme song of James Bond that was created by Monty Norman. So, it is not surprising that the series partners with an audio based company that has been a known brand in the high end premium audio products segment that ranges from the luxury speakers, HiFi and Home Cinema, and even hearable devices as well.

The new PX8 007 Edition is basically the B&W PX8 wireless headphones but with a unique new design. It now features a Midnight Blue finish inspired by the dinner jacket worn by Bond in his first ever screen appearance (played by Sean Connery). The new PX8 007 model will be available on the 007Store.com and the official Bowers & Wilkins website as well and will go on sale on 19th October 2022. Being a premium special edition product it carries a hefty price tag of 799 US Dollars.
