A new Windows 11 update has made it possible to deploy ChatGPT on your desktop without opening your Microsoft Edge browser. The new Windows 11 OS update is via the PowerToys widget using a new plugin. The plugin will allow direct access to the ChatGPT open AI-based application. The update allows a user to go directly from the desktop to ChatGPT.

The new plugin was developed by ChatGPT plugin developer, Simone Franco and he detailed the process through the PowerToys GitHub page. The new plugin integrates through the PowerToys Run. This is a search launcher for files, folders, and apps on the system. The plugin is still undergoing development, as it is in its early stage and needs finetuning. There are lots of advantages of bypassing a browser in deploying ChatGPT on the PC. This allows for the bypassing of any aggressive browser promotion that is present with Microsoft Edge.

Microsoft Edge and Bing AI have been the subject of extensive promotions on the Edge browser. It is obvious that the new ChatGPT plugin could encourage users to settle for its AI solutions rather than Bing AI. Microsoft Edge aggressively seeks the user to make Edge his default browser. A recent Windows 11 update has added an AI-powered search box in the taskbar that effectively forces users to use the search engine by default. The new plugin helps users to completely bypass these forced promotions and go directly to ChatGPT.

The user is required to open an OpenAI account together with a randomly generated OpenAI API key. You can also deploy the ChatGPT with a keyboard shortcut key for seamless access to the AI resources on the application. It seems incongruous however that the new open-source update is coming from PowerToys which bypasses the Microsoft OS. More updates are expected in the PowerToys widget to deliver simplified features to users.
