Geely-backed chip startup SiEngine says its Dragon Eagle-1 chip is now present in over 200,000 vehicles. The chip is an automotive-grade chip produced by SiEngine and wholly manufactured in China. The 7nm cockpit chip was released in December 2021.

The Dragon Eagle-1 is claimed to be wholly manufactured in China

The Dragon Eagle-1 can be found on various EVs including the Lynk & Co 08 SUV, 06 EM-P SUV, and Livan 7 SUV all from Geely. The chipmaker has also received orders from other EV manufacturers including FAW for more than 20 different models. The Dragon Eagle-1 is an integrated circuit that compresses all of a system’s required components into a single chip. It is as small as a fingernail (about 83 sq. mm) and has 8.8 billion transistors, as well as 87 layers of circuit. The Dragon Eagle-1’s CPU has 8 cores, while its GPU comes with 14 cores. It also features programmable NPU, ISP, VPU, and DSP clusters and is built from the 7nm fab process.

SiEngine is a joint venture between ECARX and ARM China. It is dedicated to the design, development, and sales of advanced automotive electronic chips. ECARX was founded by Geely’s founder Eric Li (Li Shufu). It is an automotive technology provider while ARM is a chip design company under Softbank and is based in the UK. ECARX and ARM also provided critical support for the SiEngine’s early IP design and tape-out, according to the information released. In 2022, SiEngine received major capital investment boosts from three sources including FAW and diversified industrial chains. The Series A/ A+ financing has put SiEngine in a great position and this is visible from the development of the Dragon Eagle-1.

SiEngine is technically owned by Geely and its Chairman is Shen Ziyu, who also serves as Chairman and CEO of ECARX, as well as Xingji Meizu, a Geely subsidiary. SiEngine will continue to develop the new chip expand its capabilities and use it in more EV brands.
