Decathlon, a name synonymous with quality sports gear, has recently expanded its electric bike range with the introduction of the Rockrider E-EXPL 700. Designed for beginners and intermediate riders, this electric mountain bike (e-MTB) strikes a fine balance between affordability and performance.

The e-MTB can offer pedal assistance up to 25 kilometers

The E-EXPL 700 is part of Decathlon‘s Rockrider series, known for its mountain biking prowess. This new model brings electric power to the trails, offering a boost to those who love off-road cycling but might need a little extra push on challenging terrains.

Electric Bike

At the heart of the Rockrider E-EXPL 700 is a suite of reliable components. It’s equipped with a Shimano Deore 5130 rear derailleur, a Deore LG 11-43 rear cassette, and an LG500 chain. While these are entry-level components from Shimano, they are renowned for their reliability and smooth performance, making them a smart choice for riders who are just starting to explore rougher trails.

The bike’s performance is further enhanced by the Brose Drive-T mid-mounted motor. This compact motor packs a punch, delivering 70 Nm of torque and offering pedal assistance up to 25 kilometers per hour (18 miles per hour). This makes uphill climbs and long rides less daunting, allowing riders to focus on enjoying their journey.

A standout feature is the bike’s 630-watt-hour battery, boasting a range of up to 62 miles on a single charge. For extended adventures, there’s an optional 360-watt-hour range-extender, adding another 27.5 miles of exploration possibilities.

The Rockrider E-EXPL 700 doesn’t skimp on safety and comfort either. It comes with Tektro M530 hydraulic brakes and a 130-millimeter suspension fork, ensuring smooth and secure rides even on rugged terrains. The bike is available only in a 29er configuration, highlighting its focus on cross-country riding.

Aesthetically, the E-EXPL 700 is as practical as it is stylish. It features a full-color TFT display on the handlebars, keeping riders informed of vital stats during their ride.

The E-EXPL 700’s price point is a major draw. Priced at 2,499 euros (around $2,724 USD), it offers comparable specs to higher-priced models, making it an attractive option for those seeking quality without the hefty price tag. Available in sizes S, M, and L, and accessible through Decathlon’s online store, this e-MTB is set to bring electric mountain biking within reach of more enthusiasts, promising a blend of performance, affordability, and fun.
