Faraday Future has recently begun taking reservations for the FF 91 through its official website and application. The car is set to be unveiled in the first half of next year but prospective buyers can reserve the upcoming vehicle for 50,000 Yuan (roughly 7,700 US Dollars).

As per the company’s official road map, the new car will be unveiled at the Investor Day event on 21st September 2021 and will be listed in the first half of 2022. Previously, Faraday Future had stated that its FF 91 will focus on bringing a luxury vehicle in the electric car market that will offer both long range and strong performance. Now, the official website has begun pre orders for this upcoming vehicle, with the amount also being refundable.

For those unaware, the FF 91 is the company’s first model to be ready for mass production. While this car had been first unveiled a couple of years prior, the brand had faced various issues at the start that caused several setbacks and even caused delayed the launch of its first car. Jia Yueting’s company had also struggled to remain afloat at one point, but the FF 91 finally has a launch window for the automobile market.

Faraday Future, a California-based company that is working on a smart car project for the last few years, has announced that the company will be using the NVIDIA Drive Orin platform for its flagship FF 91 luxury electric vehicle.

With the selection of Drive Orin SoC, the carmaker is hoping to leverage the continuous improvements and performance leaps across generations of the NVIDIA DRIVE platform. The upcoming FF 91 plans to achieve advanced highway autonomous driving capabilities and advanced parking and summon features when it goes on sale in 2022.

NVIDIA DRIVE Orin contains 21 billion transistors and integrates the NVIDIA Ampere GPU architecture, 12 Cortex-A78 ARM 64CPUs, along with deep learning and computer vision accelerators. It is claimed to deliver 254 trillion operations per second of performance.

Faraday Future is targeting more advanced autonomous driving and parking features on its future FF 81 and FF 71 vehicles, which are expected to be available in 2023 and 2024, respectively. They will also be powered by NVIDIA DRIVE Orin as the company is looking to offer high-performance and energy-efficient compute capability.

Coming to the FF 91, it will come with an industry-leading 1,050 horsepower, the largest battery pack of 130 kWh equipped with submerged liquid battery cooling technology. It can go from 0 to 60 in less than 2.4 seconds and will have a unique rear compartment intelligent internet system.

Faraday Future is currently preparing to merge with Property Solutions Acquisition Corp., which is expected to happen in the second quarter of 2021. The FF 91 is planned to be launched within 12 months of the closing of the merger.

LeEco-backed Faraday Future unveiled its FF 91 concept electric car at CES 2017 in Las Vegas which it says will ship in 2018. The company had hinted that those interested in having the car would be required to register their interest by making a down payment of $5,000, but the company failed to disclose the likely price of the Faraday Future FF 91.

Even without knowing what the FF 91 would cost in the long run, registration for the electric car was reported to have reached 64,124 in just 36 hours. Previous rumors had suggested that the Faraday Future electric car would be priced around $150K – 200K USD but in a recent interview, LeEco’s CEO revealed that the FF 91 will be priced under 2 million yuan (around $290,000). This is way more expensive than the Tesla Model S P100D which is currently the fastest accelerating electric car (the FF 91 will soon replace that). The Tesla Model S starts at around $130K in the US. Even at that, the FF 91 is still not as expensive as we thought it would be but sure it is a price that is profitable to the company as the model isn’t tailored after LeEco’s cheap flagship phone sales model where they make money from content sales.

The Faraday Future FF 91 features lots of innovative technology, with superior performance and superior handling. It is an SUV  which is touted as having the ability to hit 60 mph in just 2.39 seconds, a few milliseconds faster than the Tesla Model S. The car also has a self-driving feature and is capable of parking itself. The car, in addition, comes with lots of smart connectivity features inside.

In a related development, Faraday Future has opened its official website in China and is now accepting booking from those interested in having the car which it called “Dream Partner” version. All they’ll need to do is to make a deposit of 50,000 yuan. It is also expected to ship in 2018 in China.
