Samsung Galaxy A26: What’s in the new variant?

The South Korean tech giant’s Galaxy A26 was first announced for a starting price tag of 24,999 INR for the 8GB + 128GB option. On the other hand, the higher end 8GB + 256GB variant costs 27,999 INR. Samsung’s Galaxy A26 5G is already on sale on the brand’s official website and offline stores. Buyers can also purchase this device in four color options, namely Peach, Mint, White, and Black.

But now, the Galaxy A26 is going on sale in a fresh 6GB + 128GB model that costs just 23,499 INR. Apart from the RAM and pricing, it is identical to the other storage configurations. So users still get an Exynos 1380 SoC under the hood. The latest Galaxy A series phone sports a tall 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ for protection.

A sizeable 5,000mAh battery pack powers this model, which supports 25W wired fast charging. Out of the box, this model runs on the Android 15 OS One UI 7 custom skin with Samsung promising up to 6 Android OS updates and 6 years of security patches as well. For photography, the rear has a 50MP (Main) + 8MP (Ultra wide) + 2MP (Macro) camera setup, while the front houses a 13MP selfie shooter. Samsung has officially announced the launch of three new mid-range smartphones under its Galaxy A series in India on March 2. These are the much anticipated Galaxy A26, Galaxy A36, and Galaxy A56, which are expected to hit the global market soon after their release in India.

Interested buyers in India can already register their interest on Samsung’s official webpage. The company has also confirmed that these phones will receive an impressive six years of OS updates.

The Galaxy A26, A36, and A56 are expected to launch with Android 15-based One UI 7 out of the box, which is also impressive considering the company’s achievements in rolling out the update to older devices, including last year’s flagships S and Z series.

If Samsung keeps its promise, these upcoming mid-range devices will be updated all the way to Android 21, a significant commitment for mid-range smartphones, to say the least. Nonetheless, we think its too soon to comment on timely updates, considering the current situation.

Leaked specifications:

Leaked specifications reveal that the Galaxy A26 will feature a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display (up from the 6.5″ display of Galaxy A25) with a U-shaped notch. Not to mention, this design choice feels outdated compared to a punch-hole cutout, especially in 2025.

The other two models are also expected to pack slightly larger displays—6.7″ up from 6.6″. While the Galaxy A25 came with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and the successor is expected to follow the same, both the A36 and A56 likely pack under-display optical sensors for the putpos.

Under the hood, the Galaxy A36 is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip, while the A56 will reportedly use the Exynos 1580 processor. All three models are likely to come with 6GB or 8GB of RAM, 128GB or 256GB of storage, a 5,000 mAh battery (same as their predecessors). Interestingly, both the A36 and A56 are rumored to support 45W fast charging, up from 25W of the predecessors and the same as the latest S series flagships, at least on paper. Nonetheless, expect a decent price tag for the adapter that you’ll need to buy separately. The Galaxy S25 Ultra has faced some compatibility issues with older charging accessories, both official and third-party, which I think you should check out before making a decision.

Camera-wise, the A series models are said to feature a 50MP primary camera (with OIS) and a 12MP secondary sensor.

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy A26 5G is inching closer to its official launch. Now the support pages for the device have gone live in several markets, including the UK, Ireland, and Latin America. This follows earlier sightings of the phone on several certification platforms including BIS, TUV Rheinland, and Bluetooth SIG.

While the support pages don’t reveal much information about the device itself, they strongly suggest that the Galaxy A26 5G could debut soon, possibly alongside the Galaxy A36 and Galaxy A56 in March. For reference, the Galaxy A25 5G was announced back in December 2023.

The support pages, spotted on Samsung’s regional websites, don’t explicitly mention the Galaxy A26 5G by name. However, they list the model number SM-A26B/DS, which has been previously linked to the A26 in Bluetooth SIG listings. This confirms that the device is indeed the Galaxy A26 5G.

Galaxy A26 5G rumored specifications:

Based on previous leaks and rumors, the Galaxy A26 5G is expected to feature a 6.64-inch or 6.7-inch display with a waterdrop notch design. The screen will likely support FHD+ resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate.

Under the hood, the phone could be powered by an overclocked version of the Exynos 1280 chipset, though some rumors suggest it might feature the Exynos 2400e SoC instead.

For those unfamiliar, the Exynos 2400e is a slightly downclocked version of the flagship Exynos 2400, and it powers the more premium Galaxy S24 FE. So, it’s less likely that Samsung will use this chip to power a device that is expected to offer a water-drop notch in 2025. It could be paired with up to 8GB of RAM, 256GB of internal storage.

Now here’s another surprise: according to a previous report, the phone could pack a battery smaller than its predecessor—4,565mAh down from 5,000.

On the software front, it will likely run Android 15-based One UI 7, similar to the recently launched Galaxy S25 series. However, don’t expect the AI features as part of the Android 15-based skin.

So far, we’ve seen official-looking renders of the A36 and A56, and now the A26 has joined the mix. The latest leak comes from X tipster Arsène Lupin, revealing a familiar Samsung design choice.

A notch display—again

For some reason, Samsung is still sticking with notched displays for its A2x and lower-tier models. The Galaxy A26 follows suit, featuring a waterdrop-style notch and a noticeable chin at the bottom.

On the back, though, the A26 looks more in line with the A36 and A56. The cameras now sit in a pill-shaped module instead of separate rings, and the panel remains flat. We can also spot the Key Island design on the right edge, while it will be available in white, black, and mint green color variants. 

What to expect

According to a previous report, the Galaxy A26 5G will feature a 6.64- or 6.7-inch FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Physically, the phone is said to measure 164 x 77.5 x 7.7 mm and weigh 209 grams, giving it a slightly larger but slim and lightweight build. This is slimmer than the 8.3 mm predecessor, which weighs 197g. It might debut with a 5000mAh battery. 

Speaking of software, the Galaxy A26 5G will come with Android 15 out of the box, offering some of the latest features and security improvements from Samsung and Google. The launch of the Galaxy A26 should be imminent, as it’s already over a year since the launch of the predecessor.

Samsung is apparently working on three new mid range smartphones from its Galaxy A series. The Galaxy A56, Galaxy A36, and Galaxy A26 have just been spotted getting a new certification, which hints at their imminent release.

The South Korean tech giant’s Galaxy A26 was spotted with the SM-A266B/DS, SM-A266B, SM-A266M/DS, and SM-A266M model numbers on the TUV Rheinland certification (Via TheTechOutlook). Meanwhile, the Galaxy A36 carries the SM-A366B, SM-A336B/DS, SM-A366E, SM-A366E/DS, SM-A366U, SM-A366U1, SM-A366W, SM-S366V, and SM-A3660. The third and most expensive phone out of the three was also seen in multiple variants, namely SM-A566B/DS, SM-A566B, SM-A566E/DS, and SM-A566E.

The certification does not reveal finer details regarding these devices, but it does confirm their fast charging rates. Samsung’s Galaxy A26 may offer 25W wired fast charging, while the Galaxy A36 and Galaxy A56 are listed with 45W wired fast charging. Unfortunately, this was all the information that was revealed on the online listing. But based on what we know so far, the brand plans on launching the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 sometime in the middle of March 2025.

A couple of months ago, the Galaxy A56 visited GeekBench, which revealed that it is equipped with the Exynos 1580 SoC. These next gen Galaxy A series devices are reportedly getting a design overhaul as well with a new pill shaped camera module on the rear. In a TENAA listing, the Galaxy A56 can be seen with this new redesign. This makes it look similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 6‘s rear camera layout.

The Galaxy A26 5G has shown up on the BIS certification site under the model number SM-A266B/DS, which confirms it’s heading to India. The “DS” in the model number indicates dual-SIM support. Alongside this, Bluetooth SIG listings also confirm variants for global markets, including the U.S.

According to the Geekbench listing, the phone powers an overclocked version of the Exynos 1280 chipset, the same one that powers the Galaxy A25. It will be paired with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

Samsung isn’t stopping at just the Galaxy A26 5G. Rumors suggest the company is also preparing to launch the Galaxy A36 and Galaxy A56, which are expected to cater to both global and Indian markets in the coming weeks.

The South Korean tech giant’s Galaxy A26 was previously spotted on GeekBench with an Exynos 1280 processor. But now, the new mid range smartphone has its entire design revealed (Via AndroidHeadlines). The front has noticeable bezels and an Infinity-U screen. Meanwhile, the rear has a triple camera setup in an oval shaped module. The Galaxy A26 measures 164 x 77.5 x 7.7mm in dimensions, which makes it thinner than its predecessor. To recall, the Galaxy A25 was announced with a 161 x 76.5 x 8.3mm body.

Unfortunately, this was all the information that was shared in these leaked CAD renders. In the previous benchmark listing, the Samsung Galaxy A26 was spotted with 6GB of RAM, but there’s a chance that there might be an 8GB variant as well. The Galaxy A26 will run on the Android 15 OS based One UI 7 custom skin out of the box. While it’s still unclear, the Galaxy A26 could also arrive with 6 years of OS updates and 6 years of security updates.

The company has yet to make an official announcement regarding its launch. But rumours have hinted that the Galaxy A26 is expected to be introduced sometime in December 2024 or January 2025. It will likely have a similar price tag as the Galaxy A25 5G. Camera specifications are still at large, but the new phone could bring back the 50MP primary camera and an 8MP ultra wide angle lens on the rear. A large 5,000mAh battery should power this model as well, which could support 25W wired fast charging.

Samsung is gearing up for its next wave of entry-level and mid-range phones. Following the launch of the Galaxy A16, we recently saw renders of the Galaxy A36 5G. Now, the Galaxy A26 has made an unofficial appearance on Geekbench.

The smartphone made its debut on the benchmark with the model number SM-A266B. Based on Samsung’s naming scheme, this points towards the Galaxy A26, and the listing confirms it’ll be a 5G-enabled device. The interesting part lies under the hood.

The Galaxy A26 seems to feature an Exynos 1280 processor, marked by the codename S5E8825. This isn’t surprising, but what is, is the clock speed.

Galaxy A26 with higher-clocked Exynso 1280?

The Exynos 1280 typically runs at 2.4GHz for its performance cores, but the Geekbench listing suggests the A26 might be getting a slight overclock to 2.6GHz. This could be Samsung pushing the chip a bit further, or potentially a sign of a more efficient fabrication process allowing for higher speeds without overheating

Beyond the processor, the listing reveals 6GB of RAM, which seems like a reasonable starting point for a mid-range phone in 2024. Everything else remains a mystery, but hopefully, Samsung takes a page out of the Galaxy A36’s book and equips the A26 with an Infinity-O display. The Galaxy A25’s dated U-shaped notch just doesn’t cut it anymore.

Camera specs are anyone’s guess at this point. Considering the Galaxy A25 already boasts a 50MP main sensor and an 8MP ultrawide camera, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them carried over. The same goes for the 5,000mAh battery and 25W fast charging – if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?

The software side of things might be the biggest upgrade. The A26 is listed with Android 15 on Geekbench, so it could come pre-installed with it. Even better, if Samsung could offer six major Android updates, similar to the Galaxy A16. 

With the Galaxy A26 still under wraps, it’s hard to say for sure when or where it’ll launch.
