Gogoro extends its battery-swapping electric scooters to South America

Gogoro is the global leader in battery-swapping electric scooters and the company is making inroads into the Americas. The Gogoro scooters will soon berth in Latin America, with other countries including the US to follow later. Gogoro has just announced its expansion to South America and will deploy its e-scooters and battery-charging networks in Chile and Colombia.

Gogoro will partner with Copec, a Latin American energy company to deliver its first lineup of e-scooters in South America. The partnership between Gogoro and Copec will see to the development of charging stations in the two countries in addition to the release of the Gogoro Smartscooters. The first scooters and battery-swapping stations (GoStations) will become active in Q2 2024, according to Gogoro. The scooters will be available both for commercial use and private use. The commercial option will include delivery riders.

Gogoro says its partnership with Copec is an important milestone in its mission to transform urban transportation globally. Gogoro also stated that the partnership with Copec will provide an accessible path for both consumers and delivery riders to adopt sustainable urban mobility and contribute to the fight against climate change. Gogoro’s CEO and founder, Horace Luke estimated that on average, last-mile delivery riders ride more than six times the distance a consumer rider rides. Therefore, enabling delivery riders to adopt sustainable and smart electric transportation is bound to have an accelerated impact on cities.

Since 2015 when it first rolled out its battery-swapping system, Gogoro has expanded beyond its home market of Taiwan to China, Indonesia, India, Israel, Singapore, South Korea, and the Philippines. The first GoStation units will be unveiled in Santiago, Chile utilizing Copec service stations. Gogoro will partner with Colombia company, Terpel to operate battery-swapping stations in Bogota, Colombia. The entry of Gogoro into South America holds lots of promise for the company, as the continent has a growing population of riders.

Gogoro launches its scooters & Battery swapping platform in Israel

Swappable battery e-scooter manufacturer Gogoro is making inroads into the Israeli market. The company is launching its e-scooters and battery swapping platform in Tel Aviv. Gogoro recently partnered with distributor Metro Motor and Paz Group, both in Israel to deliver its electric scooters and battery swapping stations in the country.

Metro Motor is a popular two-wheeler distributor in Israel while Paz Group is an Israeli gas and energy company. Tel Aviv will be the first city to get the full complement of the Gogoro technology, but this will spread to other parts of Israel subsequently. Gogoro will be bringing its sustainable mobility solutions to the metropolitan area of the capital city in the summer, and expand to other cities. When operational, riders in Tel Aviv will enjoy the convenient and user-friendly swapping system, offering greater efficiency and shorter waiting times.

Riders will quickly swap their depleted batteries for fully charged ones within a few seconds. Gogoro is further developing new technology for its batteries deployed in swapping stations. It will be a lithium ceramic battery that could ramp up current capacity by as much as 140% up to 2.5kWh.The Taiwanese company has a fast-expanding network of dealerships and swapping stations across Asia. The company’s network currently includes more than 10,000 battery swapping platforms spread across more than 2,000 locations. It claims to be managing over 350,000 battery swaps in a day and 275 million swaps overall.

Gogoro teams up with two top e-scooter makers to launch its battery-swapping tech in China

Taiwanese company Gogoro is riding the crest of turbulence in the political scene with its innovative hot-swappable battery technology for electric scooters. The swappable battery technology will be kickstarted with two leading Chinese brands – Yadea and DJC, with a few of the two-wheel vehicles from these two brands compatible with the technology.

The move is Gogoro’s first large-scale expansion outside its home turf of Taiwan, and the company will hope that its swappable battery technology in both Yadea and DJC e-scooter models will enhance the sale of these models in China. China remains the largest market for electric scooters with over 300 million riders with a huge potential underneath. Yadea is the largest electric two-wheel vehicles manufacturer while DJC is also a renowned e-scooter manufacturer in China.

It is unclear what proportion of the market is targeted by this new Gogoro partnership with the two Chinese manufacturers, but the numbers could rise tremendously if the swappable battery technology is successful in China. Both Yadea and DJC have unveiled e-scooters designed to work with Gogoro’s hot-swappable battery called Huan-Huan. The models mark the beginning of their partnership with Gogoro, and we are bound to see more Gogoro-powered e-scooters from both companies.

The swappable battery technology allows users to scale up the range of their electric scooters by bypassing the wait to charge a depleted battery. Indeed, users can buy e-scooters without a battery at a reduced cost and then rent batteries via a subscription. The billing of the rented battery will be based on the actual power consumption of the battery. Newly charged batteries can be obtained at the nearest Gogoro-themed GoStation within 6 seconds. The operation of the GoStation is enhanced by cloud support for a seamless manner of getting available batteries.

The Gogoro partnership could be scaled up to cover other popular Chinese e-scooter brands and it is bound to expand, as it coincides with the official policy of Beijing to phase out gas and diesel-powered vehicles by 2025. Various incentives have been put in place to drive the policy for a sustainability-oriented transportation system in China in the years to come.
