Huawei is rolling out HarmonyOS 4.0 in China. Earlier this week, we covered the phones and tablets which are eligible for Huawei’s latest OS update. You can check out the complete list by clicking here. According to the latest reports that have emerged online, two of the flagships, the P60 and Mate 50, have received the stable HarmonyOS 4 update. Here are the improvements and features you can expect from the update.

HarmonyOS 4.0 new features

With this update, users will now be able to set their favorite emoji as wallpapers and choose the colors of their app icons to match the device’s layout. This OS will allow users to sort the notifications by priority and group them together. For instance, notifications from the same app will be grouped together, providing more details about each without the need to open them individually. Additionally, users can now quickly highlight and select text and images by double-clicking. Holding down will enable you to store these selections in the Super Transfer Station, allowing convenient temporary storage or sharing of multiple items simultaneously.

The OS will come with a Parental Control system allowing you to view the location of your child’s device with the help of Huawei ID. The privacy center allows you to refine application tracking activities for specific applications and disable tracking for specified applications.

Huawei set to launch HarmonyOS 4.0 on August 4th, officially confirmed

As expected, Huawei is all set to unveil its highly anticipated HarmonyOS 4.0 on August 4th at HDC.Together2023 (Huawei Developer Conference). The upcoming OS promises to offer a “Personalized, Super Fun, New Experience” for users. The update will bring major design changes and exciting new features, significantly upgrading the current version.

HarmonyOS, also known as HongMeng OS in Chinese, is Huawei’s in-house operating system developed since 2012 to reduce dependency on Android. The 2019 US government ban on Huawei’s access to Google services led to the realization of HarmonyOS, a microkernel-based OS designed for all Huawei devices, offering modularity and cross-functional capabilities across various Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Unlike competitors Google and Apple, Huawei aims for a unified operating system experience.

HarmonyOS 4.0 is expected to come with exciting new features and optimizations

HarmonyOS 4.0 is already undergoing beta testing, and initial impressions from users have been positive. The testing is currently limited to China, and it’s expected that the official launch will follow a similar trajectory. However, Huawei’s track record shows that the HarmonyOS system is friendly towards older devices, even providing updates for phones released five years ago, so we can expect extensive device support.

CEO Richard Yu hinted at exciting features for HarmonyOS 4.0, particularly for Huawei cars. The update will bring audio improvements, enabling multiple people, devices, screens, and audio zones in-car systems. It will also introduce six-zone sound source positioning, enhancing the overall in-car audio experience.

The user interface of HarmonyOS 4.0 will see significant enhancements with improved fluid animations and adjusted UI elements, providing a visually appealing and user-friendly experience for both smartphone and tablet users.

Additionally, there have been intriguing updates about the Huawei Mate 60 series. Some tipsters suggest that the series might adopt 5G networks again and incorporate a fresh “Dynamic Island” design. While the standard version of the Huawei Mate 60 series might retain a centered punch-hole front camera design, the “Dynamic Island” design is expected to be exclusive to models like the Huawei Mate 60 Pro.

The exact release date for the Mate 60 series is yet to be determined, but it is anticipated to be sometime between mid-September to mid-October, potentially offering users a premium smartphone experience with the latest technologies.

Huawei HarmonyOS 4.0 to launch this fall, executive director confirms

Huawei recently announced the launch of its latest Intelligent Automotive Solution, which includes the new Huawei ADS 2.0 featuring the industry’s first laser fusion GOD network and NCA smart driving navigation covering 90% of urban scenes, among other features. In addition, the company also confirmed that HarmonyOS 4.0 would launch in the fall of 2023.

HarmonyOS 4.0 is expected to achieve multi-person, multi-device, multi-screen, and multi-audio zones in the car system. It will also support six-audio zone sound source positioning, allowing concurrent control of multiple screens, multiple people, and multiple audio zones. Furthermore, the new version of the operating system will implement cabin eye position tracking and eye status recognition, along with support for multi-screen, multi-channel, and bi-directional streaming across screens and devices.

One notable improvement in HarmonyOS 4.0 is the upgraded voice of the intelligent cabin. The company has used its large-scale model training results to enhance the Xiao Yi voice, making it more intelligent and intuitive. In addition, the new operating system will also feature improved customer parking assistance and will be the first to support cross-surface and underground parking.

HarmonyOS 4.0 will be the latest addition to Huawei’s suite of intelligent automotive solutions, which includes the company’s Advanced Driving System (ADS), Intelligent Cockpit System (ICS), and 5G-V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) technology.
