Apple has been rumored to replace the physical buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro models with an Action Button. New code found in the latest iOS 17 beta adds weight to these rumors. According to the findings from 9to5Mac, iOS 17 beta 7 update includes new haptic feedback patterns for the rumored “Action Button”.

The new haptic feedback patterns make the iPhone vibrate more prominently when the user switches between silent and normal modes. This is especially useful for new phones with an Action Button, as it makes it easier to know which mode the phone is in.

More importantly, these patterns are triggered not only when the user activates the silent mode but also when it’s deactivated. In the earlier iOS version, there was only a brief haptic feedback when the iPhone was set to silent mode, but no feedback when it was taken off silent mode.

Interestingly, the 9to5Mac team was also able to replicate the haptic feedback for disabling silent mode, even though it’s not yet functional on existing iPhone models. They say it feels like a “single firm tap.”

Moreover, according to MacRumors, the new button that replaces the mute switch can also be assigned to a variety of actions, such as enabling or disabling Silent Mode, opening the Camera app, turning on the flashlight, triggering a Focus Mode, or recording a Voice Memo. Users can also create their own Siri Shortcuts to assign to the button.

It is also possible that there will be a new button in the Control Center for Silent Mode on the new iPhones. Additionally, Apple may add an indicator in the Status Bar to show when the phone is silenced.

We recently covered that the launch of the iPhone SE 4 is around two years away, and it will likely debut in the same year as the iPhone 16. For those who are unaware, the iPhone SE is a line of reasonably priced smartphones made by Apple. Earlier, it was noted that Apple could have halted its development as the company has been working on developing its own 5G modem. But despite all these rumors, some new leaks regarding the phone have emerged online.

According to Unknownz21, the iPhone SE 4 could look quite similar to iPhone 14, but it will still be a different device. Leaker has also mentioned that the device is rumored to come with an “Action Button”. Its function will slightly differ from the button introduced in earlier generations to put your phone in silent or ring mode. It is said that Apple is trying to allow users to bind the button to perform different actions like turning on a flashlight, taking a screenshot, and accessing shortcuts that users have created. The exact functionality of the button is still unknown, but from the looks of it, Apple thinks that this option will be handy for iPhone users.

Additionally, the iPhone SE 4 could have a USB-C port along with an OLED panel supplied by China-Based BOE. It might also get the Face ID security feature, which could mean that Apple might get rid of the fingerprint scanner on the SE 4. We hope that Apple will finally decide to feature a full HD display in the future iPhone SE series.

In related news, the launch of the iPhone 15 is just around the corner, and we are receiving more leaks and teasers about the phone, so stay tuned.

Apple is set to unveil the next-generation iPhone 15 series at a fall event in September. The upcoming lineup will arrive as the successors to the current generation iPhone 14 models. There have been plenty of leaks and rumors about the iPhone 15 series revealing dynamic islands on all models, bumped up batteries, the shift to USB-C port, and more. Now, a deep dive in to the fourth beta of iOS 17 code has revealed some interesting details. Read on to know more below.

iOS 17 code reveals action button options on the iPhone 15 Pro models

Apple has stuck to the traditional Mute switch for the past 16 years on the iPhone models. There have been speculations that the Cupertino-based tech giant might replace it with a custom button called the Action button. It is also found on the Apple Watch Ultra. Leaked cases for the iPhone 15 Pro Max have also revealed a smaller cutout for the button compared to the cutout for Mute switch.

The folks at MacRumors have found nine different use cases of the Action button in the fourth beta release of the iOS 17 code. Users will get the option to customize various actions. Check a list of the assignment options below:

• Quick access to accessibility features like VoiceOver, Assistive Touch, Zoom, and more
• Access to Shortcuts users have created
• Silent mode which will toggle all sounds off via a tap
• Launching the camera app and also enabling the user to take a photo/video with a single press
• Activate or Deactivate Focus mode
• Turn on or off the Flashlight
• Activate the Magnifier app
• Launch the Translate app and start a conversation or text translation with a single press
• Start or stop recording a voice memo

All the above nine functions will likely be trigged by tapping the Action button once. If the report indeed turns out to be true, it will be a helpful change compared to the Mute switch that otherwise limits usage. It also remains to be seen if Apple will introduce the Action button only for the Pro variants or make it available on non-pro versions as well.
