<p>A similarly quirky design is the LG Wing, the companies last major launch back in September before shutting down its smartphone division for good. The phone recently received the Android 11 update, which <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/12/18/lg-wing-android-11-rolls-out-as-likely-the-phones-final-update/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">could be its last</a>. However, recently an <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/LG-wing/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">LG Wing</a> user gave the phone a visual update showcasing how it would look without its wing display.</p>

<p><span data-preserver-spaces="true">As spotted by Mishaal Rahman and first reported by </span><a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.androidpolice.com/someone-just-turned-the-lg-wings-secondary-screen-into-a-standalone-phone/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><span data-preserver-spaces="true">Android Police</span></a><span data-preserver-spaces="true">, the user took to Bilibili (a Chinese video-sharing platform) to </span><a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1Ea411k7ue" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><span data-preserver-spaces="true">upload a video</span></a><span data-preserver-spaces="true"> of him dissecting the LG Wing and putting a display to the only front-facing part of the phone that didn&#8217;t have one.</span></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-432211" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/LG-Wing-mod-1024x575.png?x10805" alt="LG Wing mod" width="696" height="391" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/LG-Wing-mod-1024x575.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/LG-Wing-mod-300x168.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/LG-Wing-mod-768x431.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/LG-Wing-mod-696x391.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/LG-Wing-mod-1068x600.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/LG-Wing-mod-748x420.png 748w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/LG-Wing-mod.png 1072w" sizes="(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></p>
<p>The video does not capture the complete modding process but showcases the different stages of the build. The user effectively gets rid of the swerving display along with the bottom display. He then proceeds to assemble the logic board onto the new body, which used to be the support panel for the Wings. However, that&#8217;s not the only part that the modder harvested off of the LG Wing, as it can be noticed that the bottom module of this makeshift build appears to be soldered to the main body.</p>
<p>Now comes the main challenge of making the so-called &#8216;smartphone sandwich&#8217;: the assembly of the screen, the logic board, and the battery to the smartphone&#8217;s body. Here, the modder decides to go an innovative route and places the battery directly under the display—quite a unique design, also a fire hazard. But we doubt this prototype design will be mass-produced anytime soon.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-432212 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/LG-Wing-mod_2-e1640091804593.png?x10805" alt="LG Wing mod_2" width="451" height="431" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/LG-Wing-mod_2-e1640091804593.png 451w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/LG-Wing-mod_2-e1640091804593-300x287.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/LG-Wing-mod_2-e1640091804593-439x420.png 439w" sizes="(max-width: 451px) 100vw, 451px" /></p>
<p>The finished product is shown to have a working screen, a pop-up camera module, working side buttons, and a custom LED strip. This build&#8217;s general smartphone functionalities are still questionable, but the mod does carry the spirit of LG phone&#8217;s crazy unique designs.</p>
