Huawei has been helping countries around the world affected by the coronavirus outbreak by donating necessary aids for the past few weeks. The new country added to this increasing list is the Netherlands, which has so far received 200,000 masks from the Chiese telecom giant out of 800,000 proposed units.

Huawei Donates 800000 Masks to the Netherlands

Ever since the US Government imposed a ban on Huawei, Huawei has been utilizing every possible opportunity to win the hearts of the countries where they are present. As COVID-19 is taking over the world, they have been donating necessary aids like masks to the severely affected regions over the course of the last few weeks.

This time around, the Chinese smartphone maker has planned to donate a total of 800,000 FFP2 masks to the Netherlands. The first batch of 200,000 masks has already reached the country by air on Sunday, March 22nd. The masks (over million in numbers) donated by different companies are being incorporated in a single place from where they are being supplied to hospitals, home care organizations, nursing homes, mental health and mental health institutions, disability care organizations and other care institutions based on requirements.

Huawei has been busy sending out aid whenever possible amidst the global pandemic especially to the European countries where they have a long history of partnership in establishing mobile networks and selling phones.

Medical masks are the most sought out product in China right now. And these masks are in very short supply across the country. So much so that Chinese citizens are flooding retailers, both online and offline, to get hold of a packet. Earlier today, when the Xiaomi Youpin website started selling a fresh batch of medical masks, they received so much traffic that the website crashed.

The new batch of medical masks went on sale at 4 PM on the Xiaomi Youpin website today. Due to the excessive demand for the product, the website decided to limit just one packet per user. A packet contains 20 masks and costs 39.9 yuan (~$5.75). It was further discounted for users from the Hubei province, who are at the center of the outbreak.

However, when the sale went live today, the website received so much traffic that it went down temporarily. Xiaomi Youpin published a statement confirming the downtime and apologized for the same. The online retailer explained that the traffic on its website at the time of sale was beyond their imagination and the server wasn’t capable of handling the kind of traffic it experienced today.

Xiaomi Youpin also promised to bring a fresh batch of medical masks on its website as soon as the new stock arrives.
