An update with firmware version 4.1.20 is rolling out to the users. This has a lot of features like smart DND, Vibration adjustments, gesture options, and more. You can look at the changelog(Google translated from Spanish) below:

Add Smart ‘Do Not Disturb’

Add Vibration mode settings

Add wrist sensitivity settings for ‘Lift to Wake’

Add mute buttons for incoming calls(on Android)

Add Bluetooth disconnection reminder

Bug fixes

Improved System stability

As reported by OneTech, this update brings the Automatic DND(Do Not Disturb) functionality. After this, users won’t have to adjust it manually every night as the Mi Watch Lite will go into DND mode once it detects that we are asleep.

Further, the update also fine tweaks the lift to wake functionality and brings more vibration mode settings. One of the annoying things that every fitness enthusiast or any casual smartwatch user experiences is the abrupt Bluetooth disconnections.

Xiaomi has found a solution for this as the new update will notify the user on his/her device when his watch is disconnected so that he can be aware of it. Apart from this, the update includes a mute switch for calls, bug fixes, and other system stability.

If you are a user of the Mi Watch Lite, you can get it updated to the latest firmware using the Xiaomi Wear app. However, if you haven’t bought one for yourself yet, you can use our Giztop and get a $20 discount.

To make you clear, two smartwatches got certified a while ago on Bluetooth SIG.

One of them had the same model number with ‘REDMI’ on it but ‘Mi Watch Lite‘ moniker. Later, it turned out to be the Mi Watch Lite for Global markets. Hence, there is a possibility that Xiaomi might bring this version and not the Chinese variant to India.

Xiaomi might soon launch its Mi Watch Lite in India, receives the Indian BIS certification.#Xiaomi #MiWatchLite pic.twitter.com/C0UCH8wXNp

— Mukul Sharma (@stufflistings) January 21, 2021

We also have a few reasons to believe this. The Mi Watch Lite primarily differs from Redmi Watch in sports modes, GPS, AI Assistant, NFC, and battery life. That is, the Mi Watch Lite has 11 sport modes(4 more than Redmi Watch), built-in GPS+GLONASS(absent on Redmi Watch).

However, it lacks features like NFC, a built-in AI assistant, microphone that are present on the Redmi Watch. Redmi launched its first Smartwatch as the Redmi Watch back in November in China. Despite sporting the same battery(230mAh), it has lesser battery life than Mi Watch Lite(7 days vs 9 days).

All this suggests that Xiaomi might bring the more sensible version to India but we do not know if it will come under Xiaomi/Redmi branding yet. Either way, the Smartwatch will likely feature a 1.4-inch 320x320p display with 323 PPI, 2.5D curved glass.

It has over 120 watch faces, Heartrate and Sleep monitoring, 5ATM Water resistance, Bluetooth 5.0 BLE(Low-Energy), Six-Axis Motion and Ambient Light sensors, Barometer and is available in Ivory, Black, Navy Blue colors.

Let’s wait to see how Xiaomi prices this in India but it is already available at $60/CNY299 in Global/China respectively.

Mi Watch

The Mi Watch sold in Spain is not the same Mi Watch sold in China. They only share the same name. Neither is it the Mi Watch Revolve sold in India. Actually, this is the international version of the Mi Watch Color Sports Edition that has a SpO2 sensor. The spec sheet says its model number is XMWTCL02.

The smartwatch has a 1.39-inch AMOLED screen with a 454 x 454 resolution. Users will be able to choose from more than 100 watch faces that match their style or mood for the day.

The Mi Watch has support for 117 sport modes (17 professional training modes and 100 extended training modes). With the FirstBeat algorithm, Xiaomi says the smartwatch can accurately monitor and analyze more than 30 key data points including heart rate, speed, and calories burned. It also has automatic training detection and will stop when you do.

Alongside hear rate monitoring and sleep tracking, the watch also monitors vital signs, stress, and has a built-in breathing training exercise to help you quickly relieve physical and mental stress. Xiaomi has also added a SpO2 sensor that measures your blood oxygen level.

The watch has 5 ATM water-resistance, GPS GLONASS, Galileo, and BDS. Its 420mAh battery will provide 16 days of battery life in typical usage mode, go up to 22 days in basic watch mode, and drop to 50 hours for training mode (GPS turned on).

The Mi Watch comes in Beige, Black, and Navy. It is priced at €129.99 but for a limited (ends in 8 hours as at the time of writing), the watch can be purchased for just €99.99 on the official Xiaomi Spain website.

Mi Watch Lite

The Mi Watch Lite has an identical appearance to the Redmi Watch sold in China. However, it packs more features and has a higher price tag.

The smartwatch has a 1.4-inch display and more than 120 watch faces. It can track up to 11 sports modes including cricket and hiking and it has built-in GPS and GLONASS for positional tracking. It also has a 5 ATM water resistance rating.

You get heart rate monitoring, sleep monitoring, and a breathing exercise trainer but it misses out on the SpO2 sensor of the Mi Watch. The watch has support for music playback control (when connected to your phone), app notifications (with support for emojis), and it will also alert you if you have been inactive for a while. Its battery will provide up to 9 days of usage in typical mode and 10 hours for training mode (with GPS turned on).

The Mi Watch Lite comes in Beige, Black, and Blue. Unlike its sibling, there is no limited time discount for its €59.90 price tag when you purchase it on the official website.

AirPods go max!

Apple launched its first pair of premium over-the-ear headphones under the AirPods line. The AirPods Max, as it is called, has an interesting design that makes it stand out from the plethora of headphones in the market. It has noise cancellation, spatial audio, support for Siri, a 20-hour battery life, and isn’t cheap with its $549 price tag.

OPPO’s Reno series enters 5th gen in under 2 years

OPPO announced the Reno5 series last week. It is surprising we are already on the 5th gen considering that the Reno line made its debut last year. The Reno5 and Reno5 Pro have a slightly refreshed design, improved cameras, slightly bigger batteries, and run Android 11 out of the box. A third mode, the Reno5 Pro+ with a Snapdragon 865 processor will launch later this month.

Their watch starts now

Two new smartwatches were announced last week. The Mi Watch Lite arrived first with a striking resemblance to the Redmi Watch but with more sports modes, GPS, and longer battery life. boAt, the Indian company which climbed to the 5th spot on IDC’s list of largest wearable brands in Q3 2020, also announced its latest offering, the Enigma. It supports fewer sports modes than the Mi Watch Lite but has a SpO2 sensor and a cheaper price tag.

Huawei enters the desktop PC business

Huawei announced its first desktop computer, the MateStation B515, last week. The computer is powered by an AMD processor and comes with a 23.8-inch monitor, a mouse, and a keyboard with a built-in fingerprint scanner.

The key differences between the two watches are sports modes, GPS, AI Assistant, NFC, battery life, and price.

Sports Modes

This is a key difference between both watches. The Redmi Watch supports just 7 sports modes whereas the Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite supports all seven of the Redmi Watch’s sports modes and adds four more – open water swimming, trekking, trail running, and cricket. Xiaomi did say that cricket mode will be added through an OTA upgrade, so out of the box, the Mi Watch Lite supports just 10 sports modes.

GPS

This is another major difference between the two watches. The Redmi Watch doesn’t have built-in GPS which means if you go for an outdoor run or cycle, you have to connect it to your phone to use GPS. The Mi Watch Lite, on the other hand, has GPS+GLONASS for positioning, so you don’t have to connect it to your phone to track your trajectory.

EDITOR’S PICK: Battle for Your Wrist: Amazfit Bip U or Redmi Watch, which should you buy?

AI Assistant and NFC

The Redmi Watch has both an AI Assistant and NFC. The assistant is Xiaomi’s XiaoAI and with the built-in microphone, users can ask it questions, set alarms, and use it to control compatible smart home appliances. It also has NFC for payments.

The Mi Watch Lite doesn’t have a built-in assistant which is why there is no microphone. It also does not have NFC, so there is no support for contactless payment.

Battery Life

Both watches have the same 230mAh battery capacity but the Redmi Watch has a lesser battery life – 7 days compared to the Mi Watch Lite whose battery life goes up to 9 days on a single charge.

Price

The Redmi Watch is officially sold for ¥299 (~$45) but third-party resellers sell it for a bit more. While Xiaomi is yet to reveal the price tag of the Mi Watch Lite, it is already on sale by retailers and can be gotten for even $58.90 on Giztop.

Conclusion

The Mi Watch Lite definitely has more to offer, at least for international buyers who won’t find a use for the Redmi Watch’s XiaoAI assistant and NFC payment support. The Mi Watch Lite has more sports modes, GPS, a slightly better battery life, and supports more languages but all of these come with a more expensive price tag. Nevertheless, it is the logical choice for any international buyer.

On a side note, we believe the Mi Watch Lite may launch in China as a sort of Redmi Watch Pro that has GPS and more sports modes. The reason is the model number which shows it is clearly a Redmi product that has been rebadged as a Mi product for international markets, so a local release is definitely possible. However, it should come with certain additional features such as NFC and the XiaoAI assistant, and a higher price tag than the standard model.

The device, which has already passed through the FCC certification process, is expected to be a rebranded model of the Redmi Watch.

Our sources have now revealed that the Mi Watch Lite will get launched tomorrow, i.e. on 10th December. As for the pricing, the smartwatch will be priced under $60 but is likely to be around $50.

In terms of specifications, we expect the company to retain almost the same set of specs as the recently launched Redmi Watch. However, it remains to be seen if the upcoming Mi Watch Lite also supports NFC connectivity.

To recall, the Redmi Watch features a 1.4-inch square display with 2.5D curved glass that offers a pixel density of 323PPI. It comes with support for more than 20 custom dials, including classic simplicity, cool IP, independent design, and more.

There’s also XiaoAI voice assistant but the Mi Watch Lite being a global variant, is unlikely to have support for Xiaomi’s own voice assistant. But the device is rated 5ATM to ensure that it is waterproof.

As for the health and fitness-related features, the Redmi Watch has a built-in high-precision six-axis sensor with a motion algorithm. It also has features like 24-hr heart rate tracking, sleep tracking, and sedentary monitoring.

While the battery capacity remains unknown, the company has promised a week of usage with a single charge. Reports indicate that the Mi Watch Lite packs a 230mAh battery with support for 5W charging.

The Redmi Watch is priced at 299 yuan in China, which is roughly $45.47. The upcoming Mi Watch Lite should be priced a bit higher and we expect it to go on sale soon after getting launched. To know for sure, we will have to wait for a few more hours.
