<p>Fans seeking an off-road adventure with their <a href="http://gizmochina.com/category/tesla">Tesla</a> vehicles have been looking for new options. Until recently, Germany&#8217;s Delta4x4 had cornered the market with its <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/tesla-model-y">Tesla Model Y</a> lift kit. However, a new contender from China, Pu.Labo, is challenging that kit, promising even more height and features for the Tesla EV.</p>

<h3>This kit offers yet another option for Tesla owners to upgrade their cars</h3>

<p>Delta4x4&#8217;s offering is pretty straightforward. Priced around $1,000, it provides a lift of up to three inches thanks to a 1.3-inch spacer kit and bigger tires. It’s a modest upgrade aimed at those who want a bit more room to navigate rough terrains.</p>

<p>On the other hand, Pu.Labo is going all out. Made in Shanghai, their $15,000 lift kit (with a promotional price of $12,000) not only lifts the Tesla Model Y or <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/tesla-model-3">Model 3 </a>by up to five inches, but it also includes redesigned control arms and adjustable coil-over shocks. Plus, it maximizes wheel travel to eight inches. The kit has been tested under various harsh conditions, including mud and sand, confirming its off-road capability.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/pu.labo-lift-kit-for-the-tesla-model-3-and-model-y-1024x576.jpg?x10805" alt="Tesla" class="wp-image-574367" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/pu.labo-lift-kit-for-the-tesla-model-3-and-model-y-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/pu.labo-lift-kit-for-the-tesla-model-3-and-model-y-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/pu.labo-lift-kit-for-the-tesla-model-3-and-model-y-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/pu.labo-lift-kit-for-the-tesla-model-3-and-model-y-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/pu.labo-lift-kit-for-the-tesla-model-3-and-model-y-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/pu.labo-lift-kit-for-the-tesla-model-3-and-model-y-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/pu.labo-lift-kit-for-the-tesla-model-3-and-model-y-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/pu.labo-lift-kit-for-the-tesla-model-3-and-model-y.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Now, the price difference is noticeable. Delta4x4’s kit is accessible, but Pu.Labo&#8217;s cost is in the same ballpark as a used car. Yet, Pu.Labo argues that you get what you pay for, offering a comprehensive set of features that make your Tesla a more robust off-roading machine.</p>

<p>So, what does this competition mean for Tesla owners? Simply put, options. Those who just want a bit of an upgrade can stick with Delta4x4. For the off-road enthusiasts who want to push their Teslas to the limit, Pu.Labo’s kit may well be the right investment.</p>

<p>As Tesla vehicles continue to dominate the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/electric-cars">electric car</a> market, third-party innovations like these signify that the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/ev">EV</a> revolution isn&#8217;t just about getting from point A to B — it&#8217;s also about how much fun you can have along the way.</p>

<p>What are your thoughts? Is Pu.Labo’s steeper price justified for the features it offers? Let us know in the comments below.</p>

<p>Researchers from Germany have successfully performed a &#8216;<a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/jailbreak">jailbreak</a>&#8216; on a <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/tesla-model-3">Tesla Model 3</a>, thereby gaining free access to in-car features normally reserved for paid upgrades. The white hat hackers, three of whom are students at Technische Universität Berlin, utilized a unique hardware manipulation technique to bypass the vehicle&#8217;s in-built security measures.</p>

<h3>The researchers managed to extract the encryption key that authenticated the car to Tesla&#8217;s network</h3>

<p>Christian Werling, one of the students involved, explained that this approach could be beneficial for owners unwilling to pay additional fees for upgrades already incorporated into their vehicle, such as heated rear seats. He stated, &#8220;We&#8217;re not the evil outsider; we own the car. And we don&#8217;t want to pay these $300 bucks for the rear heated seats.&#8221; This intriguing revelation suggests a shift in traditional perspectives on &#8216;jailbreaking&#8217;.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="558" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/tesla-long-range-model-3-orders-1-2048x1115-1-1024x558.jpeg?x10805" alt="Tesla Model 3" class="wp-image-555610" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/tesla-long-range-model-3-orders-1-2048x1115-1-1024x558.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/tesla-long-range-model-3-orders-1-2048x1115-1-300x163.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/tesla-long-range-model-3-orders-1-2048x1115-1-768x418.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/tesla-long-range-model-3-orders-1-2048x1115-1-1536x836.jpeg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/tesla-long-range-model-3-orders-1-2048x1115-1-696x379.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/tesla-long-range-model-3-orders-1-2048x1115-1-1068x581.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/tesla-long-range-model-3-orders-1-2048x1115-1-1920x1045.jpeg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/tesla-long-range-model-3-orders-1-2048x1115-1-771x420.jpeg 771w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/tesla-long-range-model-3-orders-1-2048x1115-1.jpeg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The team achieved this feat using a technique known as &#8220;voltage glitching,&#8221; manipulating the supply voltage of the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/amd">AMD</a> processor running the infotainment system. The strategic timing of this process causes the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/cpu">CPU</a> to &#8216;hiccup&#8217;, skipping an instruction, thereby accepting manipulated code.</p>

<p>In addition to unlocking features, the researchers were able to extract the encryption key authenticating the car to Tesla&#8217;s network. This extraction facilitated access to sensitive personal data including contact details, call logs, calendar appointments, location history, Wi-Fi passwords, and email session tokens. While this vulnerability could be exploited, the team maintains that their research is exploratory, not malicious.</p>

<p>The researchers have cautioned that Tesla&#8217;s only defense against this hardware-based attack is a complete hardware replacement. As they prepare to present their research at the upcoming Black Hat cybersecurity conference in Las Vegas, their groundbreaking discovery might pose significant implications for vehicle cybersecurity and the &#8216;right-to-repair&#8217; debate.</p>

The ad was related to the driving range of its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/tesla-model-3/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Model 3</a> electric vehicle. However, South Korean antitrust regulator apparently discovered that the company made exaggerated claims in the ad, which prompted it to make the changes.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-403703 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Tesla-Model-3-1154415.jpg?x10805" alt="Tesla" width="590" height="350" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Tesla-Model-3-1154415.jpg 590w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Tesla-Model-3-1154415-300x178.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 590px) 100vw, 590px" /></p>
<p>For those unaware, the American automobile manufacturer had advertised the Model 3 sedan on its official South Korean website with a range of &#8220;more than&#8221; 528 kilometers. But now, the EV maker has changed the description to show that the vehicle &#8220;maximum range&#8221; of 528 kilometers on a single full charge. Earlier this week, the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) had sent a report to Tesla, in which it stated that the company had exaggerated the mileage of some of its models.</p>
<p>In other words, the report said that the Model 3 was in violation of the Act of Fair Labeling and Advertising. Furthermore, analysts also added that most electric vehicles would also see lose in driving range in cold weather as well. According to a commission official speaking to <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/tesla-changes-skorea-ads-after-antitrust-probe-faulted-batteries-2022-02-18/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Reuters</em> </a>&#8220;The KFTC plans to give the automaker the opportunity to respond to our finding and then hold a general meeting to review and determine the extent to which the automaker has violated the law and decide the level of sanctions.&#8221;</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-234825 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/tesla-logo-3d-model-low-poly-obj-3ds-stl-blend-dae-mtl.jpg?x10805" alt="Tesla" width="1280" height="720" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/tesla-logo-3d-model-low-poly-obj-3ds-stl-blend-dae-mtl.jpg 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/tesla-logo-3d-model-low-poly-obj-3ds-stl-blend-dae-mtl-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/tesla-logo-3d-model-low-poly-obj-3ds-stl-blend-dae-mtl-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/tesla-logo-3d-model-low-poly-obj-3ds-stl-blend-dae-mtl-1024x576.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></p>
<p>So now, the South Korean website is in line with Tesla&#8217;s official US website, which reads &#8220;Go anywhere with &#8220;up to&#8221; 358 miles of estimated range on a single charge.&#8221; 358 miles equates to around 576 kilometers. Despite facing the antitrust probe, analysts believe that the company&#8217;s performance in the market would likely not be impacted by this.</p>

The company&#8217;s official <a href="https://www.tesla.cn/modely/design#overview" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Chinese website</a> has revealed that the pricing for the rear wheel drive variant of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/tesla-model-3/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Model 3</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/tesla-model-y/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Model Y</a> has been increased.</p>
<p>Looking at the reformed prices, the Model 3&#8217;s rear wheel drive variant now costs around 265,652 Yuan (roughly 42,000 US Dollars), which marks an increase of 10,000 Yuan (roughly 1,575 US Dollars) over the original price. On the other hand, the price of the rear wheel drive version of the Model Y has also been raised to 301,840 Yuan (roughly 47,560 US Dollars), which is around 21,000 Yuan (roughly 3,320 US Dollars) higher than the previous price tag.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-434378 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Screenshot-2021-12-31-163912.png?x10805" alt="Tesla" width="1246" height="810" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Screenshot-2021-12-31-163912.png 1246w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Screenshot-2021-12-31-163912-300x195.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Screenshot-2021-12-31-163912-768x499.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Screenshot-2021-12-31-163912-1024x666.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Screenshot-2021-12-31-163912-696x452.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Screenshot-2021-12-31-163912-1068x694.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Screenshot-2021-12-31-163912-646x420.png 646w" sizes="(max-width: 1246px) 100vw, 1246px" /></p>
<p>For those unaware, the rear wheel drive versions are also the base variant of both EV models. Talking about the Model Y, it offers a 545 kilometer range on a single full charge and has a top speed of 217 km/h. It can even accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds. On the other hand, the American automobile giant&#8217;s Model 3 offers a top speed of 225 km/h, with a maximum range of 556 kilometers on a single full charge. It can go 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.1 seconds.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, the official reason for the price hike is unknown as of right now. Although, it might be due to the ongoing chip shortage issue that has impacted various industries across the globe, including automobiles. Rising chip costs due to the growing demand for semiconductors have caused chipmakers to raise the prices as well. Other materials and parts shortages or components supply constraints might also be a factor. However, this is just speculation at the moment so take it with a pinch of salt.</p>

<p>According to a <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-india-tesla-minister-exclusive/exclusive-india-woos-tesla-with-offer-of-cheaper-production-costs-than-china-idUSKBN2AU1AY" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Reuters</em> </a>report, Nitin Gadkari, Transport Minister of India, revealed the pitch to the popular electric automaker earlier this week. Furthermore, the move from the government arrives weeks after <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/13/tesla-register-indian-unit-before-launch-in-country/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Tesla registered a company in India</a>. This marks the automobile maker&#8217;s entry into the market, which might be as soon as mid 2021. As per sources close to the matter, the brand aims to start by importing and selling its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/tesmla-model-3/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Model 3</a> electric sedan in the Southeast Asian nation.</p>
<p>Gadkari said that &#8220;The government will make sure the production cost for Tesla will be the lowest when compared with the world, even China, when they start manufacturing their cars in India. We will assure that.&#8221; At the moment, the local government is willing to offer such incentives in a bid to strengthen its local manufacturing of electric vehicles, batteries, and other components to cut costs of imports and even help curb pollution in major cities as well.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-234825 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/tesla-logo-3d-model-low-poly-obj-3ds-stl-blend-dae-mtl.jpg?x10805" alt="tesla logo" width="1280" height="720" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/tesla-logo-3d-model-low-poly-obj-3ds-stl-blend-dae-mtl.jpg 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/tesla-logo-3d-model-low-poly-obj-3ds-stl-blend-dae-mtl-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/tesla-logo-3d-model-low-poly-obj-3ds-stl-blend-dae-mtl-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/tesla-logo-3d-model-low-poly-obj-3ds-stl-blend-dae-mtl-1024x576.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></p>
<p>Notably, Tesla&#8217;s entry into the Indian market also arrives as various carmakers are moving forward with EV production due to sudden growth and demand of such vehicles, which can help reduce the overall carbon emissions. Currently, India has yet to secure local production from the company, which has also yet to comment on its plans for stepping in to the Indian market.</p>

This was proven recently when a woman who perhaps didn&#8217;t realize Teslas have self-driving capabilities was caught on tape chasing one down the parking lot thinking it was rolling away, obviously trying to help out.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Tesla-summon-woman-running-runaway-car.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-372895" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Tesla-summon-woman-running-runaway-car.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="1500" height="751" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Tesla-summon-woman-running-runaway-car.jpg 1500w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Tesla-summon-woman-running-runaway-car-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Tesla-summon-woman-running-runaway-car-768x385.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Tesla-summon-woman-running-runaway-car-1024x513.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Tesla-summon-woman-running-runaway-car-696x348.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Tesla-summon-woman-running-runaway-car-1068x535.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Tesla-summon-woman-running-runaway-car-839x420.jpg 839w" sizes="(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px" /></a></p>
<p>The video was captured by Tesla&#8217;s Sentry Mode onboard the Model 3. In case you don&#8217;t know, the Sentry Mode is a surveillance system integrated into the vehicles Autopilot cameras which can help capture incidents such as potential vandalism and others. The feature is actually a response to a spate of car vandalism targeted at Tesla owners in San Francisco&#8217;s Bay Area. The owner will have to plug in a storage device in any of the USB ports in the center console and footages both from the surveillance camera and dashcam will be stored there.</p>
<p>The footage which was shared by the Model 3 owner in Pennsylvania shows the woman jumping out of her own SUV and dashing after the Model 3 in a bid to stop the car from rolling. The owner even disclosed that the woman even attempted to stop it by putting her weight on the front left pillar but that wasn&#8217;t captured in the video.</p>

<p>The truth is the Smart Summon is a relatively new feature released by Tesla in September 2019 and so not many people may have seen it working. It allows owners to summon their Tesla cars from a maximum distance of 200 feet and as long as the car is within their line of sight, even in a difficult parking zone. The feature builds on the &#8220;Summon&#8221; which allows the car to only move a few feet in their driveway or from a tight parking space where there isn&#8217;t enough room for the owner to get inside the car.</p>
<p>Tesla is even planning to take things a step further by releasing a “reverse summon” which will give owners the leverage to disembark from the car at an entrance and have the car find a parking spot autonomously.</p>
