Moto Edge X30 to launch in India soon, receives BIS certification

Motorola is gearing up to launch its flagship smartphones in India soon. The company had launched the Moto Edge X30 in China back in December 2021 and a new certification listing has hinted at its imminent launch in India as well.

While the initial launch date in India for the Edge X30 wasn’t officially announced, a previous report had hinted at a late January or an early February release. Now, the device has just been spotted on the BIS certification database with the model number XT2201-01 (Via 91Mobiles). In other words, the launch of the Edge X30 in India might be just around the corner.

Although the device was spotted in the certification listing, it did not reveal any finer details regarding the model that is launching in India. But, we do know the key specs from the initial Chinese launch last month. The Moto Edge X30 sports a 6.7 inch OLED FHD+ display with a 144Hz refresh rate and a 576Hz touch sampling rate. The screen also offers 100 percent DCI P3 colour gamut, HDR10+, a punch hole cutout, and an in display fingerprint sensor as well. On the rear, it housed a 50 megapixel triple camera setup.

Meanwhile, the front featured a 60 megapixel selfie shooter. Under the hood, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 runs the device, which is powered by a large 5,000mAh battery pack. It houses up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, so it remains to be seen what variants will be available in India. A couple of years back, the Motorola brand was in a severe financial mess as a result of a lull in smartphone sales. The company was eventually acquired by Lenovo who tried to turn around the fortunes of the once-beloved brand. The Lenovo-owned company has seen a change in its fortunes in recent times and it is no surprise that the brand is putting efforts at deepening its market presence. That it has done with the unveiling, today, of the Moto Edge X30 flagship smartphone.

The Moto Edge X30 arrives as the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-powered smartphone. It comes alongside the Snapdragon 888-powered Moto Edge S30. Both smartphones are indeed set to go on sale before the year’s end! Isn’t that awesome? According to the brand, the Moto Edge X30 and Edge S30 will be on pre-order from tonight and will go on sale for the first time at 10:00 AM on December 15th.

Motorola Moto Edge X30 Specifications & Features

No doubt, the major highlight of the Moto Edge X30 is the new generation of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. The chipset uses Samsung’s 4nm process and the CPU is made up of a Cortex-X2 super core with a clock frequency of 3.0GHz, three Cortex-A710 cores clocked at frequency 2.5GHz each, and four Cortex-A510 cores, each clocked at 1.8GHz.

The new processor brings about a 20% increase in performance compared to the previous generation CPU. Energy consumption is also reduced by up to 30%, GPU performance is increased by 30%, energy consumption has been reduced by 25%, while the AI performance is four times that of the Snapdragon 888 series. The device was able to record an AnTuTu benchmark score of 1061361, making it the number one Android smartphone presently.

In terms of battery life, the Edge X30 has a built-in 5000mAh super-capacity battery, and it also supports 68W fast charging, which can replenish 50% of the battery in just 13 minutes.

For photography, the flagship Moto packs a triple camera setup at the ear aspects. The camera setup at the rear includes a 50MP wide-angle main camera, teaming up with a 50MP super wide-angle macro main camera and a 2MP depth-of-field sensor. For selfies, there is a 60MP front shooter. One of the main rear cameras is the OV50A sensor, which has a 1/55-inch ultra-large bottom and supports OIS optical image stabilization.

In terms of the display, the Moto Edge X30 comes in two versions. One is the regular version which uses a center-punched 1 billion color ultra-sensitive color screen that supports a 144Hz high refresh rate and up to 576Hz touch sampling rate. It also supports Dolby surround sound dual speakers, which can provide a very good audiovisual and gaming experience.

The second display version is the Under-screen Proactive version. This version is touted to have the strongest under-screen camera solution in the industry with its 60MP front sensor which can take into account both the display effect and the Selfie effect.

For interface, the Moto Edge X30 runs on MYUI 3.0 based on the Android 12 operating system, bringing an entirely new UI visual interface.

As for the pricing, the Moto Edge X30 standard version starts at 3,199 yuan (~$501) but there is a full-line discount of 200 yuan bringing the starting price to 2999 yuan ($470) for the base variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. Here are the entire prices.

Motorola is expected to officially unveil the Moto Edge 30X which will likely launch in the US as Moto Edge 30 Ultra on December 9. The Moto Edge 30X is Motorola’s next flagship offering and will reportedly run on the Android 12 operating system out of the box.

Ahead of the launch, some camera samples with the watermarks showing they were captured by the flagship have been shared by the company online. The samples were captured at night and show the device’s camera will have a spectacular night mode with clarity of details.

Speaking of the camera, a Weibo tipster recently added some key details of Motorola’s Moto Edge 30X including the camera details. The leak shows the device will sport a triple rear camera setup with a 50MP main unit and a 50MP ultra-wide sensor, alongside a 2MP depth module. The selfie camera of the Moto Edge 30 Ultra will have a 60MP resolution. The rear and front cameras of the device have an impressive low-light capability, as shown in the stunning images released by the company.

The Moto Edge 30 Ultra will be powered by a 5,000mAh battery with 68W fast charging support. Although the phone had been spotted on Geekbench 4, the more definitive Geekbench 5 result will be more reliable. The Moto Edge 30 Ultra will probably run on Android 12 pre-installed, which could be a milestone – it will be the first non-Google smartphone to sport the latest Android version pre-installed. However, the race for the Android 12 milestone is still heated and Xiaomi may pip Motorola in this light.

The Moto Edge 30 Ultra comes well-kitted for its flagship tag. It will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, with several other impressive features including a 6.7-inch OLED screen with a 144Hz refresh rate. Pricing and global availability details will likely surface soon as we get closer to the December 9 launch.
