The Motorola Defy Satellite Link accessory is now available in the US. The product was announced back in February and connects to an iPhone or Android device via Bluetooth to give satellite connectivity.

The Motorola Defy Satellite Link extends compatibility to non-Motorola smartphones which is good for its versatility. Apple unveiled its Emergency SOS via Satellite service last year for the iPhone 14 lineup. The Motorola Defy Satellite Link is however less restrictive than the Apple satellite service. The accessory is also not only for emergencies but offers multiple plans to choose from.

The Defy Satellite Link comes bundled with the Essential Messaging plan the offers up to 30 two-way messages sent via satellite every month. There are other plans with the top one offering up to 400 messages each month.

The Defy Satellite Link is rated MIL-SPEC-810H and IP68 for drop, water, and dust protection. It can withstand being submerged in up to 1.5m of water for up to 30 minutes. It can also withstand falls up to 2m onto hard surfaces without being damaged. The Defy Satellite Link weighs 70g and has dimensions of 85 x 62 x 11.2mm. It uses GPS, Glonass, Galileo, and Beidou while a 600mAh battery delivers up to 4 days of standby.

The price of the Motorola Defy Satellite Link in the US is $149.99 and is currently exclusively available at B&H. It is expected that the Defy Satellite Link will subsequently be available in a few other markets in Europe and elsewhere.

Lenovo-owned Motorola has launched a new rugged smartphone. It is dubbed the Defy 2 and arrives as the successor to the Defy 2021. Additionally, Bullitt Group, a British mobile manufacturer and Motorola Mobility has also released a Defy Satellite Link that is a Bluetooth device. Read on to know more about the two devices below. 

The Motorola Defy 2 is a rugged phone with IP68 and IP69K-certified dust, sand, dirt, and waterproof resistance. It has passed MIL-STD810H tests for withstanding tough environments. The device has been designed to survive drops and falls and also repeated drops onto a steel plate. The smartphone also features Bullitt’s Hygiene+ technology meaning it can be cleaned and sanitised with soap and water or alcohol wipes. 

The Motorola Defy 2 comes with a 6.6-inch FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a waterdrop notch. It has an 8MP front-facing snapper and a triple rear camera setup of a 50MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2MP macro unit. 

Under the hood, the Motorola Defy 2 is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 930 octa-core processor coupled with 6GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage expandable via a microSD card slot. The device draws its power from a 5,000mAh battery unit with support for 15W wired charging and Qi-wireless charging. It runs on Android 12 OS with two years of future OS and five years of security updates. 

Coming to the Motorola Defy Satellite Link, it is a Bluetooth accessory offering satellite connectivity. The device features a handy attachment loop with physical SOS and location check-in buttons. It has also passed MIL-Spec 810H testing and is waterproof and dustproof with an IP68 rating. The accessory offers two-way messaging over satellite. Any messages sent or received will be deducted from the satellite messaging subscriber’s plan at no cost. The Motorola Defy 2 and Defy Satellite Link use the first 3GPP standards-based satellite NTN (direct-to-device) service, providing affordable and continuous coverage internationally over existing infrastructure. 

The Motorola Defy 2 is priced at $599 including 12 months of SOS Assist. The Defy Satellite Link cost $99. The former will be available from Q2, 2023 from select operators across North America, Latin America, and Canada. The Defy Satellite can be purchased from April.
