<p>First spotted and <a href="https://www.voice.com/post/@nils/motorola-nio-live-images-1610707096-382738934">reported</a> by Nils Ahrensmeier(@NilsAhrDE), the live images of a Motorola device has appeared on Weibo a few days ago. This device has a dual punch-hole screen at the front, and a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/07/the-e349-moto-g-5g-plus-has-a-90hz-display-48mp-quad-cameras-and-a-5000mah-battery/">Moto G 5G Plus</a>-like quad-camera layout on the back. However, the position of Flash is below the cameras here.</p>
<p>Further, the rear of the device seems to have a color that the tipster says is the &#8216;Sky&#8217; variant. Apart from this, the device will also have a &#8220;Beryl&#8221; which could be a Green/Blue color. On the back, there is a &#8220;64MP camera&#8221; and &#8220;Audio Zoom&#8221; keywords. On the right, there are volume buttons and power-cum-fingerprint senor button.</p>
<p>The settings on the front image shows it as &#8220;Motorola Edge Plus&#8221; which means this could just be a prototype. That said, the display on this live image is also similar to a front render of Motorola &#8220;Nio&#8221; with a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/04/motorola-nio-leaked-image-appears-to-reveal-front-design/">dual punch-hole screen</a> leaked a few days ago.</p>

<p>For those who don&#8217;t know, a Motorola smartphone codenamed &#8220;Nio&#8221; and Model number XT2125 has already cleared multiple certifications. So far, we know that a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/15/motorola-nio-xt2125-wifi-certification/">Wi-Fi alliance certification</a> revealing support for Wi-Fi (2.4, 5GHz), and run <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-11">Android 11</a>.</p>
<p>Similarly, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/12/motorola-nios-fcc-and-tuv-certifications-reveal-key-details-launch-seems-near/">FCC and TUV showed</a> that the device will have 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth, NFC, and GNSS, and a 5,000mAh battery with 20W charging. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/23/motorola-nio-xt2125-specs-leak-snapdragon-865-64mp-triple-camera/">Previous reports</a> said that the device is a flagship running older Snapdragon 865 SoC and a 64MP triple-cameras. However, the latest image contradicts it with a quad-camera image.</p>
<p>Either way, the device will likely have a FHD+ display with a 2520&#215;1080 resolution and a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/25/motorola-nio-flagship-may-sport-an-unusual-105hz-screen/">possible 105Hz refresh rate</a>, come with 8/12GB RAM and 128/256GB storage. For cameras, you can expect a 64MP main, 16MP ultra-wide sensors on the back, and a 16MP+8MP(ultra-wide) set up in the front for selfies.</p>
<p>Nevertheless, the Motorola &#8220;Nio&#8221; is expected to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/14/official-teaser-confirms-the-motorola-edge-s-is-coming-soon/">launch as Motorola Edge S in China</a> and a flagship under Moto-G branding elsewhere.</p>

In fact, a G<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/02/snapdragon-800-series-moto-g-phone-coming-next-year-desktop-mode/">-Series smartphone with an 800 series chipset</a> is coming in 2021. Now, Lenovo China&#8217;s GM has teased a new Motorola smartphone and it could be called &#8216;Motorola Edge S&#8217;.</p>
<p>Chen Jin has teased the device via a Post on Weibo. The post also has an image of the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/motorola">Motorola</a> logo on it. It shimmers with a yellow light falling on it having brushed textured patterns. That said, the image could just be a placeholder. The highlight is the post says a new flagship with Snapdragon 8xx is coming soon.</p>
<p>And if you look at the timestamp of the Weibo Post, it seems to be posted from a device with the &#8216;<strong>Motorola Edge S</strong>&#8216; moniker. Hence, there is a strong possibility that the next device could carry the above name. While he hasn&#8217;t confirmed it as the latest <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-888">Snapdragon 888</a>, don&#8217;t rule out the possibility of an older SoC like Snapdragon 865.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-364708" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Motorola-Edge-S-1.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="903" height="537" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Motorola-Edge-S-1.jpg 903w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Motorola-Edge-S-1-300x178.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Motorola-Edge-S-1-768x457.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Motorola-Edge-S-1-696x414.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Motorola-Edge-S-1-706x420.jpg 706w" sizes="(max-width: 903px) 100vw, 903px" /></p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>This is not the first time as he posted a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/28/lenovo-exec-teases-a-mysterious-motorola-phone-in-china/">retail packaging</a> of a Motorola device last month suggesting an imminent launch. Also, a couple of more hints like the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/30/motorola-nio-xt2125-geekbench-listing/">Geekbench of a Motorola &#8216;Nio&#8217;</a>(Model: <strong>XT2125</strong>) which could be the upcoming phone suggests that it will run <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-865">Snapdragon 865</a>, 8GB RAM, and <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-11">Android 11</a>.</p>
<p>While we don&#8217;t know if the Edge S will sport a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/04/motorola-nio-leaked-image-appears-to-reveal-front-design/">flat display with a dual-punch</a> hole or a curved display with a centered punch hole yet, there is a possibility that the Edge S might continue the trend of earlier launched <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/motorola-edge+">Motorola Edge+</a>. However, we do know that Motorola is working on a smartphone having a display with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/25/motorola-nio-flagship-may-sport-an-unusual-105hz-screen/">105Hz refresh-rate support</a> and a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/23/motorola-nio-xt2125-specs-leak-snapdragon-865-64mp-triple-camera/">64MP camera</a>.</p>
<p>And it could be the Edge S as well. Let&#8217;s wait for more concrete details in the coming days as the launch window doesn&#8217;t seem far now.</p>

The report claimed that the phone is equipped with a 90Hz refresh rate screen. A tweet by <a href="https://www.xda-developers.com/motorola-testing-105hz-display-refresh-rate/">XDA Developers Mishaal Rahmaan</a> that the Motorola Nio may support an unusual refresh rate of 105Hz.</p>
<p>Before the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/asus-rog-phone-3">ROG Phone 3</a> gaming smartphone went official, ASUS was <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/26/asus-rog-phone-3-hidden-160hz-refresh-rate-mode/">found testing a 160Hz refresh rate mode</a> on the device. However, the final device came with support for a 144Hz refresh rate. Rahmaan revealed that the Lenovo-owned brand is testing a default peak refresh rate of 105Hz for the Motorola Nio. He has speculated that the company could be simply testing a higher refresh rate as ASUS did on the ROG Phone 3. The final handset may come equipped with a 90Hz refresh rate.</p>
