One-handed mode is not a novel feature if you have used custom Android UIs such as OneUI, MIUI or any other Android skins except the stock Android. Indeed it’s astonishing that One-handed mode took a long time to arrive in the stock Android. Nonetheless, as you’d know with the Android 12, Google has finally added the One-handed mode as a stock Android feature.

4. Once enabled you can swipe down on the very bottom of the display to trigger the feature

Phones are getting taller and wider making them difficult for one-handed use. To make usage easier, some manufacturers have added a software feature called One-Handed Mode. When activated, the screen is shrunk to a smaller size similar to a phone with a smaller display, therefore, making it easier to operate. Sadly, this feature is not available on any OnePlus phone but that may change soon.

A staff of OnePlus disclosed during an AMA session that the company is working on one-hand mode. The statement was a reply to a user’s inquiry about why OnePlus has failed to implement such a feature in its devices.

There is no info on how soon the feature will arrive on devices but it sure is good news to know OnePlus does plan to introduce it in the future. We also do not know which OnePlus phones will be getting it.

At the moment, the OnePlus 7T Pro and OnePlus 7 Pro are the largest OnePlus phones with a screen size of 6.67-inches, so both should definitely get one-handed mode. Technically, all OnePlus devices that are still eligible for updates should get the feature.

OnePlus is working on improving the software experience of its devices and it is good to see that it takes feedback seriously. Over the past year, new features have been added to OxygenOS such as ZenMode and Screen Recorder.
