Now, the brand has started rolling out the first software update for the device that smooths out the edges in departments like camera, connectivity, and performance.

Update: OnePlus reached out to us today saying that they miscommunicated the software update cycle for the OnePlus 11R previously. The correct update cycle is three years of Android OS versions and four years of security updates. This means that the OnePlus 11R will receive up to Android 16 version.

OnePlus had announced a new software update policy last December. During the Cloud 11 launch event, the brand revealed that the OnePlus 11 5G will be the first phone to receive four future Android OS versions. However, the same was not announced for the OnePlus 11R 5G which also debuted at the event. Now the OnePlus support team has officially confirmed the software update cycle for the latest R-series device. 

Replying to a user on Twitter, OnePlus says that the latest 11R will get four major Android updates and five years of security updates. It ships with the latest OxygenOS 13-based Android 13 out of the box. The guaranteed four years of updates mean that the smartphone will be eligible to run on the Android 17 OS version. This puts the OnePlus 11R 5G on par with the 11 5G in terms of software support. Additionally, there are not many devices under the Rs 45,000 segment (considering the top variant of the 11R 5G) to get as many as four years of Android OS updates. Most of them offer two or three versions at max. 

The longer software update cycle of the OnePlus 11R 5G makes it a great option for those who want to use the phone longer while also experiencing new software features with every version of future Android. Software updates are a major parameter that influences customers buying decisions. Longer support allows users to keep using their devices for a longer period of time after paying a premium. Brands like Google, Samsung, and OPPO have been offering four years of software updates for select phones since a while now.

OnePlus announced two new smartphones alongside other devices for the global market. The two phones launched by the brand are the OnePlus 11 5G and OnePlus 11R 5G. While the former is already available in China, the latter has debuted as rebranded OnePlus Ace 2 in the home market. The OnePlus 11R 5G arrives as the successor to the last year’s OnePlus 10R with significant upgrades. Read on to know what the device offers out of the box. 

The OnePlus 11R 5G is the first R-series device from the brand to feature a curved AMOLED display measuring 6.74 inches. It offers an FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, 1,450 nits peak brightness, an integrated fingerprint scanner, and support for HDR10+. The smartphone has the same design as the OnePlus 11 5G with a circular camera module beneath a half-pill-shaped glossy pattern. The alert slider that was missing on the predecessor model makes a comeback on the latest offering. 

On the imaging front, the OnePlus 11R 5G features a triple rear camera. The setup consists of a 50MP Sony IMX890 sensor with OIS support, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2MP macro unit. Up front, there is a 16MP selfie snapper. 

Internally, the OnePlus 11R 5G is equipped with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. It packs up to 16GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB storage. There is a RAM-Vita feature that accelerates the relocation of memory usage through machine learning and AI. The device has an eight-channel VC cooling system for heat dissipation. The smartphone draws its power from a 5,000mAh battery unit with support for 100W fast charging. Software-wise, it runs on Android 13 with OxygenOS 13 skinned on the top. 

The OnePlus 11R 5G is offered in Sonic Black and Galactic Silver colour options. It is an India-specific device and is priced at Rs 39,999 and Rs 44,999 for the 8GB + 128GB and 16GB + 256GB RAM and storage configurations. The device is up for pre-orders starting today with sales commencing from February 16th

OnePlus is scheduled to announce the OnePlus 11 5G, Buds Pro 2 TWS earbuds, and its first keyboard on Feb. 7 in India. A notification for the rumored OnePlus 11R 5G has reportedly surfaced on Amazon India. Clicking on it reveals the following poster, which confirms that it will also break cover at 7:30 pm (local time) on Feb. 7.

As can be seen, the OnePlus 11R 5G will be marketed with the “The Shape of Power” tagline. While the launch date has appeared on Amazon, there has been no official confirmation from the brand about its arrival.

Several reports have already leaked a lot of information about the OnePlus 11R 5G. Speculations are rife that the same device will be heading to the Chinese market with the OnePlus Ace 2 moniker.

OnePlus 11R 5G specifications (rumored)

The OnePlus 11R 5G is expected to feature a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with curved edges. It will support an HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The phone will run on OxygenOS 13-based Android 13.

The OP11R will arrive with a 16-megapixel selfie. On the back, it will feature an OIS-enabled 50-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 2-megapixel macro camera.

Under the hood, it will have the underclocked edition of the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset. It is expected to arrive with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. It will house a 5,000mAh battery with 100W charging. For security, it will be equipped with an under-display fingerprint scanner. It will also feature an alert slider.

The device will be available in two configurations: 8 GB of RAM with 128 GB of storage and 16 GB of RAM with 512 GB of storage. The base model is likely to cost between Rs 35,000 (~$429) and Rs 40,000 (~$490), while the higher edition may cost between Rs 40,000 (~$490) and Rs 45,000 (~$552).
