The company’s Global division has confirmed via a Twitter post. It is expected to launch three Smartphones, the Oppo A72, A53s, and A15 on October 7th in the country.

The teaser video shared on the tweet has nothing but the company’s logo with some animations. However, media in SA seems to have already got (via GSMArena) the review units of Oppo A72 days before the official launch.

And as per publication named Stuff from SA, Oppo will be testing the market by launching three mid-range phones before venturing into flagships. If the reports are true, Oppo will be launching new flagships in the country going forward. That means, the country will get the next iteration of flagship phones in H1 2021 and not the old ones. Also, the report says that the Oppo A72 will be priced at R7000(ZAR- South African Rand) which is about 2793 Chinese yuan.

OPPO has officially landed in South Africa!
Welcome to the team, @OPPOSouthAfrica! https://t.co/BfDWfpUXCK

Moving on, out of the three devices, we already know about the Oppo A72. It is the best of the bunch with better specifications. However, A15 and A53s seems to be new on the list. That said, specifications of A53s quoted on the report suggests that the device might just be a rebadged version of the Oppo A53 that launched recently in India. And this is evident from the company’s official teasers on its SA website. The rear panel of A53s is very similar to the A53 with triple rear cameras and fingerprint sensor in the middle of the back panel. Besides, the website also has also listed the entire specifications of the budget Enco W11 TWS.

The Oppo A15 on the other hand, is still a mystery. But the report says the device will be a lower-midrange device with a 6.5-inch HD+ display, a triple-camera on the rear panel, and a 4,230mAh battery. Nevertheless, we are sure to get more details as we approach the launch.

Looks like the company is showing no signs of slowing down as it is gearing up for the launch of new smartphones in South Africa. The list of devices likely to launch includes two A series of smartphones and Enco W11 earbuds.

A report (via MyBroadband) redirects us to the official South African website of Oppo. While the exact list of devices that are launching is not officially known yet, the report says the two smartphones could be Oppo A53 and Oppo A72. If we recall, Oppo launched the A72 back in April and the budget A53 smartphone was recently unveiled in India.

Apart from this, the website has also listed Oppo’s budget Enco W11 Truly Wireless Earbuds suggesting an imminent launch. In fact, the earbuds launched at just $33 recently in India. However, it is not known if the Enco W11 will launch alongside the smartphones or at a later date, yet. The earbuds feature 8mm drivers with AAC format support, Bluetooth 5.0, touch controls, IP55-rating, and up to 20hrs battery life.

Quite a number of OPPO phones this year have support for 5G but there are still several areas where 4G is used. For those living in these areas and want a budget 4G phone, the new OPPO A52 and OPPO A72 should cater to your needs.

The A52 also has a 12MP + 8MP + 2MP + 2MP quad rear cameras, a 16MP selfie camera, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a 5000mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging. The phone runs Android 10 out of the box and buyers will be able to choose between Twilight Black and Stream White color variants.

OPPO A72

For €249, you can pick up the OPPO A72, which has the same screen size and resolution and also comes with the same Snapdragon 665 processor. There is 4GB of RAM too but you get 128GB of storage.

The primary rear camera is a 48MP f/1.7 sensor and it comes along with an 8MP ultrawide angle camera, two 2MP cameras. The selfie camera is a 16MP sensor just like that of the OPPO A52.

There is a 5000mAh battery under the hood with support for 18W fast charging, stereo speakers, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. It ships with ColorOS 7.1 based on Android 10 and will be available in Twilight Black and Aurora Purple.

You can pick up either of the two phones on the German online store OTTO.

Design

Do not expect premium materials from these devices as they are made of polycarbonate, but you still get a pretty nice design with each of them. Despite it does not feature a punch-hole display (unlike the OPPO A52 and the A72) and it comes with a traditional waterdrop notch, the one I love is the OPPO A91 because it offers a higher screen-to-body ratio, a more minimalistic rear side, a thinner (and lighter) body, and an in-display fingerprint reader. OPPO A52 and A72 come with the same design, with the exception of colors. The strongest point is the punch-hole display making them more futuristic, but they are less compact and they have a bigger camera module on the back.

Display

One of the key features of the OPPO A91 is the presence of an AMOLED display offering more brilliant colors and deeper blacks, as well as an in-display fingerprint scanner. It is a smaller display compared to OPPO A52 and A72, but it has a more stunning image quality. The OPPO A52 and A72 which can be considered successors of OPPO A5 and A9 2020 both come with the same IPS panel, but unlike their predecessors, they boast a satisfying Full HD+ resolution just like the OPPO A91. Note that OPPO A52 and A72 boast stereo speakers, while OPPO A91 is mono.

Hardware/Software

Despite OPPO A52 and A72 are more affordable phones than OPPO A91, their Snapdragon 665 chipset (by Qualcomm) offers more or less the same power and performance level as the Helio P70 (by MediaTek) found on the A91. What really makes the difference is the amount of RAM: you get only 4 GB on the OPPO A52 and A72, while OPPO A91 ships with 8 GB of RAM. OPPO A52 and A72 differ for the internal storage: the former offers 64 GB, while the latter has 128 GB (just like the A91). The operating system installed is Android 10, customized by ColorOS.

Camera

OPPO A72 and A91 come with the same camera department composed of a 48 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultrawide lens, and two additional sensors with 2 MP resolutions. They are not high-end camera phones, but they are all but disappointing. OPPO A52 is inferior due to its inferior 12 MP main sensor and 8 MP front camera (against the 16 MP front snappers of its rivals), but the secondary sensors of the rear camera setup are the same.

Battery

OPPO A52 and A72 win the battery life comparison and they are two of the best battery phones thanks to a huge 5000 mAh battery. But OPPO A91 remains a pretty nice battery phone with its 4025 mAh battery.

Price

OPPO A52 sells for €199/$217 globally, OPPO A72 is available for €279/$305, and OPPO A91 has a €329/$360 price tag. Despite the OPPO A91 is the best phone of this comparison, I do not think it is worth spending more than €300 to get it. It has a better display and (slightly) better performance, but it lacks stereo speakers and it has a smaller battery than OPPO A52 and A72. Unless you need an above-average camera setup and 128 GB of internal storage, OPPO A52 should be enough. But if you want more than just decent cameras and more storage, then go for the OPPO A72. Do you agree?

The OPPO A72 is a sibling of the A52 that has been launched in China. It features a similar 6.5-inch display with FHD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080pixels. The A72 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM. This is similar to the A52 but while the A52 has 64GB storage onboard, OPPO A72 comes with 128GB of internal storage. Both are expandable via MicroSD slots.

The camera aspect is another area where the two models differ. The A72 features a Quad-camera setup at the rear just like the A52 but the sensors are slightly different. The A72 setup consists of a 48MP main sensor teaming up with an 8MP ultrawide camera, a 2MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor. For selfies, there is a 16MP sensor. This is an upgrade over the A52 which has a smaller 12MP main sensor and an 8MP selfie sensor.

Further, the OPPO A72 features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and a 3.5mm jack on the bottom. The device gets its power supply from a 5,000mAh battery and supports 18W fast charge. Both models run the latest Android 10-based Color OS 7.1.

The OPPO A72 is expected to be sold in Europe alongside the A52. The prices are not known but the A52 was launched with a retail price of 1,600 yuan in China ( around €210). We expect the prices to be slightly higher due to taxes and other expenses.
