OPPO Find N foldable phone announced with 7.1 inch 120Hz display, way cheaper than Galaxy Z Fold3

During the OPPO INNO Day 2021, the company has finally unveiled the highly anticipated Find N foldable smartphone. The device has been in development for four years and has finally been officially announced.

Display and Design

The Find N from the Chinese tech giant has gone through a number of prototypes over the last four years to offer an improved foldable phone experience. The company placed an emphasis on the development of its design, hinge, and overall durability. The outer display is a 5.49 inch AMOLED display while the internal primary panel is a 7.1 inch E5 AMOLED display that offers 1000 nits of brightness with 1Hz to 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The display arrives with 100 percent P3 and sRGB color gamut, so its great for editing as well. For protection, it sports UTG glass and even arrives with TÜV Rheinland certification as well.

One of the areas OPPO set its focus on was to eliminate the crease and raise the overall durability, while also improving the hand feel. Despite weighing 275 grams, the company sought to improve the feel of the device when being used in its folded state to make it comfortable in users’ hands with an ergonomic design to ensure that it doesn’t feel like a heavy brick. For durability, the company guarantees that the device can be folded 100 times for more than 5 years in -20 degree Celsius temperature without any crease forming in the middle.

Notably, apart from its folded and unfolded modes, it can even be used in its FlexForm mod. In this mode, one can basically set the device in any angle between the other two modes that even works with the camera app for certain shooting modes as well. This feature is made possible thanks to its new Flexion hinge mechanism (comprises of 136 parts), which is claimed to be one of the best in the market. Another area where the company made key additions in is the UI. Users can access split screen accessibility with just a single swipe from the top center region. This makes the multi tasking process extremely simple and intuitive.

Specifications

Under the hood, the Find N features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC and is powered by a large 4,500mAh battery pack that supports up to 33W fast charging. The chip is paired with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. On the rear, it sports a triple camera setup with a Sony IMX 766 50 megapixel primary sensor along with a 16 megapixel ultra wide angle lens and 13 megapixel telephoto sensor. The front houses a 32 megapixel punch hole selfie shooter on both the outer and inner display.

Pricing and Availability

The OPPO Find N will be available in multiple color variants, namely Black, Ceramic White, and Purple. Its pricing starts from 7,699 Yuan (roughly 1,210 US Dollars) for the 8GB+256GB variant and goes up to 8,999 Yuan (roughly 1,410 US Dollars) for the 12GB+512GB model. The new foldable smartphone is currently available for bookings in China and its sales starts from the 23rd December 2021.

OPPO Air Glass Hands-On and First Impression: A unique and lightweight design

OPPO has showcased some interesting technologies and concept devices so far and the company keeps on experimenting with new devices and the latest product coming from the Chinese brand is the OPPO Air Glass.

At the OPPO INNO Day 2021, the company officially unveiled its first assisted reality (AR) smart glass, dubbed OPPO Air Glass. GizmoChina was present at the event and got to briefly use the device. Here’s our hands-on experience and the first impression of the newly unveiled OPPO Air Glass.

It has a futuristic styling and comes with a single-lens design. It’s basically a set of spectacles with an additional glass frame attachment that magnetically snaps onto the right side of the frame. It is extremely lightweight, weighing at just 30 grams.

The glass embeds Spark Micro Projector and a micro-LED and supports two display modes – 16-level grayscale and 256-level grayscale. It also offers up to 1400nits average brightness for a vivid and sharp visual display.

The frame has a magnetic component and it houses the projector, motherboard, Snapdragon Wear 4100 chipset, battery, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antennas, microphones, and a speaker. There are multiple ways the OPPO Air Glass can be used, including touch controls, hand gestures, and head shakes. However, to use the device, you will need Reno 6 Pro or the company’s Watch 2 as it doesn’t support any other Android or iOS device.

There’s a wide range of use cases for this new AR product from OPPO as it comes with support for functionalities like weather reminders, schedule reminders, a Health app, and a teleprompter for speeches, presentations, and many more scenarios.

It also supports real-time translation between Chinese and English languages but the company has promised to add support for more languages. Currently, it is limited to a few functions and users cannot use it to watch videos or play games.

As of now, the OPPO Air Glass will get a limited release in China and should be available for purchase in Q1 2022. The company is yet to reveal details about its pricing.

The Chinese tech giant OPPO kicked off the OPPO INNO Day 2021 event earlier today (14th December 2021). OPPO unveiled several new technologies and products through this event, including the OPPO Air Glass.

OPPO unveiled the first assisted reality (AR) smart glass offering from the company, the OPPO Air Glass. The glass features futuristic styling with a single lens design and weighs less than 30 grams. Additionally, the Air Glass is designed to snap onto custom frames offered by OPPO using magnetic components housed inside the Air Glass frame.

The OPPO Air assisted reality glass has a single glass design with a proprietary Spark Micro Projector and cutting-edge micro-LED. OPPO Air Glass adopts a custom optical diffraction waveguide, supporting two display modes – 16-level grayscale and 256-level grayscale – and can deliver up to 1400 nits in average brightness while projecting, ensuring a vivid and sharp visual display in different lighting conditions. The waveguide on both sides is encased in two layers of scratch-resistant Sapphire glass.

The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 4100 SoC. It features functionalities like weather reminders, schedule reminders, a Health app, and a teleprompter which will benefit users with speeches, presentations, and many more scenarios.

OPPO Air Glasses real-time translation

In addition to that, the smart-glass also features real-time translation with support for Chinese-English two-way translation while Chinese-Japanese and Chinese-Korean translations are slated to be offered in the future. Another important feature baked into the smart-glass is the real-time on-display navigation which provides directions via visual queues to guide you to your destination.

The smart glass is also capable of seamlessly syncing with OPPO smartphones enabled with ColorOS 11 and above version via the Smart Glass App and even the OPPO Watch 2.

OPPO Air Glasses interaction features

With the OPPO Air Glass, the company brings you four intuitive methods of interaction – touch, voice, hand motions, and head movements. The touch functionality can be accessed on the side frame of the glass that houses a capacitive touchpad. While hand gestures can only be accessed when wearing the OPPO Watch 2. The voice and head movement interaction functionality are built into the Air Glasses and can be accessed by voice commands and slight movements of the head like a nod or a shake.

Price and Availability

OPPO Air Glass is due to launch in Q1 2022 in the Chinese Mainland market. The device will be available in two colors Black or White, along with two custom frame options. The price of the device has not been revealed yet but we expect more information on it as we get closer to its market release date.

OPPO to showcase its technological achievements through first-ever virtual INNO DAY event

OPPO today announced that it will be hosting the annual OPPO INNO DAY on the 14th and 15th of December 2021 in Shenzhen, China. The event will be showcasing the company’s technological advancements over the past year and also giving out strategy updates. Worldwide attendees are expected to be drawn by it, and the event will even be streamed online for all to see.

OPPO started with its INNO Days back in 2019 and the event has since been considered as a precursor of the company’s roadmap. The 2019’s event saw the company demonstrating its AR Glasses, 5G CPE, smartwatch, and other integrated ecosystem products. And in last year’s event, OPPO showcased three conceptual products, including a revolutionary rollable phone.

While the company hasn’t yet revealed what to expect from 2021’s OPPO INNO DAY, it is trying to transform the event itself into a virtual experience to remember, complete with an entertaining and interactive world.

Regular visitors of the event can join the fun remotely using customized avatars, using which they can visit all virtual exhibition halls. These avatars will also enable watchers to socialize and invite each other to hunt hidden easter eggs across the virtual world.
