OnePlus is actively working on Android 17, which will come with the OxygenOS 17 skin on top. It’s said to be one of the biggest Android OS upgrades in recent years, which, paired with new features and upgrades from OxygenOS 17, becomes a significant upgrade rather than just an annual refresh.

If you have a OnePlus device, you may be looking forward to the next major upgrade, OxygenOS 17. So, we’ve written this post to share everything we know about this upgrade, including details on eligible devices, the release timeline, and new features.

OxygenOS 17 update: Full list of eligible devices

OnePlus flagship phones

OnePlus Open

OnePlus 15

OnePlus 15R

OnePlus 13

OnePlus 13R

OnePlus 13s

OnePlus 13T

OnePlus 12

OnePlus 12R

OnePlus 11

OnePlus Nord series

OnePlus Nord 6

OnePlus Nord 5

OnePlus Nord 4

OnePlus Nord CE 6

OnePlus Nord CE 6 Lite

OnePlus Nord CE 5

OnePlus Pad series

OnePlus Pad 4

OnePlus Pad 3

OnePlus Pad 2

OnePlus Pad Lite

OnePlus Pad Go 2

As an official announcement is still pending, this list has been prepared by analyzing the update policy for every OnePlus device released to date and should therefore be accurate.

If your OnePlus device is on the list, you can be sure that it will receive the OxygenOS 17 update when the rollout begins. Otherwise, you may need to upgrade to a newer model.

Also read: 8 Android 17 features in development I can’t wait to use

When will OnePlus release the OxygenOS 17 update?

OnePlus’ progress on Android 17 so far closely matches last year’s timeline. It skipped the first beta and directly released Beta 2 in April, followed by another beta in May.

These early Android “Developer Preview” builds do not include a new version of OxygenOS until around October. That’s when the software is almost ready for a public release with a new OxygenOS skin.

Since the stable Android 17 is dropping almost the same time as last year, in June, OnePlus may also follow a similar rollout pattern. That means the OxygenOS 17 beta program could begin in October, and the stable rollout may go live in early November.

The stable rollout is still months away, but we already have a solid idea about the new features and upgrades coming with the next major upgrade, as discussed below.

What to expect from the OxygenOS 17 update?

OnePlus hasn’t revealed any details about the changes coming to OxygenOS 17, but early leaks suggest a major upgrade to the user experience. According to a leak posted on a Telegram channel, the new version will offer significantly smoother zooming for both photos and videos.

The same leak also says OxygenOS 17 significantly reduces lag, flickering, and UI frame drops, and offers improved scrolling and smoothness. The power efficiency for small tasks is said to have been optimized. OxygenOS 17 could also optimize CPU usage, background app retention, app launch speed, and overall battery usage.

Besides these under-the-hood upgrades, we also expect new features, visual enhancements, and improved AI capabilities in OxygenOS 17. We’ll have more details on them once the open beta is released.

In addition to the OxygenOS 17 upgrades, the final update will also include new features and changes from Android 17, developed by Google. In the beta releases so far, many new features and changes have been spotted, including a native app lock, floating-bubble support for all apps, a more powerful screen recorder, redesigned privacy indicators, limited contact access to apps, and seamless task continuity. You can read more about the changes in Android 17 on this page.

OnePlus has already begun developing its next major software upgrade, OxygenOS 17, which will be based on Android 17. The update will be rolled out to over a dozen eligible devices later this year (check the full list here), but for a few of them, this will be the last major upgrade.

Review the list below to find out if Android 17-based OxygenOS 17 will be the last major upgrade for your OnePlus device.

OnePlus devices getting OxygenOS 17 as their last major upgrade

1. OnePlus Open

Launched OS: Android 13

Software support: up to 4 major OS upgrades

Last OS update: Android 17

The OnePlus Open was released in late 2023 with Android 13-based OxygenOS 13 out of the box, with a promise to receive four major Android upgrades. So far, OnePlus has released three OS updates for the device, and it’s also eligible for Android 17, but unfortunately, that would be the last major update.

2. OnePlus 12R

Launched OS: Android 14

Software support: up to 3 major OS upgrades

Last OS update: Android 17

The OnePlus 12R launched in January 2024 with Android 14 pre-installed. The company promises three major upgrades for the device, and as a result, it will receive Android 17 as its final OS update.

3. OnePlus 11

Launched OS: Android 13

Software support: up to 4 major OS upgrades

Last OS update: Android 17

The OnePlus 11 guarantees four major OS upgrades. Since it was launched with Android 13, the upcoming Android 17 upgrade would be the final one.

4. OnePlus Pad 2

Launched OS: Android 14

Software support: up to 3 major OS upgrades

Last OS update: Android 17

The OnePlus Pad 2 also joins the list as it was launched with Android 14 and guarantees only three major OS upgrades, which end with Android 17.

These four OnePlus devices will receive their last major OS upgrade, Android 17, later this year or early next year. After that, they would become ineligible for major upgrades, although the devices will continue to receive security updates for a while.

The Android 17 update for OnePlus devices will come with the OxygenOS 17 custom skin on top, bringing additional features and enhancements on top of Android 17’s core features and changes. While we don’t know much about OxygenOS 17, Google has already released four Android 17 betas, offering us an early look at the upcoming changes and upgrades. Check out this post to read about them.

OnePlus has wrapped up its OxygenOS 16 rollout and may already be developing the next major upgrade, OxygenOS 17, which would be based on Android 17. We can expect to see some major upgrades and a host of refinements across the UI, along with upgrades to security and privacy.

Unfortunately, many OnePlus devices will miss out on the OxygenOS 17 update, as they have already received the promised number of OS updates. We’ve prepared a list of such devices below. Review it to find out if you’re on the safe side or if you’ll need a newer device to receive this major upgrade.

List of OnePlus devices not eligible for OxygenOS 17 (Android 17) upgrade

OnePlus flagship series

OnePlus 11R

OnePlus 10R

OnePlus 10T

OnePlus 10 Pro

Older OnePlus flagship phones

OnePlus Nord series

OnePlus Nord 3

Older Nord phones

OnePlus Nord CE series

OnePlus Nord CE 4

OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite

Older Nord CE phones

OnePlus Pad series

OnePlus Pad

OnePlus Pad Go

Keep in mind that this is an unofficial list. However, since it’s based on the official update policy, we would hardly expect any difference. So, if your device is on the above list, it’s unlikely to be upgraded to OxygenOS 17. In that case, you may want to upgrade to a newer device that can stay relevant for years to come. To make things easier, we’ve compiled a list of OnePlus devices that promise six years of software updates.

As of writing this post, OnePlus hasn’t revealed anything about OxygenOS 17. However, Google has already released two public betas of Android 17, which is available to eligible Pixels and select Motorola devices. OnePlus should also join the beta party soon, likely with the OnePlus 15. The stable Android 17 could be released in Q3 2026 for Google Pixels, and will eventually start rolling out to OnePlus devices a few weeks later.

OnePlus wrapped up the OxygenOS 16 rollout earlier this month, which is based on Android 16, and we’re pretty sure the brand has already begun the development of its successor, OxygenOS 17. The upcoming software will have Android 17 at its core and will likely feature a host of new features and enhancements across the system.

While we don’t yet know the OxygenOS 17 features, we’ve curated a list of OnePlus devices eligible for the Android 17 upgrade. This is not a hypothetical list, but it is based on the existing software update policy and must therefore be accurate.

OnePlus Android 17 (OxygenOS 17) eligible devices list

OnePlus flagship phones

OnePlus Open

OnePlus 15

OnePlus 15R

OnePlus 13

OnePlus 13R

OnePlus 13s

OnePlus 13T

OnePlus 12

OnePlus 12R

OnePlus 11

OnePlus Nord series

OnePlus Nord 5

OnePlus Nord CE 5

OnePlus Nord 4

OnePlus Pad series

OnePlus Pad 3

OnePlus Pad 2

OnePlus Pad Lite

OnePlus Pad Go 2

If your OnePlus device is on the list, it’s guaranteed to receive the OxygenOS 17 update once the rollout begins. Otherwise, you’ll need to upgrade to a newer model to continue to receive the latest updates and access the latest features and major changes. You can review the list of OnePlus phones that promise up to 4 major OS upgrades here.

While OnePlus hasn’t shared any details about OxygenOS 17, Google has already released the first beta of Android 17. According to the official timeline, the OS will enter the platform stability phase next month, while the stable release is expected in Q3 2026.

Last year, OnePlus was among the earliest third-party manufacturers to offer Android 16 testing. The first beta build was offered to select OnePlus devices in April 2025. The brand is expected to follow a similar pattern with Android 17, and hence, we can expect the first beta to arrive in March or April for select devices, including the OnePlus 15.

We’ll keep an eye on the latest developments around OxygenOS 17 and post them in the OnePlus section.
Xiaomi recently confirmed the list of devices that will get the Android 17 OS update, which arrived soon after the first official Android 17 beta went live. Now, early leaks have revealed Oppo’s and OnePlus’s next major software updates based on Android 17. But ahead of any official release roadmap, the latest report has revealed a bunch of key updates for the upcoming ColorOS 17 and OxygenOS 17.

ColorOS 17 and OxygenOS 17: Smoother Performance & System Efficiency

One of the biggest themes across leaks is system performance optimization. Both ColorOS 17 and OxygenOS 17 are reported to refine CPU resource and memory management, resulting in faster app launches, fewer micro-stutters and better overall fluidity when navigating the interface.

OxygenOS 16

Background multitasking is expected to benefit from improved app retention, meaning apps stay active longer instead of reloading frequently. Leaks also suggest deeper internal optimizations like improved garbage collection processes to reduce unnecessary workload on system resources and refine idle power usage, which could translate into more consistent battery life in day-to-day use.

Refined Animations & Interface Fluidity

Both the ColorOS 17 and OxygenOS 17 updates are tipped to bring smoother system-wide animations and reduced UI frame drops, helping make everyday interactions feel more consistent and responsive. Whether scrolling through apps or navigating menus, leaks suggest that transitions and motion feedback will look more polished than before, improving the overall feel and software experience.

ColorOS 16

Camera apps are also a focus here. Reports point to improved zoom transitions while taking photos and videos, meaning less lag, flickering and abrupt jumps between zoom levels. This would be a great quality tweak that could make major differences during real world shooting sessions.

Camera & Visual Improvements

On the imaging side, one of the more practical changes highlighted in the leaks is smoother zoom behavior in the camera interface. These enhancements are for both stills and video capture. This hints at software-level improvements that could make switching between focal lengths or continuous zooming feel more natural and less jittery. That’s a welcome improvement for users who rely on their phones for quick photo/video tasks.

According to early leaks shared through a Telegram source tracking OnePlus software development, OxygenOS 17 could introduce a significant system-wide fluidity upgrade. The focus appears to be on improving responsiveness across everyday interactions, including smoother animations and reduced UI frame drops. Reports suggest that transitions throughout the interface may feel more consistent, which could enhance the overall perception of speed even without major hardware changes.

The update may improve zoom transitions while capturing photos and recording videos, reducing lag and making adjustments appear more seamless. These changes could help deliver a more polished camera experience, particularly during continuous zoom operations where sudden stutters can sometimes occur.

Beyond visual improvements, deeper system-level optimization is reportedly being worked on. CPU resource management is said to be refined to reduce unnecessary workload, while background app retention could improve multitasking by keeping more applications active without slowing down the device. Enhancements to garbage collection processes are also mentioned, potentially leading to faster app launches and fewer micro-stutters during extended usage.

Expected rollout timeline and device availability

Although OnePlus has not officially confirmed OxygenOS 17, the update is likely to arrive shortly after the stable release of Android 17. Historically, OnePlus has introduced its new OxygenOS version within months of Google’s Android launch, suggesting a possible announcement later in the year.

The upcoming OnePlus 16 is likely to be the first device to ship with OxygenOS 17 pre-installed, while older compatible models may receive the update through phased rollouts. Since OxygenOS and Oppo’s ColorOS share a common code base, similar enhancements could appear on Oppo devices as well.
