Among the new products announced at the Realme event in India today is the Realme 4K Smart Googe TV Stick. It is the first streaming stick from a third-party manufacturer to launch with Google TV. Those who live in India will be particularly considering the Chromecast with Google TV isn’t sold in the country.

Prior to its launch, a leak revealed the specifications of the realme 4K Smart Google TV Stick and among the provided details was the storage capacity which was stated to be 16GB. That was pleasant news as the Chromecast with Google TV’s measly 8GB of storage wasn’t sufficient and that resulted in user complaints. In my excitement, I even penned down an article about how it was better than Google’s own streaming dongle. Turns out the information was incorrect and the Realme TV Stick doesn’t have 16GB storage but 8GB!

It is disappointing to see manufacturers making the same mistake as competitors. With 8GB of storage, of which less than that is available out of the box, users will soon run into storage issues within a short period.

The spec sheet on the product page states the Realme 4K Smart TV Stick has 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. It also has a processor with four Arm Cortex-A35 cores for its CPU and a dual-core GPU. It has HDR10+ support and can stream in 4K at 60fps. The product page also mentions Bluetooth 5.0 and HDMI 2.1.

The Realme 4K Smart TV Stick doesn’t have a stylish Bluetooth remote like the Chromecast with Google TV but it isn’t bad. Its buttons include a circular directional pad with a yellow ring inside it, a mute button, a power button, a settings button, volume control buttons, a Google Assistant button, and shortcut buttons for Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, and YouTube Music.

Realme has put a ₹3,999 (~$53) price tag on the streaming stick which is a few bucks higher than the $49 price tag of the Chromecast with Google TV. The manufacturer is yet to reveal when it will be available for purchase.
