Realme GT 7 Pro to receive UFS 4.1, bypass charging features

Soon after the launch of the GT 7 Pro Racing Edition, Chase Xu, who is Vice President of Realme, President of Global Marketing, and President of China, confirmed that the GT 7 Pro (Chinese edition) will also receive UFS 4.1 and bypass charging through updates. Bypass charging is expected to roll out in March, followed by UFS 4.1 support in April.

He also emphasized that the Realme GT series remains committed to delivering top-tier performance and gaming experiences, assuring users that their feedback is always valued. However, it remains to be seen whether these features will also come to the GT 7 Pro’s global version.

What is UFS 4.1?

For those who don’t know, UFS 4.1 is a minor upgrade over UFS 4.0, offering key improvements in performance, security, and efficiency. It enhances read speeds through better data defragmentation and improves write speeds with flexible buffer management. Security is strengthened with RPMB authentication, while error handling and memory precision are also refined.

Phones with UFS 4.0 may receive some UFS 4.1 features via software updates, though hardware limitations may prevent full adoption. Even partial upgrades can lead to faster app loading, quicker file transfers, smoother multitasking, and improved gaming performance.

What is bypass charging?

Bypass charging in smartphones allows the device to draw power directly from the charger, bypassing the battery entirely. This means that instead of the battery powering the phone’s components, the charger does, reducing strain on the battery and minimizing heat generation.

This model is a performance-centric variant of the Realme GT 7 Pro, which was released in November 2024. While it retains the core hardware, the Racing Edition makes certain trade-offs in camera and display technology while focusing on raw performance and endurance. The Realme GT 7 Pro Racing Edition features a 6.78-inch BOE S2 OLED display with a micro-quad-curved design. It supports 120Hz refresh rate, 6,000 nits peak brightness, 1,600 nits global brightness, and comes with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support for an enhanced viewing experience.

Under the hood, it is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, paired with LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.1 storage, ensuring top-tier performance. For thermal management, the device includes an 11,480mm² dual-chamber vapour cooling system.

The phone houses a massive 6,500mAh battery with 120W wired fast charging, which also supports bypass charging to reduce heat during intensive gaming sessions. When it comes to photography, the Racing Edition is equipped with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX896 main sensor with OIS, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide OV08D10 sensor, and a 16-megapixel Samsung S5K3P9 front camera.

The primary 50-megapixel Sony IMX906 sensor on the GT 7 Pro is replaced with the Sony IMX896, while the 8-megapixel ultra-wide sensor remains the same. However, the GT 7 Pro offers an additional 50-megapixel LYT-600 periscope sensor, which is absent in the Racing Edition.

Another notable change is the fingerprint sensor—while the GT 7 Pro boasts an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, the Racing Edition comes with an optical in-display fingerprint scanner. Storage speeds also differ, with the GT 7 Pro featuring UFS 4.0, while the Racing Edition gets the faster UFS 4.1. On the plus side, the Racing Edition includes bypass charging support, a feature missing from the GT 7 Pro.

Inspired by the deep blue storms of Neptune, the phone’s back panel features a distinctive texture created using Realme’s proprietary “Zero-degree Storm AG” process.

The overall look of the phone appears to be a slightly modified version of the Realme GT 7 Pro. While the existing model has a triple-camera setup on the back, the Racing Edition variant comes with a dual-camera setup.

As per reports, it is a tweaked version of the existing GT 7 Pro, packing the same specs but ditching the periscope telephoto camera. It is also speculated to feature an optical-type fingerprint sensor instead of an ultrasonic one.

The GT 7 Pro Racing Edition will compete with the OnePlus Ace 5 Pro and iQOO Neo10 Pro in the same price range. Likely, the Racing Edition model will debut as the most affordable Snapdragon 8 Elite phone. According to reliable leaker Digital Chat Station, the GT 7 Pro Racing Edition will debut next week in China.

The AnTuTu benchmark results show the GT 7 Pro Racing Edition scoring 3,063,313 points, slightly higher than the GT 7 Pro’s 3,025,991. In comparison, the OnePlus Ace 5 Pro scored 3,218,978, and the iQOO Neo10 Pro achieved 3,204,156.

In terms of specifications, the Realme GT 7 Pro Racing Edition will have a 6.78-inch micro-quad-curved AMOLED panel that offers a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.
