Xiaomi is literally dominating the budget segment of the smartphone market this year. After temporarily becoming the world’s first smartphone brand (recently surpassed by Apple once again), the Chinese giant launched the POCO M4 Pro 5G in the global market with astonishing specifications offered at a very affordable price. But the POCO M4 Pro 5G made its debut just a few weeks ago: does it really offer the best price or you can find better street prices for a few older devices in the global market? This is a comparison between the POCO M4 Pro 5G and another amazing Xiaomi phone in the same price segment, but older and available with amazing street prices: the Redmi Note 9T 5G.

Xiaomi POCO M4 Pro 5G vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T 5G

Design

Unfortunately, none of these devices shines for its design. They are built with cheap materials as they are entirely made of polycarbonate with the exception of the front glass which is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 on the Redmi Note 9T 5G and Gorilla Glass 3 on the POCO M4 Pro 5G. However, the build quality is great: besides the Gorilla Glass protection, these handsets come with a water-repellent design. The POCO M4 Pro 5G even features the IP53 certification guaranteeing dust resistance and splash resistance. The Redmi Note 9T 5G is a thicker phone, but it is more compact than POCO M4 Pro 5G because it has a slightly smaller display.

Display

The Redmi Note 9T 5G and the POCO M4 Pro 5G have two IPS displays that can be placed in the lower-midrange segment as they are not OLED panels but they are able to provide a decent image quality. They come with a Full HD+ resolution and a typical brightness of 450 nits. The POCO M4 Pro 5G is better because it offers a higher refresh rate of 90 Hz, while the Redmi Note 9T 5G has a standard 60 Hz refresh rate. Both the phones feature stereo speakers for a good audio experience and a fingerprint reader mounted at the side, on the power key. Note that POCO M4 Pro 5G has a slightly bigger panel with a diagonal of 6.6 inches (its internal rival has 6.53 inches).

Hardware/Software

The POCO M4 Pro 5G has superior hardware to the Redmi Note 9T 5G: it is powered by the new Mediatek Dimensity 810 processor running at a max frequency of 2.4 GHz and paired with up to 6 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage. You can get the same memory configuration with the Redmi Note 9T 5G, but with a weaker Dimensity 800U processor. There is not a huge difference between these chipsets, that is the reason why the most important difference is the operating system installed out of the box. Redmi Note 9T 5G ships with Android 10 customized by MIUI 12 and it will most likely receive fewer updates from now on, while POCO M4 Pro 5G runs Android 11 out of the box, customized by MIUI 12.5.

Camera

The camera setup of the POCO M4 Pro 5G is way better than Redmi Note 9T 5G. First of all, it features a better main camera: a 50 MP sensor against the 48 MP one found on the Note 9T 5G. Further, while the Redmi Note 9T 5G has two useless 2 MP cameras for macros and depth calculations, the POCO M4 Pro 5G offers a useful 8 MP ultrawide lens, as well as a 16 MP selfie camera which is better than the 13 MP one found on its rival.

Battery

The battery capacity of these two phones is the same: 5000 mAh. But we are confident that POCO M4 Pro 5G can offer a longer battery life due to its chipset built with a 6 nm production process. Further, it has a faster charging technology thanks to 33W power.

Xiaomi POCO M4 Pro 5G vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T 5G: Price

POCO M4 Pro 5G is priced at €229/$259 in its base variant, while you can find the Redmi Note 9T 5G with street prices of about €200/$226 in the European market. We recommend spending €30 more in order to get a phone with better cameras, a higher refresh rate, a superior chipset, faster charging, and Android 11 out of the box.

I recently got a unit of the Realme 7 5G which is actually one of the most affordable 5G phones in the global market. I was impressed by its potentialities and I realized that most people do not even need a higher-end device to get a great user experience and 5G in the same phone. But there are also a lot of other affordable 5G phones in the global market. Among the most interesting ones in the actual market, we got the Redmi Note 9T 5G by Xiaomi and the Galaxy A32 5G by Samsung. We decided to publish this specs comparison because we wanted to help our readers to make the best choice while looking for an affordable 5G phone among the latest ones.

Realme 7 5G vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T 5G vs Samsung Galaxy A32 5G

Design

If we look at the rear sides of these phones, the Samsung Galaxy A32 5G has the most interesting one, at least in my opinion. Its rear cameras are integrated on the back cover without an invasive square-shaped or rectangle-shaped camera module. On the other hand, if we look at the front panel, the Samsung Galaxy A32 5G is the most disappointing because of a lower screen-to-body ratio and the waterdrop notch. With the Realme 7 5G and the Redmi Note 9T 5G you get a higher screen-to-body ratio and a punch-hole design. In each case, you get a side-mounted fingerprint reader.

Display

The display of the Samsung Galaxy A32 5G is all but exciting. It is a below-average TFT LCD panel with a below-average HD+ resolution. You would expect such a display from an entry-level phone, but not a mid-ranger. The Redmi Note 9T 5G sits in the middle with its 6.53-inch IPS display boasting a Full HD+ resolution. The best one is definitely the Realme 7 5G with its Full HD+ display sporting a 120 Hz refresh rate. Besides its very high refresh rate, the Realme 7 5G also offers a higher brightness (the typical brightness is 480 nits, against 450 nits offered by Redmi Note 9T 5G).

Hardware/Software

Not only the best display: Realme 7 5G is even equipped with the best hardware setup. The phone packs the Dimensity 800U chipset by MediaTek, just the Redmi Note 9T 5G, but it ships with more RAM. You get either 6 or 8 GB, while Redmi Note 9T 5G only comes with 4 GB of RAM. The internal storage is 128 GB. The Samsung Galaxy A32 5G loses the comparison again with a Dimensity 720 SoC, but it has 8 GB of RAM, unlike the Redmi Note 9T 5G. Further, Samsung Galaxy A32 5G runs Android 11 out of the box (Realme 7 5G and Redmi Note 9T 5G are still based on Android 10) and it will likely get longer software support.

Camera

The most advanced rear cameras are on board of the Samsung Galaxy A32 5G: it packs a 48 MP main sensor and an 8 MP ultrawide sensor like the Realme 7 5G, but the macro camera has a higher 5 MP resolution (the Realme 7 5G has an inferior 2 MP macro camera). On the other hand, the Realme 7 5G is a better selfie phone with its 16 MP front snapper. Redmi Note 9T 5G is disappointing as it lacks an ultrawide sensor and it has an inferior selfie camera as well.

Battery

Redmi Note 9T 5G, Realme 7 5G, and Samsung Galaxy A32 5G have the same battery capacity: 5000 mAh. But the Samsung Galaxy A32 5G should have a longer battery life because its display has an inferior HD+ resolution. On the other hand, Realme 7 5G charges faster with its 30W fast charging technology.

Price

Realme 7 5G is priced at €279/$339 in the global market, Redmi Note 9T 5G starts from €229/$278, and Samsung Galaxy A32 5G costs €299/$363. The Realme 7 5G wins the comparison due to its better hardware, display, and faster charging.

Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has officially launched the Redmi Note 9T 5G which is the global variant of the Redmi Note 9 5G that was launched in China recently. The company also announced the Redmi 9T packing a Qualcomm chipset.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T 5G packs a 6.53-inch IPS LCD display with an FHD+ resolution of 1080p. The device adopts a waterdrop screen while the rear adopts a vertically aligned quad-camera setup. The display packs 450 nits and has a standard 60Hz refresh rate.

The Redmi Note 9T 5G is powered by a 7nm MediaTek Dimensity 800U chipset paired with 6GB of RAM. The device also comes with 64GB and 128GB storage options. The phone also comes with a splash-proof build as well as dual speakers just like the Chinese version.

For optics, the Redmi Note 9T 5G packs a triple camera setup. The setup includes a 48MP Quad-Bayer sensor with f/1.8 aperture, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro sensor. There is no Ultrawide camera on this model, unlike the China-only Redmi Note 9 5G. At the front, there is a 13MP selfie camera with f/2.25 optics. 

Keeping the lights on is a 5,000mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging. Xiaomi claims up to 3 years of continuous use without significant degradation.

The Redmi Note 9T 5G is available in two colors – Daybreak Purple and Nightfall Black. As for the prices, there is an early bird offer of €199 for the 4GB+64GB version while the 4GB+128GB version comes in at €249. The prices will increase slightly to €229 and €269 respectively after the promo. The models will be available from Xiaomi’s website and also from other third-party retailers.

Redmi 9T – Specs, Features & Pricing

Xiaomi also launched the Redmi 9T for the global market. The device has several features that make it stand out while retaining the affordable pricing for which Xiaomi is known. 

The Redmi 9T features a 6.53-inch IPS LCD with a resolution of 1080p just like the Redmi Note 9T 5G. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor paired with 4GB or 6GB of RAM while there is 64GB or 128GB of storage.

On the camera aspect, the Redmi 9T packs a Quad-camera setup, one sensor higher than the Redmi Note 9T 5G. The camera configuration is the same just the addition of a fourth 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide shooter. The front camera is an 8MP selfie camera.

The battery is a 6000mAh cell, another impressive addition. The phone also supports 18W fast charging. The phone also comes with an infrared sensor, 3.5mm headphone jack, and optional NFC.

As for the price, the Redmi 9T starts at €159 for a 4GB+64GB model (€10 more for NFC) and goes up to €189 for the 4GB+128GB model (again, €10 more for NFC). The price of the topmost 6GB+128GB variant hasn’t been announced. The phone will be available in four colors – Twilight Blue, Sunset Orange, Carbon Gray, and Ocean Green.

The Redmi Note 9T has now appeared on Geekbench further strengthening the belief that it’s a rebadge of China’s Redmi Note9 5G. The listing also suggests that the supposed Global variant will come with an older version of Android.

The latest Geekbench listing of a Xiaomi smartphone with model number M2007J22G appears online. If we recall, a device with a similar model number has already passed Thailand’s NBTC and Malaysia’s SIRIM certifications. Among this, the NBTC revealed that the device would debut as Redmi Note 9T 5G.

Anyway, the device in testing runs 4GB of RAM and has an ARM MT6853T processor. A similar Geekbench of the Redmi Note9 5G before its launch revealed that it’s the MediaTek Dimensity 800U 5G SoC. That said, the 4GB variant doesn’t exist in China as it is selling only in 6/8GB RAM, and 128/256GB UFS 2.2 storage variants.

Besides, the listing also reveals that the Global variant will likely debut with Android 10 OS just like Redmi Note9 5G. Previously, while launching in November, the latter came with MIUI 12 but didn’t carry the latest Android(11). Also, despite sporting a lower RAM, the scores are almost on par with the Chinese variant(single-core- 598, multi-core- 1,760 points).

Redmi Note 9T Specifications(Expected)

The Note 9T 5G will likely feature a 6.53-inch FHD+ LCD display with a top-left punch-hole upfront. At the back, a circular camera layout like the Note9 Pro 5G will hold three sensors with a 48MP main lens, 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP sensor.

Other expected specs include a 5,000mAh battery with 22.5W fast charging, in addition to SA/NSA 5G and other connectivity options.
