Now is the turn for the Galaxy M40 in India. The Galaxy A21s is also getting the One UI 3.1 update in the country.

An OTA update is rolling out to the users of Galaxy M40(SM-M405F) in India. The update with firmware version M405FDDU2CUC6 brings the One UI (Core) 3.1 based on Android 11 to the device.

If you recall, the Galaxy M40 launched in India with Android 9 Pie out of the box. It later got the Android 10 update last year. The Android 11 marks the second major Android upgrade for the device.

Similar to the Galaxy M40, the Galaxy A21s (SM-A217F) also seems to be getting the One UI 3.1 update in India with the CUD4 firmware version. The update seems to pack in March 2021 security patch. This device launched in India last year with Android 10 OS out of the box.

The One UI 3.1 has revamped UI, Private Share, GPS location data removal on Images, more Lock screen widgets, Background Video Calling, improved stock apps, and more, over the One UI 3.0. It’s worth noting that the Galaxy A21s has already received the Android 11 update in South Korea.

Anyway, we can expect Android 11 features like one-time permissions, app permissions auto reset, chat bubbles, conversations section in the notification area on both devices. You can read over extensive coverage to know more about the same.

Additionally, the Galaxy M40 and Galaxy A21s are currently in Samsung’s list of devices that will get security updates every Quarter. We can expect this to continue at least for another year.

If you are someone living in India and own either of these devices, you can try out the update by navigating to Settings > Software update > Download and install.

We are talking about Realme 6 and Redmi Note 9 Pro. The two handsets come with very similar specifications and for this reason, it will be hard for the final consumers to choose the best device depending on their needs. That is why we decided to write a specs comparison. We also brought the Samsung Galaxy M40 to the comparison because it is one of the best-selling and most famous devices available at a similar price. Through this comparison, you will discover the main differences between the three handsets and we will pick a winner after evaluating their specs on the paper.

Design

Despite Realme 6, Redmi Note 9 Pro and Samsung Galaxy M40 are just affordable phones, they have a very interesting design, at least in regards to this period. They all offer a punch-hole screen with very narrow bezels, no notch and well-built bodies. Redmi Note 9 Pro is the best when it comes to materials since it is the only to sport a glass back. But not everyone might like it due to its huge camera module and its bigger dimensions. On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy M40 is a very compact smartphone and it is even the thinnest one. Realme 6 has a beautiful and minimal look, but it is entirely made of polycarbonate (except the display, naturally) like the Samsung Galaxy M40. Note that Realme 6 and Redmi Note 9 Pro are splash resistant, while Samsung Galaxy M40 is not.

Display

Realme 6 boasts the most advanced display. It is one of the few devices delivering a high 90 Hz refresh rate, a very rare feature on affordable phones. Further, it has a high 120 Hz touch-sampling rate. That is why this device is great for gamers and for all users seeking for a smoother viewing experience. Unfortunately (at least for most of the people actually liking AMOLED displays), it has an IPS display. The fingerprint reader is side-mounted. Redmi Note 9 Pro takes the second place with the widest display, an IPS panel with a 6.67-inch diagonal and a Full HD+ resolution.

Specs & Software

If you want the most powerful device able to provide the highest performance, then you should go for the Realme 6 without thinking twice. In terms of CPU and GPU performance, the MediaTek Helio G90T SoC found on the Realme 6 is stronger than the Snapdragon 720G found on the Redmi Note 9 Pro (even though the difference is not huge). But if you want a lower energy consumption and a longer battery life, go for the Redmi Note 9 Pro, it has a chipset built with a better 8 nm production process.

Camera

With the exception of macro shots, Realme 6 may offer a better photo quality. But we can not assure it since we only took a look at the specs on the paper and we still had no chance to test the Redmi Note 9 Pro since it just went official. But we know that Realme 6 has a better main sensor on its quad camera. On the other hand, Redmi Note 9 Pro boasts a better dedicated macro camera.

Battery

Redmi Note 9 Pro Max is the king of battery life with its huge 5020 mAh battery and a chipset built at 8 nm, there is no doubt about it. But with Realme 6, you still get a great battery and way faster charging technology.

Price

Redmi Note 9 Pro starts at €160/$178 in India, Realme 6 is priced €157/$175 in its base variant, while you can find Samsung Galaxy M40 for €200/$222. While Samsung Galaxy M40 loses the comparison under most of the points of view, it is a very close fight between Realme 6 and Redmi Note 9 Pro. Realme 6 has a faster charging, a more powerful chipset, and a better display, that is why we choose it as the winner of this comparison. But Redmi Note 9 Pro will offer a way longer battery life.

This new color option comes with gradient design on the glossy rear panel that extends all the way to the rim running around the edges.

The Cocktail Orange variant of the Galaxy M40 has been launched as an Amazon Specials product as a part of the Prime Day sale. It’s noteworthy that the Galaxy M40 Cocktail Orange is currently limited to the Prime members only but soon be made available for purchase to everyone.

Earlier, the smartphone, which was launched last month, was available in two color options — Midnight Blue and Seawater Blue. With the launch of this Cocktail Orange color, it now comes in three color choices for the buyers. The Samsung Galaxy M40 (Details) is priced at Rs. 19,990 which roughly converts to $286.

The smartphone features a 6.3-inch Full-HD+ Infinity-O Display with 2340 x 1080 pixels screen resolution, a contrast ratio of 1200:1, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, and 480 nits of brightness. The device has ditched the speaker and comes with Screen Sound Technology that pumps out sounds by vibrating the screen.

Under the hood, the handset is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 octa-core processor, paired with Adreno 612 GPU and 6 GB of RAM. As said, this is the first Galaxy M-series smartphone to come powered by the Qualcomm chipset instead of the company’s own Exynos SoC.

It packs 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage and also has a microSD card slot that supports memory expansion of up to 512GB. On the backside, there’s a fingerprint sensor for added security.

For taking selfies and video calling, the smartphone has a 16-megapixel sensor at the front. The phone features a triple rear camera setup that comprises a 32-megapixel primary sensor with an AI scene optimizer and f/1.7 lens, a 5-megapixel secondary depth sensor, and an 8-megapixel tertiary sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens.

That is why we always make specs comparison between the most interesting devices for both the best flagships and value for money phone. Today’s comparison regards the second category of devices and it contains three amazing affordable phones launched in the recent period. The first is Xiaomi Mi CC9e, the most affordable handset from the new Xiaomi line-up. The second is the higher-end model of the entry-level M series by Samsung: the Galaxy M40. The last is Huawei Nova 5i, also known in the global market as the Huawei P20 Lite (2019).

Design

If you bring a unit of these devices to home, you will get a very well-designed handset. Both Samsung Galaxy M40 and Huawei Nova 5i have punch-hole displays, so their bezels are very narrow and there is no need for a notch. Despite Xiaomi Mi CC9e has a more outdated waterdrop display, I prefer this device instead of its punch-hole rivals because of its better rear side and build quality. It has a stunning glass back which creates suggestive light effects depending on the reflection, and it even comes with a solid aluminum frame. Both Samsung Galaxy M40 and Huawei Nova 5i come with plastic in their design, so worse aesthetics and a cheaper build. Xiaomi Mi CC9e also has the most compact body.

Display

Unlike most of the other devices by Samsung, the Galaxy M40 is not equipped with a stunning display. Xiaomi Mi CC9e is disappointing as well because despite it comes with an AMOLED panel, it has a lower 720p resolution than its opponents. And it even comes with a smaller display. Huawei Nova 5i is my favorite one as it sports a better IPS display with high DCI-P3 coverage and a Full HD+ resolution (1080p). So it is better at detail if compared to the Mi CC9e and better at color reproduction than the Galaxy M40.

Specs & Software

While Samsung Galaxy M40 loses both the design and display comparisons, it is definitely the device with the most powerful chipset, so it is potentially faster and more reactive. On the other hand, Huawei Nova 5i has more RAM (up to 8 GB) in its most expensive configuration, but I personally prefer a better SoC for higher overall performances instead of a better multi-tasking experience. Even the Xiaomi Mi CC9e has a better chipset than the Huawei Nova 5i, but it is a slightly less powerful processor than the Snapdragon 675 found on the Galaxy M40, with a worse GPU too. In each case, you get a highly-customized Android fork based on Android 9 Pie out of the box.

Camera

The camera department is definitely the main focus of the Xiaomi Mi CC9e and it is not a case if it wins most of the camera comparisons on its price range, including this one. It rocks a main 48 MP sensor, an ultrawide lens, a 2 MP depth sensor and even an amazing 32 MP front camera with awesome AI algorithms for selfie enhancing. Huawei Nova 5i comes right after with a quad camera including a dedicated macro camera.

Battery

Due to its higher battery capacity, its efficient HD+ display and its smaller size, Xiaomi Mi CC9e is also the winner of the battery comparison. Huawei Nova 5i takes the second spot in the ranking.

Price

Xiaomi Mi CC9e starts from €170/$190, Samsung Galaxy M40 has a €200/$225 starting price and Huawei Nova 5i starts from €260/$295. If we consider the overall specifications, Huawei Nova 5i looks more promising for most of the potential customers due to its better display, big battery, and good cameras. But Xiaomi Mi CC9e has an even better camera, a better builds quality, a more compact size (as well as a smaller display) and even longer battery life, so it may look like the best budget phone for particular niches (especially compact phones lovers and camera phones lovers). Which one would you pick?

The Galaxy M40 is relatively a new phone and so there may not be so many of them in circulation. But if you own one, you can go to the phone’s Software Update menu and see if the M405FDDU1ASG2 firmware is available. The update comes with a size of 378.40MB. If the update is yet to hit your mobile, don’t fret as the rollout may be in batches.

The handset will belong to the midrange segment and it will have a lot of competitive rivals. Its most important rivals from the best Android smartphones manufacturers released this month are the new Galaxy M40 by Samsung announced a few days ago, and the Xiaomi Mi 9T, that is the global version of the Redmi K20. This comparison will let you discover which of these competitive mid-rangers has the highest value for money in 2019.

Design

Not only flagships: now, even midrange devices come with innovative aesthetics. While Huawei P20 Lite 2019 and Samsung Galaxy M40 rock an awesome punch-hole display with a front camera embedded, the Xiaomi Mi 9T has a pop-up camera design. I would personally go for the Xiaomi Mi 9T because of its more stunning glass back, as well as its under-display fingerprint reader which allows the back cover to be cleaner. Further, the motorized slider allows having narrow bezels and no holes or notches in the display. However, note that the Xiaomi Mi 9T is thicker and also heavier than its two rivals.

Display

Even if we talk about displays, Xiaomi Mi 9T takes the first place in this comparison. While both Huawei P20 Lite 2019 and Samsung Galaxy M20 sport a classic LCD panel, Xiaomi Mi 9T has a wonderful AMOLED display with deeper blacks and vivid colors. It is even HDR compliant, a standard which furtherly improves its color reproduction, especially with multimedia content. And, unlike Samsung Galaxy M40 and Huawei P20 Lite 2019, it is protected by the strong Gorilla Glass 5.

Specs & Software

On the hardware side, it is again a victory for the Xiaomi Mi 9T. Under the hood, the handset sports an amazing Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chipset. Not the best Qualcomm’s chipset as this device is just a mid-ranger, but it rocks the most incredible Qualcomm’s SoC in the midrange sector with the best midrange GPU. Right behind it, we got the Samsung Galaxy M40 with its Snapdragon 675 which is more or less at the same level as the Snapdragon 710 (worse GPU, better CPU). Huawei P20 Lite 2019 still comes with the old Kirin 710 chipset (comparable to the Snapdragon 660). All of them come with Android 9 Pie out of the box and a customized user interface.

Camera

You may call me a Xiaomi fan, but we tested Xiaomi Mi 9T’s camera and we found it amazing, can not deny it. On the paper, it is way better than the camera departments from both the Galaxy M40 and the Huawei P20 Lite 2019, despite the latter sports a quad camera setup. Xiaomi Mi 9T has a similar setup to the vanilla Mi 9 with a 48 MP Sony main sensor, an ultrawide 13 MP lens and a telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom.

Battery

Thanks to their big 4000 mAh batteries, Huawei P20 Lite 2019 and Xiaomi Mi 9T will most likely provide a longer battery life than Galaxy M40. We believe that Xiaomi Mi 9T will last more than Huawei P20 Lite 2019 due to its AMOLED display and its efficient Snapdragon 730 chipset.

Price

The prices of these handsets strictly depend on the markets. Samsung Galaxy M40 starts from about €260/$292, Huawei P20 Lite 2019 costs €280/$315, while Xiaomi Mi 9T comes with a €300/$337 initial price. Overall, we suggest you spend a bit more to grab a unit of the Xiaomi Mi 9T as it is a way better handset than the others in this trio.
