Earlier this year, Samsung introduced the “Maintenance Mode” for its Galaxy smartphones in the Korean market. Now, the feature is finally making its way to the global market. Samsung also started rolling out One UI 5 update for its flagship Galaxy S22 series earlier this week.

Maintenance mode

Users will be able to set up alternative user accounts to handle core tasks without having access to personal data when they turn in their device for repair. The person in charge of the device is prevented from accessing their private data, such as pictures, messages, contacts, or user-installed apps, when Maintenance Mode is enabled.

Any data or accounts created during Maintenance Mode are automatically removed when the owner exits the mode. They will be allowed to download apps from the Galaxy Store, but as soon as the owner exits Maintenance Mode, those apps, together with any data or accounts made, will be erased.

To enable this mode, go to Settings > Battery and device care menu > enable “Maintenance Mode.”

The smartphone needs to be restarted after the mode has been enabled. According to Samsung, Knox, the company’s defense-grade security platform that offers multi-layered protection, powers this feature.

Select One UI 5 compatible models will start receiving this new feature over the next months. By 2023, more Galaxy devices will be made accessible as part of the rollout.
