<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The Galaxy A50 was one of the first devices in the new revamped Galaxy A series of budget smartphones. It </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/02/28/samsung-galaxy-a50-a30-and-a10-unveiled-in-india-specifications-features-and-price/"><span style="font-weight: 400">debuted in early 2019</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> with One UI based on Android Pie. It was later updated to </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Android-10/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Android 10</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">-based One UI 2.0.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Just like most Samsung budget handsets, the Galaxy A50 is eligible for quarterly monthly security updates. Surprisingly, although there are plenty of other smartphones under this category, the more than a year old Galaxy 50 happens to receive the October 2020 security patch first.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">That said, the update for the </span><b>SM-A505FN</b><span style="font-weight: 400"> variant of this phone </span><a href="https://www.sammobile.com/news/galaxy-a50-wins-race-to-october-2020-security-update/"><span style="font-weight: 400">comes</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> with firmware version </span><b>A505FNXXS5BTI9</b><span style="font-weight: 400"> and weighs around 123MB in size. As expected, the changelog for this update only mentions “</span><i><span style="font-weight: 400">The security of your device has been improved</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400">”.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">To know the exact changes, we will have to wait until </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Samsung/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Samsung</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> updates its monthly security bulletin board. Having said that, we expect the other variants of this phone to get this update in the coming days.</span></p>

Unlike previous updates that have mostly just been security patches, this new one brings a new feature &#8211; support for Digital Wellbeing.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-239377" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Essential-PH-1-Digital-Wellbeing-update.jpg?x44794" alt="Essential PH-1 Digital Wellbeing update" width="1255" height="2048" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Essential-PH-1-Digital-Wellbeing-update.jpg 1255w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Essential-PH-1-Digital-Wellbeing-update-184x300.jpg 184w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Essential-PH-1-Digital-Wellbeing-update-768x1253.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Essential-PH-1-Digital-Wellbeing-update-628x1024.jpg 628w" sizes="(max-width: 1255px) 100vw, 1255px" /></p>
<p>Digital Wellbeing was exclusive to the Pixels and Android One phones for a while but it has now started arriving on other Android devices.</p>
<p>The Essential PH-1 is the latest phone to get the new feature which lets you track the time spent on each app, the number of notifications you get per day and the number of times you unlock your device.</p>
<p>Digital Wellbeing also lets you set timers for your apps. When the timer ends, the app is paused for the rest of the day. There is also a “Wind Down” mode which when activated turns the screen to grayscale, so you can fall asleep easily.</p>
<p>The update also brings March 2019&#8242; security patch to the 2017 device. It is less than 100MB in size and is already rolling out globally.</p>

<p>Now that Digital Wellbeing is out of the way, we hope the next update brings support for ARCore.</p>
