<p>A recent Geekbench listing for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra revealed that the device will come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, featuring an overclocked CPU. Known leaker Ice Universe claimed that these are &#8220;exclusive high frequency version&#8221; of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/gsmarena_001-3-1024x576.jpg?x96268" alt="Samsung" class="wp-image-495588" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/gsmarena_001-3-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/gsmarena_001-3-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/gsmarena_001-3-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/gsmarena_001-3-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/gsmarena_001-3-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/gsmarena_001-3-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/gsmarena_001-3.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>For context, the CPU frequencies of the Samsung-exclusive Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chips are 3.36GHz for the prime core, 2.80GHz for the performance cores, and 2.02GHz for the efficiency cores. In contrast, the official frequency for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 prime core announced by Qualcomm is 3.1872GHz.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Samsung’s special edition Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (we don’t know its official name yet) CPU 3.2GHz→3.36GHz. Surprisingly, the GPU is also increased from 680MHz to 719MHz</p>&mdash; Ice universe (@UniverseIce) <a href="https://twitter.com/UniverseIce/status/1593558265434370048?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">November 18, 2022</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p>Now, the leaker has come back with more news regarding the Samsung-exclusive chipset, saying that not only the CPU on the SoC will be overclocked, but the same will be the case for the GPU. According to Ice, the Adreno 740 GPU on the Galaxy S23 devices will be clocked at 719 MHz compared to the 680 MHz unit on the regular variant. It is currently unknown if there will be a change in the naming scheme for these higher frequency chips or if they will simply be called Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.</p>

<p>Talking about generational improvements, Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2&#8217;s CPU is 35% faster than its 8 Gen 1 counterpart, and the GPU is 25% faster. Additionally, the GPU also has hardware-backed ray tracing capabilities. This new chip version ought to be significantly quicker given the overclock to both. However, it is difficult to determine how much faster it will be in real-world scenarios.</p>

Ahead of any official announcement, a new leak suggests the chip will come in an ultra-high frequency version with a CPU clock speed of 3.4-3.5GHz.</p>
<p>Popular leakster <a href="https://weibo.com/6048569942/M5Rgvw2gR?pagetype=profilefeed">Digital Chat Station</a> has revealed in a Weibo post that the alleged Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC will have an ultra-high frequency variant with a clock speed between 3.4 and 3.5GHz. For reference, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1&#8217;s Prime core runs at 3.19 GHz.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_428371" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-428371" style="width: 1080px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-428371" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/20211201133051.jpg?x96268" alt="Snapdragon 8 Gen 1" width="1080" height="671" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/20211201133051.jpg 1080w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/20211201133051-300x186.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/20211201133051-768x477.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/20211201133051-1024x636.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/20211201133051-356x220.jpg 356w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/20211201133051-696x432.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/20211201133051-1068x664.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/20211201133051-676x420.jpg 676w" sizes="(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-428371" class="wp-caption-text">Snapdragon 8 Gen 1</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>The GPU of the processor will also see a significant improvement compared to its predecessor. The extreme GPU performance in Android flagships will finally be on par with the performance of Apple A-series chips, claimed the leaker.</p>
<p>The purported ultra-high frequency variant could be called the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2. It is expected to follow a 1+2+2+3 quad-cluster architecture and will likely be fabbed on TSMC’s 4nm process node.</p>
<p>The chipset could feature 1 x Kryo Prime CPU (Arm Cortex-X3-based), 2 x Kryo Performance CPUs (A720-based), 2 x Kryo Performance CPUs (A710-based), and 3x Kryo Efficiency CPUs (A510-based). It is also expected to sport an Adreno 740 GPU.</p>
<p>As per previous reports, the Xiaomi 13 series, Redmi K60 series, iQOO 11 series, and Vivo X90 series could be the early adopters of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor.</p>
<p>Furthermore, the tipster suggested that the next chip from MediaTek&#8217;s Dimensity series would offer another impressive performance leap, potentially closing the gap between Dimensity and Snapdragon.</p>
