Twitch, the popular live-streaming platform, has just announced a game-changing update: Affiliate streamers are now invited to join the elite Partner Program, paving the way for more creators to earn significantly higher income.

This will attract a lot of new streamers to the platform

Previously, the Twitch Partner Program was an exclusive club for the top-tier streamers, offering them a more lucrative slice of the revenue pie. But starting May 1, this privilege is being extended to Affiliates under the revamped Partner Plus Program. This shift is a huge win for smaller streamers, who often find climbing the Twitch ladder a challenging feat.

Under the new structure, Affiliates can access the higher 70/30 revenue share, previously a Partner-only benefit, by accumulating 300 Plus points – down from 350. They can also opt for a 60/40 share by maintaining 100 Plus points over three months. This means more money in the pockets of Affiliates for their hard work and dedication.

Echoing Warner Bros. Discovery’s rebranding of HBO Max to Max, Twitch is simplifying the name of its expanded program to ‘Plus Program.’ This move signifies a broader, more inclusive approach, reflecting Twitch’s evolving landscape where streamers of varying sizes can thrive equally.

The cherry on top? Twitch is axing the $100k cap on the 70/30 revenue share. This change addresses long-standing concerns among streamers about earning limits and is a clear nod to their feedback. This seems like a move to retain its massive streamer base

On the surface, this move appears counterintuitive for Twitch. One would think that by allowing users to stream elsewhere, Twitch is essentially eroding its own viewer base. So why make such a drastic change? It’s likely a calculated risk to retain top talent in the live-streaming space.

In recent times, some big names such as Ludwig have ditched Twitch for competitor platforms like YouTube. Twitch gets inspired by Instagram and adds Stories

Earlier today (17th October 2023), Twitch officially announced that it is bringing a new social feature. The company is rolling out Stories for the mobile application of its popular live streaming platform. So here are all the details.

Is Twitch becoming a new social media platform?

With the new announcement, Twitch has added a social feature that is clearly inspired by popular social media platforms like Snapchat and Instagram. This feature works just like the one on other social media and allows streamers to upload pictures, texts, or videos that expire after 48 hours. As per official notes, the move is aimed at helping creators reach out to their audience and help them stay connected even when they are offline.

The feature was first teased back in July and is finally rolling out. Initially, the feature will only be accessible to Twitch affiliates and partners. Although they will need to have streamed at least once in the last 30 days to gain access to the stories feature. So now, every user with the latest version of the application will be able to see the stories at the top of the ‘Following’ page.

Keep in mind, that creators also need to have at least 30 subscribers to be able to make subscriber only stories. Twitch has also recommended that you use this feature to add “more value to your supporters’ subscriptions through exclusive content.” It added that “Viewers will see your stories live alongside stories created by other streamers they follow, so post regularly throughout the week to keep your community in-the-know and up-to-date between your streams.

Twitch CEO Emmett Shear Steps Down as CEO After 16 Years

Twitch CEO Emmett Shear has announced that he is stepping down from his position immediately, citing personal reasons as the primary cause for his departure. Dan Clancy, who currently serves as Twitch’s President, will take over as CEO, with Shear staying on in an advisory role.

In a blog post explaining his decision, Shear said that the birth of his first child had prompted him to reflect on his future with Twitch. As a result, he felt that the platform had grown to the point where it no longer required his constant attention and that he was ready to tackle new challenges.

Shear expressed his gratitude towards Amazon, which acquired Twitch in 2014, for their support and for allowing the platform to grow and flourish. Shear also took a moment to reminisce about the origins of Twitch, which began as a project in 2006 to create a 24/7 live reality TV show about Justin Kan’s life. After gamers started using the site to broadcast their gameplay, the company launched the dedicated Twitch.tv service in 2011, and officially renamed itself Twitch Interactive in 2014.

Prior to Shear’s departure, he was the last co-founder still at the company. Amazon’s latest GameOn is a Twitch-like gaming platform for Android users

Amazon has just launched a Twitch-like platform for Android users, called GameOn. Twitch is a leading video game streaming platform where gamers and other internet personalities can build up a fan base to watch and support them online, real-time during games. The platform was acquired by Amazon in 2014, and since then, the two brands have combined to offer more content and satisfaction to users.

In April 2020, Twitch Watch Parties was introduced, which allows gamers and their audience to watch Amazon Prime movies together live. The Twitch Watch Parties came at an auspicious time, as the world was still grappling with a perfect response for the Coronavirus pandemic, and total lockdowns were in force in most countries. Of course, movie theatres and all social engagements took a hit. The introduction of the party feature thus assuaged the feelings of moviegoers globally.

Amazon has now introduced a new platform, seemingly unrelated to Twitch, called GameOn, Amazon GameOn allows Android gamers to share their gaming moments with the GameOn community in the form of short video clips. For now, there is no live streaming of games, unlike Twitch.

The GameOn app is available on Google Play store, for Android users, and Amazon App store, for Amazon tablet users. The app allows the user to record gameplay videos in a similar manner to the screen recorder that is present in android phones. Simultaneously, the user can also record his reactions to the game being played, using the phone’s front camera, and this process is called “Facecam”. The duration of record clips is between 30 seconds and 5 minutes. The app is also capable of simple video editing, and lets users share their recordings with its community.

For interested gamers, weekly challenges pop up in the GameOn app, and hundreds of free mobile games on the Android operating system are well interfaced with it.
