If you enjoy running, you’re bound to be disappointed with the current conditions that prevent you from getting out. Whether it’s raining or snowing, the temperature can be either too hot or too cold outside. Or maybe it’s simply because you’re in a bad mood and don’t want to go out. This is when you consider buying a treadmill. But there are a couple of things that stop people from getting a treadmill.

First, it’s rare that you can’t go out for a jog, and second, a treadmill takes up a lot of space.

We previously did a review video of a foldable treadmill, the WalkingPad R1 Pro, which was a great solution to the above problem. Two years later, WalkingPad has launched its updated version, the WalkingPad R2. As it happens, we have both WalkingPads and this video looks at the differences between the R1 Pro and R2.

Many of the core specifications of the WalkingPad R2 are the same as those of the R1 Pro. For example, they both use brushless motors. The Racetrack is still made of four different layers of material. And a good racetrack will protect your knees during jogging. There are also two wheels at the bottom. But the R2’s wheels are more protruding and easier for you to move around. Both Safety clips and remote controls are the same. Even the remotes can be interchanged. The most important foldable feature – its foldable mechanism, has not been changed much in the R2. Probably the WalkingPad team felt that this was the best way to fold it. Twist, pull them open, and use them in just three steps. In terms of functionality, there is no difference between the R1 Pro and the R2.

So you must be curious, where exactly has the WalkingPad R2 been upgraded?

The first difference you can easily see is the design of the R2, which has a more squared-off look, with a lot of right-angle aesthetic design, and a new screen design with more curves, which makes the R2 look even better. Of course, it doesn’t just look beautiful, it’s also much more comfortable to use. The WalkingPad R2 has a brighter screen than the R1 Pro and uses a dark acrylic background, which looks more premium. When we unfold them and take a closer look, many design details have been changed. Although the racetrack has not been upgraded, it has been made with a non-slip design next to the pedal. When you need to take a break, these rubber dots help you to stand more safely on them. Not only has the pedal been upgraded, but the material of the handrails has also been changed from the previous aluminum to Steel, enhancing the stability of the whole handrail. The Built quality of the R2 has gotten even better.

When you raise the handrail to its highest level and shake it with your hand, the difference in stability is very obvious. Also, the handle is thoughtfully designed with finger protection, when you press down fully there is a large gap to prevent you from pinching your own fingers. Handrail knobs have also been made larger for easier handling.

Let’s move up to the handrail storage box, which has also been upgraded. The R1 Pro’s storage box can only hold your phone in a vertical position. If you have a large phone with a large lens, you may not be able to fit it horizontally. You can’t put anything else in there. But the R2 storage box is not just for placing your phone at any angle, you can also put your drinks, snacks, safety clips, and remote controls on it. And because the R2 handrail is more stable, you don’t have to worry about anything falling off.

After a few days of use, I still prefer the WalkingPad R2’s Auto mode, which is also available on the R1 Pro and adapts to your walking speed when you use it. When your foot is in the front half of the racetrack, it speeds up. When your foot is in the back half, it slows down. This way you can do without the remote control and free your hands. Adjust the speed according to what you are doing. When you’re replying to a message, for example, it can be slower. When you’re watching a video, it can be faster. When you’re concentrating on running, you can run at up to 6 km/h. If you want, use it with a standing desk, and you can even work out at home while you work.

Using a treadmill like WalkingPad R2 in the right way can help alleviate issues associated with a sedentary lifestyle. This mode may be a little hard to use for the first time, but once you get used to it, I’m sure you’ll love it.

You can easily see that the WalkingPad R2 is actually a slightly upgraded version of the R1 Pro. The R2 has a better built quality and is much more beautiful. And many of the designs are more user-friendly. If you don’t think you need all these upgrades, then the R1 Pro, which has the same core features but is cheaper, is actually a very good choice.

Xiaomi Youpin is the Chinese brand’s crowdfunding platform and home to several amazing products that are launched in China. Last year, the brand made its debut outside China with the launch of the WalkingPad R1 Pro and Oclean X for the international market on Indiegogo. The crowdfunding exercises were hugely backed and that has prompted the company to launch an improved model of the foldable treadmill dubbed WalkingPad S1.

The WalkingPad S1 is an upgraded version of the WalkingPad R1 and it is 20lbs lighter than the previous version. It also takes up to 45% less space than the older model and operational noise has been minimized for a calm workout session. The frame and running belt are also manufactured using premium materials of the frame and the running belt.

The design is similar to that of its predecessor and it includes the patented 180-degree foldable design that allows the WalkingPad S1 to be easily stored anywhere. Once folded, it takes less than 95% of space, and you can store it either vertically or horizontally at home or in your office.

This time around, Xiaomi is offering the WalkingPad S1 with front handles to provide additional balance to keep you safe while you exercise. The handlebar is sold separately and is of immense importance to senior users to help maintain safety. Even without the handlebar, the WalkingPad S1 comes with an in-built safety system to ensure your safety while working out. The S1 will automatically stop if no movements were detected on the running belt.

Also, the anti-slip mat is made out of EVA material which has less friction coefficient when exercising. The device can also be controlled using the remote control or the KS Fit App. Alternatively, it can be controlled by walking, and the Feet Sensory Speed Control Technology will adjust your speed automatically by monitoring the pace of your movement in real-time.

Furthermore, there is an LED touch panel on the front of the WalkingPad S1 provides which shows a clear summary of your workout speed and data. In this era of smart devices, consumers are always looking for gadgets that are convenient and easy to use. And as we lean towards a sedentary lifestyle, we have to actively take care of our health.

Treadmills are an excellent option for staying fit, but they need a dedicated space as well as a significant upfront investment. This is where the Xiaomi Youpin backed WalkingPad R1 Pro comes to your rescue. It solves two major issues associated with traditional treadmills: bulky and heavy form factor and expensive price tag.

WalkingPad R1 Pro Hands-on: Design

The WalkingPad R1 Pro is a foldable new-age treadmill that’s super-portable too. Yes, I said portable, because the R1 Pro folds in two stages to convert itself into the size of a long but extremely thin suitcase. It’s so thin that storing it under your sofa or beside your cupboard is a cakewalk. It will even fit inside your car boot, which can be extremely handy if you travel often.

The WalkingPad R1 Pro features an aluminum alloy frame with EVA cushioning that softens the impact on your knees while walking/ running. The treadmill is comprised of two major parts: Deck & Handle. The deck is the heart of the treadmill which features the anti-slip running belt and the motor. The handle is added for balance and safety. You can fold the deck in half in the middle and lift it up to line up with the handle. The handle is further retractable and the treadmill folds down into a suitcase-sized device. WalkingPad team claims that this design saves space by nearly 90 percent! Plus, the treadmill comes with rolling wheels which makes it very easy to move it around the house.

Thanks to this design, the WalkingPad Pro R1 can be used practically anywhere right from your small bedroom, office, balcony, or even a yard. You should have no trouble using it outdoors provided you have a power outlet nearby.

WalkingPad R1 Pro Hands-on: Features

Despite its super-compact form factor, the WalkingPad Pro doesn’t compromise on traditional treadmill features. The treadmill has two modes: Walking & Running and the company offers several ways to control it.

For example, you can connect your smartphone (via KS Fit app) to the treadmill to use it as a control panel. This would make for a solid setup especially when you place the phone or the tablet in the holder provided on the handle. Or you can use the provided remote button to control the speed. Finally, the WalkingPad Pro also comes with feet control, wherein you can simply change the position of your feet on the belt to increase, decrease, or maintain your speed.

The treadmill also comes with an LED display on the front will show you essential features such as running speed, distance covered, and workout time. It’s nothing fancy but gets the job done. The maximum speed in the running mode is 6.2 miles per hour (10kmph) and in the walking mode, it is 3.75mph (6kmph). The handle helps you keep your balance and there’s a safety clip too (just like a regular treadmill) that acts as an emergency stop in case you lose your balance.

WalkingPad R1 Pro Hands-on: Price

The WalkingPad R1 Pro is currently available on IndieGoGo for $429 with worldwide free shipping. The project has already crossed 6743% of its initial goal with a few hours left. That’s an extremely competitive price, so make sure to check out their project for more details.

Xiaomi Youpin is the Chinese brand’s crowdfunding platform and home to several amazing products that are launched in China. Most times when we report about the launch of a new product on the platform, there are usually comments and sometimes we get emails from potential buyers trying to find out how to buy the products. Xiaomi is aware of this and has made a big move aimed at bringing the crowdfunding products to the international market. That it has done by launching the Xiaomi Youpin crowdfunding page on Indiegogo. What better product to kickstart what promises to be an eventful journey than the WalkingPad R1 Pro and Oclean X Sonic Toothbrush?

The WakingPad R1 Pro is an upgraded version of the WalkingPad Mini Walk smart treadmill that was first launched in May 2018. The product turned out to be a popular one in China and outside where it became available via third-party e-tailers like GearBest. The product was even used to scam many potential buyers of their money on fictitious retail websites.

This model is developed with running and walking modes, unlike its predecessors which support just walking mode. WalkingPad R1 Pro is 90% space-saving than the traditional treadmill and can be easily folded and stored with the help of double folding design and smooth-rolling wheels. The WalkingPad was also reshaped with the addition of a balancing handle and extending the deck for a better running experience.

As a reminder, the Oclean X has as its biggest feature the oval-shaped coloured touchscreen display. From the display, you can view the time, weather, choose brushing mode, check dental health information, brushing feedbacks and so on, so that brushing teeth become more scientific, effective and simple. The touch experience is very user-friendly and responsive.

The smart touch screen electric toothbrush brings a more intuitive information display and interactive experience such that you don’t have to go through a smartphone app to monitor the brushing pattern but it can be viewed directly on the screen. The toothbrush also comes with Bluetooth 4.0 support and is compatible with phones running Android 4.4 or iOS 8.0 and higher. Thus, it can also be paired to a smartphone in case you need to view the parameter on a larger screen. On the mobile app, you can also view more details as the blind zones are divided into 8 zones.
