<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Xiaomi</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> is reserving that title to its </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-12-ultra/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Xiaomi 12 Ultra</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">, in which Xiaomi pours in their best tech into creating the “Ultra” Xiaomi smartphone. And new info has confirmed the existence of the Xiaomi 12 Ultra device, as well as its model number.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The news comes from </span><a href="https://xiaomiui.net/exclusive-xiaomi-12-ultra-spotted-on-imei-database-7121/"><span style="font-weight: 400">xiaomiui.net</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">. They have recently spotted the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-12-ultra/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Xiaomi 12 Ultra</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> in Xiaomi’s IMEI database, bearing the model number Xiaomi 2206122SC, and with an internal reference name of Xiaomi L2S. For context, the L2 model number belonged to the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-12-pro/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Xiaomi 12 Pro</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">. Therefore, it can be deduced that the Xiaomi L2S belongs in the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-12/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Xiaomi 12</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> series. But why does the name indicate that it will be a Xiaomi 12 Ultra? Why not a Xiaomi 12 Lite or Xiaomi 12 SE?</span></p>
<figure id="attachment_444462" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-444462" style="width: 768px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-444462" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Xiaomi-12-Ultra-IMEI-Database.jpg?x10805" alt="Xiaomi-12-Ultra-IMEI-Database" width="768" height="153" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Xiaomi-12-Ultra-IMEI-Database.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Xiaomi-12-Ultra-IMEI-Database-300x60.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Xiaomi-12-Ultra-IMEI-Database-696x139.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-444462" class="wp-caption-text">Xiaomi 12 Ultra listed in IMEI Database with <span style="font-weight: 400">model number 2206122SC</span></figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The reason is that in 2020, the model number Xiaomi J1 (M2001J1C) belonged to the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-mi-10-pro-5g/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Mi 10 Pro</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">. The model number of Xiaomi J1S (M2007J1SC), which came out 6 months after the Mi 10 Pro, belonged to the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-mi-10-ultra/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Mi 10 Ultra</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">. Therefore if </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Xiaomi</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> follows its internal codename naming scheme, the market name of the device with model number L2S should be the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-12-ultra/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Xiaomi 12 Ultra</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Although the Xiaomi 12 Ultra has been added into </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Xiaomi</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">’s IMEI database, no specs such as the processor, memory configurations nor camera setup were listed within the listing. <p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-439535 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/xiaomi-12-pro-12s-derivative-model-dcs.png?x10805" alt="xiaomi 12 pro 12s derivative model dcs" width="961" height="225" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/xiaomi-12-pro-12s-derivative-model-dcs.png 961w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/xiaomi-12-pro-12s-derivative-model-dcs-300x70.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/xiaomi-12-pro-12s-derivative-model-dcs-768x180.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/xiaomi-12-pro-12s-derivative-model-dcs-696x163.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 961px) 100vw, 961px" /></p>
<p>L2S is obviously not the final name of the device and the mysterious model is currently undergoing testing, meaning a launch could be expected in the coming months. The phone has been declared a derivative because of its model number &#8212; L2S only got an &#8216;S&#8217; on top of Xiaomi 12 Pro&#8217;s L2 official nickname. Some netizens have thus already given the upcoming device an unofficial &#8216;Xiaomi 12S&#8217; moniker.</p>
<p>While other details about the L2S are still in the dark, we do know that it will be packing a slightly upgraded version of the standard <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/Snapdragon-8-Gen-1">Snapdragon 8 Gen 1</a> that the Xiaomi 12 Pro comes with. The already released 8 Gen 1, codenamed SM8450, uses Samsung&#8217;s 4nm manufacturing process and many feel it&#8217;s inferior to TMSC&#8217;s 4nm process.</p>
<figure id="attachment_435087" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-435087" style="width: 696px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="size-large wp-image-435087" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Xiaomi-12-Pro-review-22-1024x576.png?x10805" alt="Xiaomi 12 Pro review 22" width="696" height="392" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Xiaomi-12-Pro-review-22-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Xiaomi-12-Pro-review-22-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Xiaomi-12-Pro-review-22-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Xiaomi-12-Pro-review-22-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Xiaomi-12-Pro-review-22-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Xiaomi-12-Pro-review-22-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Xiaomi-12-Pro-review-22.png 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-435087" class="wp-caption-text">Xiaomi 12 Pro</figcaption></figure>
<p>On the other hand, the upgraded 8 Gen 1 (SM8475) will likely be built using the TMSC process, meaning it could bring about better performance.</p>
<p>The present version of the chip has already come under fire for alleged overheating and throttling issues, which have even resulted in some really <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/01/24/dimensity-9000-apparently-crushes-snapdragon-8-gen-1-on-geekbench-5/">lackluster Geekbench 5 scores</a> &#8212; something that the SM8475 will hopefully be improving on.</p>
<p>If the Xiaomi L2S indeed becomes a reality, then it will take the tally up for the Xiaomi 12 series to a total of four models. The series is currently comprised of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/12/28/xiaomi-12-xiaomi-12-pro-and-xiaomi-12x-phones-officially-launched/">Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro, and Xiaomi 12X</a>, and there&#8217;s even an <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/01/21/xiaomi-12-ultra-dominate-dxomark-rankings/">Ultra model</a> in the works.</p>
