Xiaomi is expected to take the wraps off the Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition on August 11 in China. The flagship will debut alongside the K30 Ultra and other unnamed products. Ahead of the launch event, the Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition which will also be known as Mi 10 Ultra has made an appearance on GeekBench. 

The device appears as Xiaomi M2007J1SC and a search on our database shows that the model has previously appeared on GeekBench and several other certification websites. It appeared on GeekBench first on July 31 and also was spotted on AnTuTu benchmark. The device was previously thought to bear the moniker Mi 10 Pro Plus but with Xiaomi’s latest confirmation, we now know the actual name.

It has consistently been listed as packing a Snapdragon 865+ processor. The single-core score of 901 and multi-core score of 3275 is consistent with those of other SD 865+ models. This recent GeekBench listing further shows that the device will have a massive 16GB of RAM onboard.  10 Extreme Commemorative Edition.

The renders of the Mi 10 Ultra leaked over the weekend showing the device will have a Quad-camera setup at the rear including a square periscope lens that can achieve 120x zoom. The other sensors include a 108MP main camera, 20MP super wide-angle and a8MP telephoto sensor.

Furthermore, the device is expected to come with an FHD+ resolution AMOLED display which supports 120Hz refresh rate. It will also pack a 4500mAh battery and will have support for 100W or 120W ultra-fast wired charging. There is also a rumour that the Mi 10 Ultra will have an under-screen camera on board, an industry first, but we don’t know about that yet.

Xiaomi has scheduled an event for August 11 in China to launch a number of products celebrating the 10th anniversary of the company. The star of the show will be Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition aka Mi 10 Ultra. Last night, Lei Jun, the CEO and co-founder of the firm revealed the motive behind this unique branding.

The upcoming Mi 10 Ultra is expected to be the fastest charging smartphone of 2020. Also, it is said to offer granular control over GPU in partnership with Qualcomm. Even the company is teasing it to be its most powerful smartphone yet.

But there is a commotion among netizens regarding why the device is not called Mi 10 Pro Plus like P40 Pro Plus, which is Huawei’s ultimate flagship smartphone of H1 2020. To clear everyone’s doubts, the CEO of Xiaomi posted an FAQ on Weibo explaining the branding, availability, and price.

Why Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition (Mi 10 Ultra)?

Lei Jun has been describing the forthcoming Mi 10 series phone as a “超大杯” (super big cup/oversized cup). In China, this term is used for premium flagship smartphones. Secondly, the company is launching it to celebrate its 10th year anniversary. Also, they wanted to give it a Chinese name.

Hence, he chose two names for the device and combined them. The first part of the branding says “至尊” (Extreme/Supreme) as it will be a powerful smartphone (super big cup). Whereas, the second-word “纪念” (commemorate/celebrate) is being used to describe it as the product for the 10th year anniversary.

Further, he revealed that they will be simply calling it “Mi 10 Ultra” for global markets. Probably because the original branding it too long and confusing for international customers.

Talking about availability, he said that they have enough stock to fulfil the demand but still asks fans to pre-order just in case to get first dibs on it. Lastly, he hinted the pricing to be premium.

So don’t expect Xiaomi’s powerful smartphone to be cheaper compared to premium handsets from its competitors as well as its own lineup.

Update: Reliable tipster Digital Chat Station shared a screengrab of a Jingdong listing. It reveals that the handset named Redmi K30 Extreme Commemorative Edition also exists. It could be the M2006J10C phone that recently appeared with full specs and images on TENAA. It was previously believed to debut as Redmi K30 Ultra.

Earlier this week, Xiaomi confirmed that it will be holding a virtual event on Aug. 11. However, it did not share any details on the products that will be announced on the said date. Rumors are rife that Xiaomi’s new Mi 10 series flagship will be made official through the event. The Xiaomi Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition seems to be the M2007J1SC handset that was certified by the 3C authority last month. Recently, the Xiaomi phone was spotted at benchmarking platforms like AnTuTu and Geekbench.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition may sport a curved AMOLED display of 6.67 inches. The punch-hole screen may support a 120Hz refresh rate. It is unclear whether the phone is powered by Snapdragon 865 or the latest Snapdragon 865+ SoC. The SoC could be equipped with 12 GB of RAM.

The device will be housing a 4,500mAh dual-cell battery. Apart from carrying support for 120W fast charging, it is speculated that it will come with support for 55W super-fast wireless charging technology.

The rear shell of the Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition could be sporting a 48-megapixel main lens on its back. It could be coupled with an ultrawide lens that can also capture macro shots. The camera setup may include a periscope zoom lens for high-definition zoom. It could be capable of shooting 10-bit 8K resolution videos in HDR10.
