Sony launched the Xperia XZ2 duo back in April in China. At the time of launch, the smaller sibling, the Xperia XZ2 was priced at 5999 Yuan (~$954). Despite the flagship grade specs, this was an exorbitant price considering the competitive nature of the Chinese market as well as the availability of better options. However, just under four months of its release, the Xperia XZ2 is selling for nearly $300 less than its official price tag. China’s leading retailer, JD.com is currently offering the phone for just 3999 Yuan ($584) which is a massive price cut in such a short time span!

At present, only the 6+64GB variant seems to be on sale and you can get it in just one color: Liquid Black. Other colors namely liquid silver, deep green, and ash pink are currently listed as out of stock. After this price cut, the Xperia XZ2 turns out to be a competitive option for high-end buyers.

The phone comes with a double-glass sandwich design featuring a 3D curved back to enhance the grip and a metal frame in the middle. Powered by the top-end Snapdragon 845 chipset inside, the phone features a beautiful 5.7-inch 2160x1080p display with  TRILUMINOS, X-Reality Engine and HDR. The XZ2 features a single 19MP motion eye camera which can record 4K HDR and 960 fps slo-mo videos. Other notable features include 3060mAh battery, IP68 water and dust resistance, QC 3.0, Wireless charging, and Android 8.0 Oreo.

Sony’s sales have been dwindling in the past few years with the company even planning to revise its initial estimate from 10 million smartphone sales in 2018 to 9 million after a disappointing Q2 2018. In comparison, the company had sold over 22 million smartphones in 2017.

The Xperia XZ2 is priced at Rs. 72,990 (approximately $1,062) in India and will be available in Liquid Black color. It will be available for purchase from 1st August through Sony Centre and select mobile stores across the nation.

The smartphone features a 5.7-inch Full HD+ HDR display with screen resolution of 2160 x 3840 pixels. It features TRILUMINOS and X-Reality, making it one of the best display on a flagship smartphone. The display is protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass 5 on top.

Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor along with Adreno 630 GPU. It packs 6GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage along with a microSD card slot support that enables users to further expand the phone’s storage capacity up to 400GB.

As for the optics, there’s a 19-megapixel rear camera with Exmor RS sensor, f/2.0 aperture, predictive capture, 5-axis stabilization, 4K video recording support and 960fps slow-motion video support. On the front side, it comes equipped with a 5-megapixel snapper with Exmor RS sensor, 23mm super wide-angle lens, and f/2.2 aperture.

The device comes with IP65/IP68 certification, ensuring water and dust resistance. Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz / 5GHz) MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS/ GLONASS, NFC, and USB 3.1 port. It also has stereo speakers with S-Force Front Surround, DSEE HX, and LDAC.

Running on Android 8.0 Oreo operating system out-of-the-box with the company’s own custom interface on top, the smartphone is fuelled by a 3,180mAh battery that also supports Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology.

There’s a Premium edition of the Xperia XZ2 which comes with dual rear cameras but the company has not launched this edition in India. Given the pricing of the standard version, we don’t expect that Sony plans to bring the Premium edition to India.
