The Taiwanese electronics manufacturer has released AOSP-based Android 10 beta updates for the Zenfone Max M1, the Zenfone Lite, and the Zenfone Live L1 and Zenfone Live L2.

All of the aforementioned entry-level phones launched with Android 8.0 Oreo/Android 8.0 Oreo (Go Edition) and it is good to see that ASUS is updating them to Android 10.

Just like in the case of the Zenfone 5, if you intend to sideload these beta updates, you have to backup your data first. The files are over 1.5GB in size and the description says they come with updated security patches. Also, do ensure that you confirm the firmware version your device currently runs before downloading the update.

Today, the phone has gotten a proper announcement with all the missing details included.

The Zenfone Live L1 is an entry-level phone that can best be described as ASUS’ version of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A/Y1 Lite. However, the ASUS has some key advantages over the Redmi.

The Zenfone Live L1 has a 5.5-inch screen but its 1440 x 720 screen resolution which translates to an 18:9 aspect ratio gives it a 5” form factor. So it is smaller and lighter though thicker than the Redmi Note 5A. The screen has glove support and also has a Bluelight filter.

The Zenfone Live L1 comes in two variants – an Android Go version and a regular version. The Android Go version has 1GB RAM and 16GB storage, an 8MP rear camera, and of course, runs Android Oreo (Go edition). The regular model which runs Android Oreo with ZenUI 5 overlay has 2GB/3GB of RAM, 16GB/32GB of storage, and a 13MP rear camera.

The remaining specs are the same. They are both powered by the Snapdragon 425 processor and have 5MP front-facing cameras. Both also use a triple card tray which lets you use 2 SIM cards (LTE on both slots) and also add up to 2TB of extra storage via a MicroSD card.

There is Bluetooth 4.0, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, GPS, FM Radio, a micro USB port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. There is no fingerprint scanner but there is Face Unlock. The battery capacity is 3,000mAh for both models.

Zenfone Live L1 Pricing and Availability

The Zenfone Live L1 comes in four colors – Midnight Black, Space Blue, Shimmer Gold, and Rose Pink. ASUS has partnered with Jingdong Indonesia (JD.id) to sell the phone.

They are running a flash sale for the 2GB + 16GB model which will allow buyers get it for Rp. 1,299,000 (~$92) instead of Rp. 1,399,000 (~$99) between May 21 and May 31.

The 3GB version will sell for Rp. 1,699,000 (~$121). There is no info on the price for the 1GB Android Go variant.
