Smartphone Buyers Guide: Best Value For Money Phones Under 100$ (August Edition)

by androidbrick 12

Buying a daily cheap phone is not that easy anymore as it was a couple years ago. We just had a couple of alternatives, but today, as more Chinese makers come to market and because of the high competition in the smartphone market, there are many more phones to choose from. Today, we will try to help you with the purchase of a super cheap phone. Remember, these are phones under $100 class, and hence you should not expect a lot from them, but again, some might also surprise you in this price range.

There are more than 50 alternatives under 100$ range so I decided to narrow down this list as choosing minimum 2GB of RAM and Quad-core CPU’s. We have 1 exception with 1GB RAM phone, because of its price. All the phones in this list are based on Quad-core MediaTek CPU’s, divided to MTK6580 and MTK6735. Both are capable of serving you as a daily smartphone processor. We have two exceptions in the list when it comes to CPU type, two 64-bit octa-core phones with MTK6592 and MTK6753, Pepsi P1s (yes it’s a smartphone) and Vernee Thor.

So, here are the models which we think are best under $100 price range.

Vernee Thor 4Gthorr

$99.99

Display: 5″ HD On-cell Corning Gorilla Glass 3 screen
CPU: MTK6753 64-bit Octa-Core 1.3GHz
GPU: ARM Mali-T720 MP3 450MHz
System: Android 6.0
RAM + ROM: 3GB RAM + 16GB ROM
Camera: 13.0MP Rear Camera , Front camera 5.0MP

Bluetooth: 4.0
OTG: Yes
SIM Card: Dual SIM dual standby, dual micro SIM cards

3G: WCDMA 900/2100MHz
4G: FDD-LTE 800/1800/2100/2600MHz

Starting with highest price in the list our first phone is Thor from Vernee. High price brings some unique features in this price range with it. First is, this model has the 64 bit octa-core MTK6753 CPU and again the only model with 3GB Ram onboard. Just these two features make Vernee Thor the most powerfull phone on our list. If you are a light gamer and are used to handling multiple apps at the same time, i.e. if you multitasking a lot, with 3GB Ram this model is for you. It has Android 6.0 as operating system, is a 4G LTE capable phone of course. Plus a very attractive design with 80% screen-to-body ratio, very good screen quality with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3 on top, titanium alloy 7.9mm thick body, 140g weight, decent cameras both rear and front. There is also a very quick responsive finger print scanner on the back side. What else could you want from a 99$ phone ? So if 5″ is enough for your daily use, and you have $99 to spend, Vernee Thor should be on top of your list. This phone costs 119$ normaly, but you can get it for 99.99$ with a coupon, for a full detailed review and about the coupon please follow this link : Vernee Thor Review – Simple But Fast. With this specs and price Thor deserves to be Editor’s Choice in 5″ screen class under 100$ list.

Buy Xiaomi Mi5
  • Jh1

When you can pick up an Mi4 or Mi4c for around $120, these phones don’t seem that appealing.

    • androidbrick

Some people are counting every 1$ in their pockets. “There is no accounting for tastes”, so..

      • Jh1

Very fair point. I’m only speaking from my perspective

        • androidbrick

Everybody is right my friend.. Best phone (PC) = the one that can meet our expectation for best price.. We must be clever then the makers most of the time 🙂 Greetings.

    • xploratorul

Mi4c is way more expensive than 120 bucks 🙂

      • Jh1

It can be purchased as cheap as $116 at the moment for the 2gb/16gb version. Check out the kimovil website

  • Karly Johnston

I refuse to spend more than $400 on a phone but to even consider using these as a primary device when the majority of my computing is on mobile makes me cringe. Phones like this are for people who just need a feature phone that can do social media. As a backup device I wouldn’t do any less than a Mi4c.

  • Wolvie

I myself never ever consider to spend money more than $250 for a smartphone. Once you got your own family, you have to start spend less on yourself and keep the most for your family usage.

Based on my personal past experiences, it is better not to buy from those weird china unknown brands unless someone trustworthy already post a review and use it for couple months to prove it is robust and have a descent built quality.

Not to bashing those cheap smartphones, but unfortunately those cheapo grade of china smartphone normally got a tendency to die faster. Buy from reputable china brands like Xiaomi, Meizu, OnePlus ,etc maybe a wiser choice as i assume they have better quality control over their product so lesser problem and probably can use longer compare to those fishy brands. You pay a bit more (normally no more than $30) and you got peace of mind.

Over the time those small china unknown brands could be mature and they can improve their quality control, but who knows when.

    • Adam Nazifi

      Thanks for this wonderful piece

    • androidbrick

No more then 30$, ok, here is the example, Vernee Thor for 99$, Xiaomi Redmi 3 Pro for 169$ ? Can’t find any contender in 5″ with 3GB Ram and fingerprint options, what do you get for extra 70$. This is the idea here. You are right there were many non-quality Chinese brands and phones in the past, they are still learning but evolving and as we wanted to show in this article, game is changing.

  • jimberkas

my amazon subsidized BLU R1 HD for $60 is pretty sweet. very happy with it, even with the amazon ads. but i removed them and installed OEM ROM so its even better now.

  • Mile Tim89

Excellent state employees to 100 dollars. But I know that Uhans A101 for 49.99 can be bought with similar characteristics, a few this top baffled. Would buy HOMTOM HT3 Pro or I will wait for A101 in the new version from 2 GB of a RAM. And 007 without 4G with 1 GB generally as got here?
