by Joe 19

Huawei released the brand new Honor 6X mid-range smartphone at an official event a few hours ago. We have been hearing about the phone for the past few weeks and a recent TENAA listing confirmed its specs as well. But now, everything is officially out, revealing the full details about the product.

Honor 6x 01

The Honor 6X comes with an all metallic built, with 2.5D glass on the front. The corners of the phone are smooth and for its cheap pricing, the phone looks premium. It’s compact with the following dimensions: 150.9 x 72.6 x 8.2mm and weighs 162 grams. The company is offering five different colors for the phone namely gold, rose gold, silver, gray, and navy.

As for the specs, the Honor 6X is powered by the Kirin 655 octa-core chipset clocked at 2.1GHz with Mali-T830 MP2 GPU. This is definitely very good enough for a budget smartphone. The display is of 5.5-inches with 1080p resolution. There are 3GB / 4GB RAM and 32GB / 64GB ROM options available. At the back, the phone features a dual camera setup consisting of one 12MP primary sensor and another 2MP secondary sensor. Up front, there is an 8MP camera. Inside, the phone features a decent 3340mAh battery. As for the software, the device runs on Android 6 Marshmallow with Emotion UI 4.1 on top. Other features include fingerprint sensor at the back, dual SIM dual standby, 4G LTE, WI-Fi n and GPS.

The 3GB + 32GB version starts at just 999 Yuan ($149), 4GB + 32GB at 1299 Yuan ($193) and 4GB + 64GB at 1599 Yuan ($238). The phone will go on sale on October 25 in China. No details about international release available yet.

  • Hello

    It’s Kirin 655 instead of 955! 😉

    • Ionut Johnny

You are dreaming with that price :-))

  • NextHype

Looks very interesting for this price.
    5.5″ FHD + K655 + 3/32GB + Dual Cam + Huawei quality for $149….
This will cripple the sells of Umi Ele & Co, probably even Xiaomi’s.

    • Ionut Johnny

I wonder what function has the 2nd, 2mp camera. Even if the dual camera is a gimmick, definitely worths the money.

      • NextHype

Yup, I was asking myself the same question. Probably depth of field, ’cause i don’t think it can be used for B&W with such a low rez.

Edit: confirmed by a french website, it will be used for bokeh effect

      • balcobomber25

Sounds like it will be similar to the first Axon phone from ZTE which had a similar setup. The second camera was for “depth of field” according to the marketing. In actuality it was mostly marketing.

        • Ionut Johnny

          Got it right 😀
Anyway interesting phone but I already bought Huawei P9 for 300 GBP 🙂
I will have in my possesion these days, I’m super happy 😀 but I am still curious about Xiaomi Note 2 😀

          • balcobomber25

I bought the Honor 8 which is basically the same phone. But I am really curious about LeEco’s launch today in the US and may pick one of those up.

          • Ionut Johnny

Let me know if you do, I was really interested in the Leco Pro 3.

  • Saku

Where to buy this beast? I won’t forgive myself if I miss this! Btw, how is Kirin 655’s performance compared to budget chipsets like SD 650/652 and MTX20?

    • balcobomber25

I haven’t seen much information on the 655 but if it’s anything like the 650 it won’t come anywhere close to either of those chips. It will be more a competitor for the SD617 and Helio P10.

      • Saku

Thanks for the info, mate. That’s pretty logical given its price. I shouldn’t expect a whooping performance coming from a Kirin since they mostly use low-power cores.

        • balcobomber25

That’s not exactly true. The Kirin 955 is actually more powerful than the SD820 and Helio X25. The only edge the 820 has is in the GPU. The Kirin 600 series is typically just a budget/midrange SoC.

          • Saku

Oh, thanks again. I was under the impression that SD are superior to Kirin because it scores higher in benchmark tests.

I’ve never had a Huawei before, so 6x will definitely be my first buy if it becomes available worldwide.

  • A very affordable phone with great specs, this is certainly better than the Redmi 3 and Meizu M3 at that price.

    • Jh1

Surprisingly well priced for Huawei. Now how will the redmi 4 compare. Love the competition

  • Yvweh Blarck Munyaneza

Now i get the reason why the Redmi Pro got a huge price cut.
Am loving the competition around here

I like the design but this dual camera setup is almost entirely gimmick. In the P9/Honor 8 it has some actual benefits, here it’ seems it’s mostly there for a “back of the box” feature. Overall though for $149 you can’t really go wrong. Kirin chips are some of the best overall chips on the market, their optimization is incredible.
