Is this everything they showed on that event ?

  • iris_sl

what is the screen to body ratio?

    • Josef Izchaki

      On the Redmi 5 it’s ~75.9% screen-to-body ratio, and on the Redmi 5 plus it’s ~77.4% screen-to-body ratio

  • lstar4real

Nothing special about this phone….This is not upgrade at all.. its better to go for Meizu note 6 bcus there is no way this phone camera will surpass Meizu n6 … Its obvious Xiaomi is getting SD 625 for free from Qualcomm

    Disappointed

    • Barry Scott

Meizu cameras always seem to be better than xiaomi, especially at the price point

    • Jh1

These aren’t intended to compete with the M6 note (which is a great phone). The upcoming redmi note 5 should compare favorably with it though.

      • Barry Scott

do you think there will be a note 5? maybe its just 5 & 5 Plus now

        • Jh1

The note 5 is supposed to be released next month. Supposedly coming with the SD 630 and SD 636 (though I’m personally only expecting the 630)

          • Barry Scott

im torn on what i think, on 1 hand i dont think there will be a note 5 (Not Yet anyway) because of the deal Xiaomi has with google & the Mi A1, as the Note 5 would be competition for it, & on the other hand i think we might just have the Redmi 5 & 5 Plus, because if you have a 5 Plus why make a note 5 & vice versa as they kinda eliminate the need for each other, in the budget section anyway

          • Franck

Hi Jh1, hope you are well. Now that the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus have been officialized, it comes to me that Xiaomi won’t release the Redmi Note 5. I mean that Xiaomi would have officialized the RN5 at the same time with the release of both Redmi 5 & Redmi 5 Plus. I think that they are going to abandon the naming “Note” for the Redmi line and keep it for Mi series phones. I am deeply convinced that we will see a Pro edition of the Redmi 5 Plus. That being said, I might be wrong. What do you think?

          • Jh1

Hi Franck. Not necessarily. If I recall correctly, the redmi 4 and redmi note 4 releases were separated by a few months. I certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see a “pro” version of at least the redmi 5 plus though. Xiaomi likes to make several versions of the redmi models, formsome reason.

I am still expecting the RN5 though. The redmi note series has been a huge success for xiaomi, and I can’t see them abandoning or even renaming the model. Additionally, the redmi 5/5 plus are specced to compete in the traditional redmi section of the market, not the redmi note section…they are outclassed by both the honor 7x and the meizu M6 note. I’m guessing the RN5 will come with dual cameras, better soc, and hopefully an updated rear design. Hopefully something like a slim bezel 18:9 (though I think it’s kind of a gimmick) mi5x design with a 4000mah battery.

I could definitely be totally mistaken, but that is my best guess at this point.

          • Barry Scott

i said before in another comment, i cant see where the RN5 would fit into the line up when xiaomi already has the Mi 5X/Mi A1, if you look at the price structure of the line up. Redmi 5, Redmi 5 Plus, Mi 5X/A1, i cant see where the note 5 would fit in. also the Mi 5X/A1, Honor 7X & Meizu Note 6 are all on a similar level spec wise so thats that market covered, i think the RN5 is the 5 Plus tbh

          • Franck

Hi Jh1, you are probably right too. Xiaomi have released so many versions of Redmi phones in the past so there is a chance to see a RN5 release in coming weeks. If they release a RN5, they will for sure use SD630 or even the SD626. I hope that you are right. Fingers crossed! Peace

          • Franck

Hi Jh1, hope you are well. I am about to order the Mi Note 3 on Gearbest website at a good price.
The phone is in their EU warehouse they opened recently in France. I know I have already asked you the question before, do you really recommend
Gearbest? Should I ask them to send me a sealed box? Gearbest like Hong Kong Goldway or Ibuygou usually open the boxes to check if something is missing. I am going to pay
with Paypal to avoid any problem in the near future. Yeah I still haven’t paid, I am panicking I have never spent that amount of money for a phone. You gonna think I am crazy!!! Peace

          • Jh1

Hi Franck. I have been satisfied with my purchases from gearbest. They aren’t the fastest, but I have always received what I ordered. Have never request an unopened box, but that might not be a bad idea. They (and many resellers) often put a modified MIUI rom on the phone, so I would recommend flashing a stock rom as soon as you get a chance. Asking for an unopened box may help you receive an official stock rom initially. Best of luck

          • Franck

At first, I wanted to order the phone on Aliexpress. I have contacted the shop Hong Kong Goldway and asked if it was possible to receive an unopened box. They replied me that they open the box to check the condition of the phone and also to make sure that nothing is missing. That being said, they were a bit expensive compared to Gearbest. Moreover, Hong Kong Goldway is only using DHL and the phone is dispatched to England then from there it is sent to France. My major concern is the warranty and on Aliexpress you are dealing with private seller. So if you encounter an issue with the phone, it is going to be challenging to send back the phone to the seller and to get it fixed.

Gearbest is a huge seller so maybe it will be less risky. Thank you for your help!
            Peace!

          • Franck

Is it useful to include Gearbest insurance when you use Paypal for the payment?

          • Jh1

It doesn’t hurt, but I typically just rely on PayPal

          • Josef Izchaki

Absolutely a waste of money! They are responsible for item to get here, i have purchased numerous things and never had an issue.

      • lstar4real

Its not about comparism….. Xiaomi should give us something else to talk about not just about full screen only…I don’t see it as an upgrade….

  • Louis

Xiaomi must realy account for like 90% of the sd625 sales..

  • Muhammad Yasir

    type C ?

    • POINTLESS GUY

      no.

      • Muhammad Yasir

it’s straight out WORTHLESS then … Xiaomi are really stretching and protracting crap beyond reason !

    • willysson

Type C is only a marketing gimmick. Speed of usb port (2.0, 3.0, 3.1) is more important.

      • Muhammad Yasir

        ok … which is the fastest ? 3.0 i presume ?

  • Simion-Florin

I appreciate the 18:9 aspect ratio but the side bezels are not slim and with the roud corners at the top and bottom they look even bigger. The rest of the spec are boring, the same 625, we expected at least the 630, the 450 for HD+ is good.

    • loller

      There is R5note coming.. 1499Yuan for 4/32 and 1699Yuan for 6/64.
Similar to R5plus but sd630/636 + dual cameras and better build.

      • Barry Scott

it would be nice if they do release a Note 5 but im not holding my breath

    • loller

this 18:9 worth only on flagships and premium midrange..on any other phone it is just marketing. The purpose of 18:9 is to eat up upper and lower bezels yet the cheaper ones just get longer and longer.

  • markiz

So redmi plus is the successor of redmi note?

  • Zero

Snapdragon 625? Ok… You lost a client Qualcomm, time to move to Leeco for a while I guess.

    • Josef Izchaki

You realize LeEco is bankrupt, right….

      • Zero

I have some phones from them with Lineage, and yeah, I will buy the ones with the community support.

  • Josef Izchaki

Well fuck it, the Huawei Honor 7X is so much better then this! And this is coming from an owner of the mi A1 whi had the Redmi Note 4 and previously the Redmi Note 3. Both my children have the Redmi note 4 as well. But same processor, thick bezels and MIUI, i’ll take the Huawei which looks more elegant, has thinner bezels and at 3340 mAh still has an amazing battery life. And again the top and bottom plastic back?!?!
