Xiaomi had launched the Redmi 5 and the Redmi 5 Plus in December 2017. Currently, these smartphones are exclusively available in China. A latest tweet by Xiaomi Product PR, Clinton Jeff indicates that India may receive a new device next month. It is speculated that the Redmi 5 Plus may debut as Redmi Note 5 in the country.

The Redmi Note 4 that had launched in January last year is one of the bestselling phones from the company. Hence, Xiaomi fans in India are eagerly waiting for the arrival of Redmi Note 5. However, the company is unusually silent at the start of this year. The tweet from Jeff is just an indication that a new device possibly arriving in February. He could be hinting the launch of Redmi 5 Plus in India or the global unveiling of Xiaomi Mi 7 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 event that will be held at the end of next month.

Xiaomi has not launched the Redmi Note 5 in China yet. In the previous month, a Super Moderator with MIUI Forum had stated that the Chinese manufacturer has dropped the Redmi Note branding as the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus budget smartphones were launched with full screen design.

The Redmi Note brand is highly popular in India. In just 45 days after the launch of Redmi Note 4 in India, the company was able to reach 1 million sales. It managed to sell 5 units of Note 4 in the country. Hence, it is speculated that Xiaomi may launch the Redmi Note 5 in India in the coming month. Xiaomi has already launched some devices with different names in India. For instance, the Redmi Note 5A and Note 5A Prime have respectively arrived in India as Redmi Y1 Lite and Redmi Y1. Hence, there is a possibility that Redmi Note 5 that is speculated to debut in the next month could be the rebranded Redmi 5 Plus.
