HomTom, a smartphone manufacturer from China has confirmed to the media that it will be soon selling its smartphones in India. The company will focus on mid-range segment in the country. It has revealed that it will begin by selling five smartphones with a starting price of Rs. 8,000 (~$119).
HOMTOM is known for making waterproof and low-end smartphones. Since its establishment in 2013 in China, the company has expanded to more than 200 countries in South Asia, Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America and South America, claimed HOMTOM CEO Gary Zhang. However, he neither commented on the names of the HOMTOM phones that will be made available in India, nor reveal any details on the launch timings.
The company has been offering ODM services to various smartphone firms. As an R&D company, it holds over 100 patents across the globe. Since India is the next big market after China for smartphones, the company is aiming to enter the country to compete with other brands in the mid-range segment, added Zhang. HOMTOM will be manufacturing its devices in India to endorse the “Make in India” program.
