The OPPO R9s was released back in October 2016 which means it is over 2 years old already. When it was announced it ran Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. OPPO has begun rolling out a new update that not only upgrades the Android version but also gives it a software boost and lots of new features.

The update is rolling out as ColorOS 5.2.1 and the changelog is pretty long and filled with interesting features.

First, OPPO R9s users will get an upgrade from Android 6.0 Marshmallow to Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Yes, Nougat is outdated but it is better than being stuck on Marshmallow. Some of the new features Android Nougat brings include split-screen multitasking, app shortcuts, and data saver feature.

The update also brings OPPO’s Hyper Boost technology to the R9s. Hyper Boost is a software acceleration engine similar to Huawei/Honor’s GPU Turbo technology. With Hyper Boost, supported apps and games will load faster and perform better. It also improves system performance, so your Snapdragon 625-powered OPPO R9s should be faster.

Other features the update brings include Face Unlock, an AI Assistant, smart sidebar, screen recording, restart function and application quick freeze. It is safe to say your phone should feel brand new with all the new features.
